AZ rancher murder may have been turning point

(CNN) – President Obama will deliver a speech today making his case for comprehensive immigration reform. The federal government is feeling the heat now that states like Arizona are acting on their own to deal with illegal immigration. The murder of an Arizona rancher earlier this year by a suspected illegal immigrant may have been a turning point in the debate. Our Casey Wian has the report.

It's sad that in sluggish economies, people begin finger-pointing. Illegal immigration did not just become a problem in the last 18 months, it has been a problem for decades. Republicans held majority in ALL of the branches of gov't, yet did nothing. Immigration has become their new red herring, replacing abortion and gay rights for this election cycle. Revving up their base, they ignore the fact that crime along the AZ border, as well as throughout the state, is LOWER!

The rancher's murder is still not solved, and it has never been confirmed that his killer was an illegal immigrant. Republicans know that if you repeat ANYTHING often enough, many people will accept it as fact.

Obama's speech on immigration was the same old rhetoric putting the blame on people who hire illegals and the fact our boorders are too vast to protect. This is defeatist talk to me! Election time is coming soon and he wants to retain the Latino vote.
I'm mad as Hell and I won't stand for it. Finish the wall, increase the number of drones, and bring home the Army Reserves to do this job. Then start sending the ones home we know are a sure thing, knowing it will be almost impossible to come back.

Re: Immigration – John- here's what is happening in Texas – the illegal immigrants come here and immediately have children, making their children US citizens which I think they believe will protect them from being deported. Here in Texas, everything is catered to the Hispanic people, everyone has to speak Spanish here to get a job, we cater to rather than make them learn our language with providing Spanish speaking people. These people are also using our health care facilities making it impossible to get into a free clinic because their documents are accepted here. The population is growing with mostly Hispanic people and mainly because we cater to them. If we had all government agencies speak only English the people would not feel so comfortable and they would be forced to learn English, however, we make it easy for them to come to our country . Supposedly this is an English speaking nation, well, you wouldn't know it here in the Houston Texas area, as one is penalized if they apply for a job and don't know Spanish! Hello – isn't there something wrong about that? I wonder how many of our politicans that are Hispanic had parents that came here illegally – has anyone ever checked. I understand what Arizona is going through as the same is true here in Texas – one has to live here to realize the population is becoming more Hispanic than any other race because of the facts above! Wish you would read this, perhaps some of the politicans that are against reform would realize what we who live in border States are having to face!

Bingo – it is all politics – not just on the right but on the left. The more of these (currently) illegals that stay and suck on the govt teet and vote for the left, the better chance they have of staying in power. Why have a hopefully large voting block deported?

President Obama has placed 2x the number of border agents patrolling America's border with Mexico than Bush jr.

President Obama has deported far more illegal immigrants back to Mexico in 1 1/2 years in office than Bush jr. during his entire 8 year reign.

What Grumpy Old Republican Arizona Senator John McCain spews about guarding the border is empty political rhetoric when compared to his own party's efforts under a Republican president.

The Republican party and their corrupt lawmakers are simply condemning a Black Democratic President regardless of the facts, they simply invent them as the facts nearly always differ from their empty rhetoric.

Thankfully during the next 10 years, Hispanics will be a very large and growing voting block who will help Democratic party's further show the few remaining Republican purists the exit door. Within 15 years, I predict Hispanics will largely own Arizona's political offices with Hispanic incumbents and Hispanic candidates.

This may not pertain to the murder at the header but it does have to do with illegal immigrants. I was a retail Asset Protection Manager at a Kmart in a fairly large Florida town and one evening I caught a young spanish woman attempting to shoplift $50.00 worth of clothing.
I followed normal procedures and detained her as she left the store with the items. At the time the company policy was to call the police and have anyone stealing more than $20.00 worth of merchandise arrested. I called the local police and informed them of the situation and also informed them that the young lady new enough english to tell me that she was a illegal immigrant.
When the police officer and his backup arrived at the store and discovered that the young woman was an illegal immigrant they told me that they were not going to place her under arrest because it would take INS up to 6 hours to get at the police station and take her into custody and that if they arrested her they would have to physically watch her until INS arrived, and they stated to me that they were not going to do that.
