What’s on Tap – Friday May 1, 2009

Here are the big stories on the agenda today:

A source confirming to CNN that Supreme Court Justice David Souter is retiring when the term ends in June.  It will be President Obama’s first appointment to the high court and the first since President Bush appointed Samuel Alito in 2006.  A lot of names are already being floated.  Our resident court expert, Jeffrey Toobin will be here to break down the president’s choices.

Another state, Virginia, now reporting its first confirmed cases of swine flu.  A man and a woman from the central part of the state apparently brought it back from Mexico.  They're recovering at home.  At least 300 schools nationwide are shut down over swine flu concerns.  States are now receiving and stockpiling antiviral drugs from the Strategic National Stockpile.  In Mexico, all 176 pro soccer games will be played this weekend in empty stadiums in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.  52 new cases of the flu have been reported there in just the past 24 hours.

Memo to the president: Saving the homeowner.  President Obama’s $75 billion plan is supposed to help as many as nine-million American families avoid foreclosure or refinance their mortgages, but hundreds of thousands of Americans are getting foreclosed as banks end their foreclosure moratoriums and tighten their grip on people who fell behind on their mortgages.  Are they on their own now?

Michelle Obama:  Comic Book Hero.   She isn't faster than a speeding bullet and she can't leap tall buildings in a single bound, but Michelle Obama is the subject of a new comic book celebrating women in the political arena.  The first two comic books in Bluewater Comics' "Female Force" were about Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton and have sold thousands of copies.  Now the creators of “Female Force” are hoping the popularity of the first lady will translate to sales for their latest creation.

gay marriage is a civil rights issue NOT a religious issue. We are a country that separates church and state .Thank God Let those who wish to engage in civil marriage engage in civil marriage and to those religious leaders who extend their condolescence to those committed in love to abide.

I just read something on another site this morning that somewhat disturbed me. I read that when the Supreme Court Justice does retire, that the position may be filled by a close family member of Obaba. His own wife! This is our first lady and I believe her to have many peas on her plate as it is already! She is needed elsewhere! And not to mention ...Putting ur own wife in the seat? We won't sell it ...just keep it in the family?? That should be just as illegal as selling a seat, if you ask me! This is all beginning to sound shady! I do hope that our prez. would not even consider doing such a thing! People are starting to wake up and see things as they are. Ratings are slipping, altho they deny it. It should be banned. One should NOT be permitted to appoint his or her own spouse to a high court judicial seat! Talk about BIAS! Sounds like he's for the people here??t hope this does not end up a reality! I already can smell a RAT!

Palin, shes no maverick, shes a hypocryte of the worst kind. All shes doing is trying to feel the waters out there before she makes her big push to run for a higher office again! If this country elects that woman to any more public offices then I`ll move to Canada! She has no place in polotics what so ever! Wake up America, shes one of those neo nazis in disguise!

about the pig flu, how is it possible for Mexico to say that they have just over 300 cases of this pig flu and have well over 100 deaths! Come on CNN, get to the bottom of the real numbers! Mexico is not telling us everything! We as a nation need to really know what good Mexico is for us because I see no reason to keep the border open to their filth and diseases! Theres nothing they can provide for our country that we cant produce ourselves! Try later down the road after they have gotten control on their lawless nation and have fixed all that is wrong with Mexico and its a lot!

What Jennifer Granholm, as a resident of Michigan not only has she drug Michigan through the mud over the past 6 years or so, shes also not even from this country! She was born in Canada, since when do we nominate justices from other countries? She is the worst candidate I`ve have ever heard! No Granholm for Michigan and certainly no Granholm for the Supreme Court!

about the Supreme Court Justice, hopefully Obama is very very careful when choosing his pick, we as a nation can not afford a gestopo type court like it was heading for with all of Bush`s neo nazi picks! We need justices that reflect the majority of Americans and not ones that have narrow minded hypocrytical do as we say not as we do so called justices! Be very careful Mr. Obama, here is your chance to really start making a change in the right wing leaning Supreme Court! We are supposed to be in the land of the free but we a few narrow minded fools are in charge of the Supreme Court and can dictate what we as a nation can and cant do based on their beliefs is totally wrong!

75 billion dollars for home owners now thats a laugh .deep down what it adds up to is 75 billion dollars to the banks if he wants this money to get to the home owners he needs to send it to the home owners as a government loan because giving it to the banks to spred out is just a not going to happen unfunny joke.
