American Morning viewers overwhelmingly scolded Congress for spending time on the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) playoff issues:
- “I can't believe that Congress is actually wasting time whining about college football. Congress is fiddling while Wall Street and Main Street burn. Fix the economy, stupid!”
Others thought it was a good idea:
- “Just as an FYI, Theodore Roosevelt helped to set up the NCAA back in 1905 or 1906 with the intention of making football safer for college kids, so there is a bit of precedent with a President "meddling" with college football.”

- Bob – The President and the members of Congress could better serve the citizens of this country by, perhaps, devoting this time to reading their own legislation prior to voting or signing off on it. They might avoid such debacles as the AIG bonuses.
- Kathy – Why should a computer/mathematical formula choose a winner in a physical competition? Makes no sense at all…. and yes, congress should weigh in. There is more to “American Life” than the economy, healthcare, energy, and education. They have probably accomplished more, worked harder in 70 days then most congress’s do in the first year – get off their case yeesh!
- Jose – I am not a true fan of the BCS especially after last year when my team Texas did not go to the BCS Championship game, despite winning over Oklahoma. However this is truly ridiculous to know that our country is going down a very long recession and congress is spending time with this stuff. Apparently this shows how far apart the government really is with its citizens. No one is going to care if NCAA football gets a playoff, when we are losing homes, jobs, and our financial security. Mr. Government where is your priorities?
- Neil – I don’t think that the Congress will burn the midnight oil stressing out over this issue and it will not be a high priority. However, as a college football fanatic, I am glad that they are at least trying to step in and address that there is a problem with the current BCS method.
- Arthur – ABSOLUTELY! The school Presidents would like to keep it the way it is and it isn't, and hasn't worked...time for a CHANGE!
- Torsten – Why does it take our Government to make this call?! MORE GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE ANSWER! They are in enough of our everyday business much less our recreational time! Wheather the BSC as it is today or changing to a playoff, lets get this country turned around FIRST and leave the small stuff to us! They were not elected to handle this BCS issue eventhough I want to see a playoff!
- Eric – yes. the ncaa has run amok with exploiting these games in order to maximize ad revenue. the essence of college sports is not commercial, and it should be kept in check.

- horsefly1013@amFIX No. Bowls should remain as they are, with what little tradition is left. Congress wastes to much time now.
