Report: Bombing suspect trained with Gitmo detainees

A new report says two leaders of the Yemen terror cell that allegedly trained the Christmas Day bombing suspect were released from Guantanamo Bay prison in 2007. They are believed to have gone through a highly-scrutinized Saudi program that claims to rehabilitate former terrorists.

Christopher Boucek with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace joined us on Tuesday's American Morning to discuss if rehabilitation can work for former Guantanamo detainees.

    STOP GLORIFYING THIS GUY!!!!!!

Just like the school shootings, this will get out of hand. We had very little school shootings until CNN and other news agencies glorified these individuals. Then it was like wildfire; school shootings left and right. Why did this happen? YOU GLORIFIED THE SHOOTERS!

I am sick of everyone including CNN posting this guy life all over the news. News is a balance and that balance is informing the public of these types of situations. As a world we now know to bum-rush a guy when something like this happens.

However when you glorify these extremists, you inadvertently become an “advertising” agency for all future terrorists! We do not care about his life, his friends, his parents, his family, etc. Can CNN just report the news for once?

It's funny how things work, We held a president accountable when he cheated on his wife. By the way was NON OF OUR BUSINESS. "Had nothing to do with running the Country". We blamed our current President for something that he had no control over." But at least acted quickly and took action. Now who said there was weapons of mass destruction Irack? " I ment to spell it that way" Why was the Gas prices up to $5 and $6 dollars a gallon? Remind me again; who was accountable for that?

It is not surprising that they would come from Gitmo, Maybe people will wake up and let the CIA and other Government agencies do their job and stop crying about how these terrorist are treated as they are detained. Did we not see the Video of Eugene Armstrong?

Bullets don't cost that much! We are letting them go, and they are planning more attacks. WTF?

Were the prisoners held without charge at Gitmo radicalized there?? People were paid to "turn in" socalled terrorists. How many were completely innocent and jailed for years with little hope for release? What would that do to someone's attitude towards America??

Go Angie, you are 100% right. The Republicans are not interested in doing anything to help the people in this country. The only thing they are interested in is trying to make Obama look bad in order to get re-elected. The next thing they will say is that this whole thing is Obama's fault because he was not the one on the plane jump on the bomber.

These people have not been "radicalized".

Could the media please stop using this ridiculous term?

No one "did this" to them.

They are choosing to follow the teachings of Mohammed, a man who murdered thousands that he considered to be "infidels"

Look Angie no one here should blame anyone except the Islamic extremists! GItmo should not be closed and there should be more detainee camps like gitmo! These people think that they are doing God a favor it is written in the Holy Bible! They will not stop their hateful ideology until they die and become what they think is a martyr! A martyr is a person who gives his life for another not a killer of people they hate!
Obama should yell out this fact to the world along with the knowledge he has of his savior to these extremists! Let these terrorists know that the Messiah has already risen and will rise again to take his flock from these killers and haters of Jesus Christ and his ways!

How is it that I AM a poor man, yet I AM My Father's Son? I AM poor because of the ignorance of men, because they are ignorant of God. Yet, on Christmas Day an attempted attack on an Northwest airline was stopped. Do you think the Son of God would allow such a thing to happen on the day that mankind celebrates Christ Holy Day?

Did I not write that I will not permit such an attack on My land again? Cheney and the republicans thought otherwise, but they have no authority upon this Earth over life and death. But, I do.

There is nothing on this Earth that will stop the Son of God from claiming His Kingdom.

Peace to you and your families in the New Year, the Year of the Priest.

Angie, according to this CNN article:

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/12/26/airline.attack/index.html

"the bomber's father warned the US Embassy "a few weeks ago". Other articles state November 19 as the date that the father reported his son's issues to the US Embassy."

    No mention of 2008 anywhere....

    and from MSNBC:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34620122/ns/us_news-security/

"The suspect, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, was on one advisory list, but never made it onto more restrictive lists that would have caught the attention of U.S. counterterrorist screeners, despite his father's warnings to U.S. Embassy officials in Nigeria last month. Those warnings also did not result in the revocation of Abdulmutallab's U.S. visa."

Go ahead and keep your head in the sand and blame Bush / Cheney for everything.

What's up with your use of the phrase, "the American citizens of USA"? As opposed to the Mexican or Canadian citizens of the USA?

Stop the hateful ranting – you're making a fool of yourself.

LMAO–In defense of the rehabilitated terrorists: 1.) The Christmas day attempted bombing was a failure; 2.) The rookie terrorist learned that when you play with fire, you do get burned; 3.) Angie needs to do a reality check. Just because there weren't stories about foiled terror plots in the news like the Democrats like to see them, it has no bearing on the FACTS that the Republicans were effectively foiling terrorist plots. The fact that terrorists get smarter is a function of how many times they've already been stupid in their planning. If the terrorists got smarter over the years of the Bush administration, they must have been foiled in their stupidity quite frequently. I really don't care for Democrats, Republicans, or Libertarians. However, what I find most disconcerting are people who are stubbornly uninformed.

CNN reports that the father recently reported to the embassy.
The father had contacted the embassy in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, and various other security agencies earlier than the timeline provided by the administration official. The family source said Mutallab went to those agencies about three months ago. Why didn't Hillary's state department cancel his passport immediately or when they passed on the info to security, why didn't they also tell them he had a passport?

I sent an e mail this a m telling friends to watch for the media to blame Conservatives for the plane bomb and Roberts along with others at CNN proved my point–pointing to the hold Demint put on TSA –The hold overs are much more expierienced so we are safer because this union guy who has had problems at his other positions. This mornings program was notable for not giving all relevant information. But CNN got rid of Dobbs because they don't want their anchors advocating–ha ha who bought that?

Why is it that whenever we talk about terror training CNN always shows this same tired footage of a masked terrorist demonstrating his inability to properly execute a jump crescent kick? Note his near loss of balance at the end of the kick and the way that he drops his hands while kicking. You can go to any Tae Kwon Do school in the U. S. or Korea and find green belts that can do better.

Two of the masterminds behind the failed Christmas attack were released in 2007 from Guatanimo Prison.
So CNN should stop blaming Obama.
The Bomber's father warned the US Embassy a year ago in November, that is November 2008. Bush was President, Cheney was VP.
So CNN should stop blaming Obama.
Our security was Not so great duing the good old days of Bush and Cheney after all
The Republicans Security Risk decisions of the last 8 years are still raising Havoc against us, the American citizens of USA.
The way to reverse all the damage caused by the Republican party is:
    Obama 2012 – 2nd term
It will take even longer to undue the Republican Party's mess.
