Judging Sotomayor

During his presidential campaign, President Obama suggested that he hoped to have an administration that would be post-racial. In other words, not hung up on matters of race. But several Republicans say Judge Sonia Sotomayor's own words have put the issue of race front and center in her nomination to the Supreme Court.

    Liberal, moderate, conservative or any combination. The type of jurist I'm wanting depends on their positions. Dred Scot, Indian Removal Act, Eminant Domain Laws are just a few positions I'd like some comment on. All of these gave the gov't more power over the goverened.

    I think everybody should concentrate on Sotomayor by being a role model not only for the latinos but for anybody in this country (men or woman, or any race). Only determination and hard work has put her where she is now. Everybody should learn from her, if you have a will there is way. America is the country of opportunity. I am myself latina and I was able to obtain a PhD in Electrical Engineering in this country.

    Arvind, it would be safe to guess that the GOP does not condemn the rantings of Rush L. because ...this is the USA. He has the rights to freedoms of speech and has every right to speak his mind, no matter who does not appreciate his words! That is the beauty of having freedom. You may not agree with the words, but he has EVERY right to say them freely! Anyway, I think that she is one of the most racist judges I have known and it is hard to even believe that someone with those racist views could even get to be a judge on a supreme court! She messed up in New Haven! I believe it was against the "white" man, plain and simple! She should not be re-writing the law!! We have a constitution! She needs to learn it a little before placing any rulings! She should NOT be able to even alter the law at all. We have a constitution!! What she needs to be doing is following the rights laid out for us in the US Constitution, and NOT re-writing the laws to fit her racial adgenda. No matter, anyone with these radical ideas, I believe to be a BAD choice! They are to be NON RACIST! They say she is just a mean judge with a foul mouth and foul attitude. You would think that the American people deserved a little better than this. But, why do we need to think anymore?? We have a government right now that wants to do ALL of our thinking for us!! Oh Boy!! Now, doesn't that make you feel cozy??

    None of the republican leaders have had the guts or inclination to forthrightly condemn Rush/Newt/Tancredo when asked by any show host. They have dodged this question every time. And each time in their mealy mouthed response they harp upon UCB, DUKE and NewHaven. Some surreptitiously and some brazenly. Lindsey Graham is the brazen one and most others the mumbling variety. Each one has said that it was poor choice of words. By implication, the underlying sentiment is Okay with them. All of these guys either in tacit agreement with Rush/Newt/Tancredo combine or they are suffering from the Steele Syndrome – i.e."tail between their legs" when genuflecting in front Boss Limbaugh.

    ***I would like any GOP/Conservative guests on AM to be pressed to answer why they do not forthrightly condemn Rush & Co. Thanks!***
