Pretty well if you just look at the polls. His popularity is north of 60%, and that should be enough to drown out all but the most vocal boo birds.
But following the President's press conference Tuesday night an undercurrent of dissatisfaction was evident. The Presidential "Honeymoon Clock" is ticking.
CNN analyst Alex Castallanos, who supports Republicans, says the President's impatience at the news conference over a question about AIG is a sign that Mr. Obama himself is on the defensive about his politics. That question came from CNN's Ed Henry, and had to do with why it took Obama so long to react to the AIG bonuses. "Because," the President said, "I like to know what I'm talking about before I speak."
The next morning, CNN's "American Morning" received mostly favorable calls about the President's press conference, but once again there were doubters. Gloria from Georgia said, "as I watched the Presidential address I want to know when and where can we the people expect some changes." Another said, "He is putting fiction on the plate and not really solving the problems."
And several Senate Democrats who call themselves moderates, sent a letter to the Senate Budget Committee chairman expressing concerns about Mr. Obama's 3.6 trillion dollar budget. They wrote, "the economy is even worse than it was when the President released his budget a month ago."
"I think he's not giving (Democrats) any cover," says Emory University Professor Drew Westin, an Obama supporter. "He's not giving them a way to go back home and say, look at what these other guys did. We're just cleaning up the mess."
"People wonder," says CNN Political Analyst Bill Schneider, "how long this is going to take to work. They are patient but they wonder when are we going to see some indication that things are going to go up?"
Westin says Mr. Obama can fix his problems by acting a little less like Lincoln and a little more like Franklin Roosevelt. Westin says FDR attacked his critics from the moment he took office, "he basically said I welcome your attacks because you guys are the guys that messed things up. Bring it on."

RESPECT....We should demand respect for our president. He should not have to endure being on the front cover of every disgusting magazine in his bathing shorts, or being the latest CHi-Chia grass growing head, or degraded for every word he utters. I am sick and tired of having the media tell me what he meant when he said........I have ears and eyes, can I form my own opinion? He has to ponder now on every word that comes out of his mouth because he knows someone is going to construe it differently. He has taken the "Bull by the Horns" and touched on so many different problems. He has reached out to other countries by traveling and purveying a friendly, serious, outreaching persona, and is criticized for being on the road and gone too much. He could have sat around the big conference table and argued with dems and reps, and then the media and citizens would have said "What is he doing, why isn't he doing what he promised." Well he is doing what we all voted him in to do.
President Obama is an educated, intelligent, motivated leader. He deserves RESPECT. The country should remember "Speak softly and carry a big stick" (T. Roosevelt) and “ If you don't have something nice to say, don't say nothin at all” (Thumper’s parents.)
Take into consideration that all the remarks and condemnations expressed and expressed and expressed by the media, are being hashed over and over and over by anyone on the street that they interview, news commentators, any Tom, Dick or Harry who gets TV or Radio time. What makes these people qualified to grade or degrade our President Obama of the United States of America?
Sincerely, Terry L. Hatfield ( a Baby Boomer)
I believe that Obama is naive about running the presidency. He doesn't seem to know what is happening and he is letting his cabinet run the show because he does not know how.
I think the President is doing great for a short time in office. I wish the media would stop degrading him and let hime do what is was voted into office to do. I think the media does do a good job for certain issues but they need to respect the President and what he is trying to do for the country and its people.
I agree with he previous comments, It will take time, Besides the last Bush, Reagan and Bush1 quadrupled the national debt. That is also part of this long road of financial irresponsiblity this country has been on. Huge amounts of money were spent on strategic weapons systems as The Soviet Union fell apart and went broke.. These dollars are gone and the systems they paid for will become useless.
Now is the time to go foward to smarter forign policy and energy independence. The money saved by doing this will pay for health care and education as well as mass transportation for the large cities.
The Republican military industrial complex has held this country back long enough.
Thank you, Greg Hamby
I am personally sick and tired of all of the disapproval of a man who WE elected to correct all of the mistakes that others made. Everyone needs to be patient and let people do their jobs. I know that it is hard to be optimistic in times like this however that is the only way that we can get through this mess. Have you noticed how whenever there is a poll or some opposition in any idea reflects the markets? We will never see any progress unless we all work together and put this broken country back together again. Please be patient I am begging every American, just be patient because things will improve just watch the markets. Also, this man has been very respectful of his criticism since day 1, if he can be positive carrying this weight then so can we.
It takes time to fix the economy. We have to be patient. If we raised hell about how Bush was destroying the country when he was in, this country would not be in the fix it's in now. Bush let everything get in a state where it's going to take time to bring the country back again. The ones that are complaining need to point the finger at themselves for not speaking up when things was going sour when Bush was in.
Have the Obamas even gotten unpacked yet?
What's it been 65 days? Lets give him at least till 4th of July before we get impatient with his policies. Look at all the time we gave Bush. He still never even come close to getting it right.
After all it was nine months before we started picking on Octamom for her bad judgment. Let Obama do his thing. If in 2012 we don't think he's "got it" Then we can elect someone else. Or sit in a hole and see if the Mayans were right.
I have my fingers crossed.
