    To all,

There is a vast number of people who have seen and believe in UFO's. If we're so narrow minded as to think that we're the only intelligent living creatures in our enormous universe then we are alot more ignorant than a hairy monkey!

The governments and the church treat society as kids by thinking that we could not handle the idea that other being also exist in our Universe. The reality is that we, as people, and our planet would benefit greatly by having our Goverments give us all the evidence about UFO's.

The reason is: we have, in general, a glass ceiling of understanding and learning that we can not surpass simply because we lack the evidential support from our Government! If we were told, yes, UFO's do exist and here it is, BOOM! People would break out of their thinking boxes and begin to realize things they would otherwise have thought was impossible! That goes for technology, sociology and many other things that are unthinkable now. Let me know what you think

I used to work for Area 51 base. It's just a place where they test secret weapons and aircraft. the origins of it was from a person trying to communicate with estraterrestials. I was never allowed in the top secret areas though. I was a janitor.

Garrett is absolutely right. There is thousands of stars in our own galaxy and millions of galaxies. There is no saying that in these few TRILLION stars with dozens of planets per star that not one of these planets can't support life. Even so, there is no reason for the government to hide what they know that citizens of the US are curious about. I just want to know what Area 51 is.

I think your right, Terry. But I believe that congress should release UFO files. Im trying to do a report in school about intergalactic aliens but there is absolutely nothing on the internet that I've found yet. I mean, research is impossible. You type in anything like UFOs, Mayan computer, crop circles, you get all this bogus junk. that's how I came across this website the way. William, I don't think that the poing of Mark's theory was to disprove religion. It is only a theory. Even if it did turn out to be true doesn't mean that religion is still not true. Maybe god did make the organisms.

Thank you CNN for having the courage to report this. I have tv's all over my school and over 1000 students literally stood still in awe as this was reported. Thank you for the great journalism coverage.

Mark, that is A VERY INTERESTING theory. It would single handedly disprove all notions of religion. I would love to learn about more research about tihs theory. IT actually seems somewhat viable.

People who believe in evolution generally claim that life on Earth began with a single-celled organism. They maintain that this is the conclusion that science has led to. The scientists that study the formation of the Earth, astronomers and geologists, have concluded that Earth was impacted by numerous objects during its formation. Among these objects were an array of comets, which are composed of dust, rock fragments, and ice. Scientists have determined that ice, in its liquid form, is necessary to the existence of all life on Earth. However, we have not reached a conclusion to the question of how the single-celled organism ended up on Earth. Using inductive reasoning, could we infer from the data that life on Earth originated when it was struck by an already-inhabited comet? Could science possibly lead us to conclude that extraterrestrial life (even if only microbial) existed before life on Earth?

For Christ sake you Yanks should get a grip. There are no UFOs in the sense of visitors from outer space. Just think about it for a minute – given the time space continuum and the unbelievable expansiveness of the universe – all Einstein's relativity stuff, we should have been visited time and time again, by all manner of being, but there is no evidence of a visit from anything – only meteors and so on. Not to say it wont happen but it definitely hasn't happened yet. And also security or airforce personnel does not necessarily imply valid and reliable reporting. Actually CNN is quite right to play the x files tune because that astronaut fellow and his buddies are whistling dixie and you drones are following oh so blindly. The answer to this latest 'mystery' is in you own backyard in your politics. Thats what we see from the outside anyway

I agree with Anna Jesse when she mentions the fact that we are one small solar system in a huge galaxy. I do believe in existence of ET's. Maybe we are some sort of an experiment and they observe us as microbes in a petri-dish, checking on what we are up to now and then and logging it into their data banks. I am not sure whether they would be un/friendly though or perhaps there are both kinds. It would certainly be exciting for UFO enthusiasts all over the world to be able to (a) have confirmation from the government regarding the existence of UFO's and (b) to have an idea what ET's look like....my guess would be that they don't resemble us as a species.

Perhaps with more experience, Jim will be able to do a more serious piece on this issue, instead of confusing the subject with coverage of hoaxers while ignoring Dr. Leir’s description of “implants” removed from separate individuals but unable to be visually told apart, and then analyzed to have characteristics like carbon nanotubes- which don’t occur in nature. Such points are worthy of note, and would actually expand the public’s understanding of this fascinating subject.

Man come on! Release the data! People can handle it. Whats the big deal. "US will either lead the disclosure or follow."

In the summer of 1978, we noticed something hovering in the sky, with large colored lights blinking in sequence from one end to the other. The light panels were square. It just hovered there, silently...no noise at all. Suddenly, it shot to another area of the sky...no acceleration, instant incredible speed...and stopped on a dime, without slowing. It hovered there for some time, then repeated the instant acceleration and stop and hovered in another spot. The pattern was repeated in the form of a square. This was definitely not a weather balloon carried on a breeze and I never saw a weather balloon with colored lights. Our group watched in amazement and wonder. It disappeared by shooting straight up until it blended with the night sky and blinked out. My husband is an engineer, and this thing defied the laws a physics as we know them. The maneuvers were definitely beyond what was possible for that time, to say nothing of limitations that still exist. The problem is that most people aren't skywatchers, or I'm sure there would be more reports available. It's time to reveal the truth about what the government knows. We are one small solar system, in one galaxy, in a universe that holds systems much older than ours. If our technology has advanced so much in the last 100 years, imagine what is possible in places that existed well before our solar system was formed.

