Here are the big stories we’re following for you this morning:
- General Motors’ CEO is out effective immediately. The government says he has to go and is putting G.M. and Chrysler on the clock as part of a new bailout deal. The president will talk about his new deadline for the auto industry at 11am eastern time. Do you want more of your money going to Detroit? Let us know at 877-MYAMFIX.
- Global Blame Game – Thousands protesting in London, demanding jobs and justice, ahead of President Obama's arrival for the G20 economic summit. It’s a much different Europe than he remembers from the campaign trail. His visit comes less than a week after the current E.U. President called his rescue plans a "way to hell."
- North Korea Ready to Launch – Developing now: There are new pictures of what the U.S. claims is a North Korean missile on the launch pad. The defense secretary says there’s little doubt that it’s meant to advance the country’s military capability. Our navy is at the ready to shoot it down... if it comes to that.
- Madonna’s Adoption Dispute – Madonna in the African nation of Malawi to adopt a new four-year-old daughter, but one child advocacy group is slamming her for that. Where is the child better off? We take a hard look at the facts of life in the little girl’s homeland.
Madonna will just get her check book out and BUY another child. She disgusts me.
Why has CNN sent a news reporter to Malawi to follow Madonna around? Since when is a celebs parenthood status a serious news story requiring that type of manpower commitment? I was so appalled I turned off the TV.
The reason the car makers should be replacing their presidents and boards is that they knew the industry was failing way back in 2000. I should know, I was hired in 1999 and my position was created because the car industry had money to burn. Don't blame me, but in a year the industry started plummeting downward, the "autogroup" I worked for, (that owned Ford, Pontiac, Jeep, Volvo, VW, Saab, Hummer, and Chevy stores), started consolidating jobs and restricting hiring. It got so bad that my job was eliminated in 2004. This current situation wasn't a "surprise" to the "Big 3" - they knew of the problem and couldn't figure out the solution for the past 9 years!
The era of "too big to fail" is obviously over. The government has been extremely lax in their responsibility in protecting Americans from monopolies in every area of business. From the “Big Three” to banking and even telecommunications. There are 13 brands listed on the GM website, Chrysler only lists three, Ford lists four. It’s time to break apart these giants and let the brands sink or swim on their own.(remember Bell?) The same could be said for AIG and the like. The Fed needs to shut off the printing press.!!!
Instead of the bailout for the "big 3".
Why not have a "billion dollar X prize"?
Put all the bailout money into the company, big 3 or other. That manufactures the most cost effective, fuel efficient green auto.
See who saves the planet then.
The X prize format has worked in the past. It would make a good reality show.
