What’s on Tap – Wednesday March 25, 2009
The Best Political Team is up early, breaking down the president’s big sell in prime time. Some of his biggest supporters and toughest critics will face off, from James Carville to Former Presidential Candidate Fred Thompson.
Plus – a special adviser to the U.N. Secretary General, says President Obama’s new bank bailout plan is bogus.
After a distasteful joke on Leno and some awkward laughter on “60 minutes”, a lot was riding on this appearance. There were tense moments. CNN Contributor Bill Bennett said the president walked into a “murderer’s row” in the White House East Room, but the president was able to stay on message, focusing on the budget and the economy.
We want to know if he answered your questions. Call 877-MYAMFIX with your reaction. We’re also asking a few recently unemployed workers about their sacrifices, and whether President Obama made them feel better about their future. The President said the country is moving in the right direction. Let us know what do you think.

I THINK IT IS AWFULLY FUNNY THAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY THE AGREED WITH 95% OF THE WORST PRESIDENT TO DATE, CAN JUSTIFY DISAGREEING WITH ANYTHING THIS PRESIDENT IS TRYING TO DO. EVERYTHING THAT HE HAS PROPOSED AND IMPLIMENTED HAS WORKED OR IS SHOWING SIGNS OF WORKING. THE SAD PART IS THAT THEY (THE REP) WILL RATHER SEE THIS COUNTRY FAIL (AS THEY SAY SO OFTEN) THAN TO SEE THIS PRESIDENT SUCCEED. IF I WAS PRESIDENT OBAMA I WOULD NOT ALLOW THEM TO DETER MY AGENDA BECAUSE IT WAS THEIR FAILED POLICIES THAT GOT US HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. NOW THEY HAVE A PLAN AFTER NOT DOING ANYTHING FOR 8 YEARS UNDER BUSH . YEAH GET REAL.
re: Fred Thompson
Why do you continue to allow the Republicans to shape all the public debate???
If we want to discuss the budget, get some economists! This is absurd to ask the opposition party to give its opinion of the administration, they are against him for purely ideological reasons.
What was even more deplorable is having Thompson comment on another Republican's comments! Of course he agreed.
We seem to want a quick fix, and expect the President to do it right now. The economy will take time to come back ,it didn't get to this big mess overnight. I am very please with what the President is trying to do. All those that are complaining don't have a better idea just saying that this will not work or this will make things worst. Everyone jump in about AIG to get their point across and some public time. As to what the President is going to ask the American people to sacrifice ( what about congress) did they not vote to give themself a pay raise. When is the goverment going to make a sacrifice, for the good of the country
Ron Christie is a 100% company man
I just dont like that guy Ron Christie, you want hear him say nothing nice at all about the Prez.
It seems to me that our economy as well as the war in Iraq are as they are because the American people did not question enough. They had faith in the Government and "Bush" policies. NOT questioning what takes place or is publicized is exactly what this country does not need. The only way to keep the Government honest is to question these policies. In addition, just because someone has been elected to hold a particular position within the government, does not necessarily mean they are competent or have the knowledge to dictate policy. I again refer to Bush as proof. Not questioning is the same as apathy. I do not trust this government for anything. I have no reason to for the past 8 years and doubt this administration will change the corruption within the ranks of our federal government any more than during the Bush years. To have faith and patience got us to where we are now.
I agree with Jen,
I have my differences with the President on 2nd Amendment rights/gun control and with his stand on providng social services to illegal immigrants with our tax dollars, but if no one was gripping about the economic situation over the last eight years, then why now?
He needs to take a hard look at his waste cutting policies too.You can't cut programs to military veterans and leave wastefully bi-lingual programs in effect. People that can't speak English need to learn or have a friend help them out, Times are hard for Americans without giving money away on frivilous programs.
I saw several reporters asking silly and accusatory questions. Who cares why it took Pesident 2 days to express his feelings about the bonuses? He has SO much to deal with he can't respond immediately to any situation! And the guy asking what the president was going to ask the American people to sacrifice !?!? What a rat!!! And he is one of us!! What an ill-prepared and irrelavant reporter! NOTHING is going to have any affect on the economy immediately so we need tro become more patience and have faith in the process. Quit fighting about it and work together!