Yes I think our government should join the rest of the world and bring about full disclosure. I have seen several UFO's on multiple nights in Washington state with 50+ people standing there as well.My only concern about full disclosure on matters concerning UFO's and such is that it might be used as a distraction for other things that our government may or may not be doing that they would prefer us not to notice or question. Humanity is not stupid. Stop treating us as if we are.

We are an intelligent lot so why keep secretes. Everyone has a right to know if other life exists in the midst of us. With this knowledge fear will disappear. I admire Edgar Mitchell for coming forward with the truth as he knows it.

I am pleased to see the issue of estraterrestial civililizations being brought up on the CNN news media. I was appalled at how the news anchors this am "made fun of beam me up and beams of light, etc". I am a 70 year old quite educated woman whohas had experiences with ET's since the 1940's. I am aware of and have met several of UFO "experts" across decades. I keepquiet and observe. Edgar Mitchaell whose interview is being shown now...was an astronaut who experienced a deep connection to all life and establisehed IONS...I feel you are denigrating him and others....do not do that...I do hope Obama will open the files as President Carter was going to. Somebody and smebodies have said something. I have been abord a ship for a conference in 1981 as have many others. We are not alone. We have the oportunity to work together to save our planet. CNN cool your heels...quit making fun subtlely of the UFO phonemna. Thanks.

I do believe that there is proof of ufo's & aliens. I have seen lights in the sky & no sound. The government has I believe info that should be sheared with we the people. Thank you Mike

President Obama should not be allowed to open any such "UFO files" at any time, due to the dangers involved with such "contact" if and when that occurs. by reading and analyzing hundreds of books on the subject concerning abductees, their "agenda is deceptive"

We have the right to know what is going on in our cities, states, country, the world, and the universe...... secret subjects always turn out to become the most troublesome and dangerous.

the UFO agenda is a misinformation campaign desgined to detract attention from the real source of sightings: the U.S. air force. as long as the public thinks that only aliens could possibly have the technology to build UFOs, they will only use them in testing against standard aircraft and never in combat. if the U.S. admits that they have the technology necessary to create these experimental aircraft, it will only be a matter of time before every other country in the world will have the technology as well. open acknowledgement of the atomic bomb and its use in WW2 resulted in the technology's swift dissemination to countries like Pakistan and India.

Okay, seriously now...does anyone honestly think that if UFO's had the technology to visit our planet they would return for another visit? I mean, look at this place! I would be embarassed for any other non-earth life form to see our planet like this. Also, if anyone has ever worked for the government they would know that the government does a horrible job of keeping anything secret. Bunch of yappy old fishwives sitting around gossiping. If ET ever visited he would vomit, hop in his little saucer and fly out of here!

Project Blue Book has long since been available but the many holes in that release need to be revealed. Otherwise the government continues to appear to be lying to the public and if that is the case is that the America and world we want to live in? As a witness to a UFO I can say that if it is American Technology then we have nothing to fear from other countries because it is the most awesome flying machine I have ever witnessed.

My sincere compliments CNN!!! Thank you for having the courage to cover such an important story. At the risk of ridicule, CNN has given the UFO subject a chance to be heard. Now, with people like Capt. Edgar Michell, John Podesta, and Pres. Obama, we have the best opportunity that we've ever had to uncover the biggest revelation in human history. A revelation that very few of us know to be true, but sadly, our own government and many others have been keeping from us for so long. Pres. Obama, you said all through your campaing that with OUR help we can change our country and the world....Here is the biggest chance that you will ever get sir. You have 20 million people waiting for your leadership and transparency. If you lead. We will follow. Thank you again CNN. You are still my favorite news network.

Wow what a ridiculous package on TV, Jim. I'm an agnostic when it comes to this stuff, but I think it's disgusting for you to try to put your little humorous slant on a topic that many people, in some cases prominent people, take quite seriously. You have no courage.

In answer to your "Quick Vote" yes I believe there have been visits to our world by extraterrestrials, I also believe some of them are still here, and residing in CONGRESS.

Cudos for covering the Edgar Mitchell story on UFOs. That said, why must you persist in using hokey "X Files" music and graphics to accompany an otherwise serious news story? You do not do this for other topics, but UFOs, when covered at all (and that's not often) routinely are draped with distracting comments, music, etc., that detract from the story. Such sensationalism openly discredits those who report thier experiences, including the likes of astronauts. I am not a "UFO nut" as conventionally defined by most media, but as a 25 year Air Force veteran in the security career field, and someone who has done some serious research on this topic, I can assure you that these hundreds of reports daily around the globe are not just mistaken views of Venus or swamp gas.

There are many reasons why this topic has received scant attention by the US Government, to include a significant effort at disinformation and open ridicule of witnesses and victims as standing policy by the DOD and CIA that traces back to the Truman administration (and well before). The evidence of UFO encounters, crashes, recoveries, etc., is considerable and well documented. This is a story that is well past due and both deserves and needs airing and telling. Consider that other governments are finally opening their files as well, including France, England, China, Canada, Mexico and many more. They can't all be crazy.
