Question of the Day: How do you stay cool when you're not in the air conditioning?

(CNN) - A heat wave blamed for as many as two dozen deaths settled over portions of the East Coast this week as the National Weather Service issued an extreme heat warning for much of the Mid-Atlantic, saying Friday would be the hottest day in the region.

The highest heat index values - how hot it feels - could reach 115 degrees in some locations, the weather service said.

Who is responsible? I am, you are, it does not matter whether you are a (D) or a (R). The preamble of the Constitution begins, We the people.....So, to answer your question directly, We the people are responsible.

I work outside for my job. I cool down with ice packs and a spray bottle of ice water. Keep a cooler of ice handy. A smalll hand towel dipped in cold water with a few drops of peppermint oil so soothing. Just the fragrance is refreshing. The new light fabrics are also a must. No cotton in this heat.

Run your shirt under cold water until it's soaked. Wring it out, and put it on wet.

When we golf, we use a half gallon Igloo cooler half full of ice and water with a spritz of Seabreeze which gives an extra cooling effect on the skin. Keep a towel soaking in it–best Arkansas solution we've found!

You have to pay attention to what you wear. When I go out during the day, it's usually in a Borat thong and a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor hi-tops. Don't forget the sunscreen!!

Take the dogs swimming. They inevitably choose to stand as close as possible before shaking the water off.
