Editor's Note: American Morning’s Wednesday audience strongly opposed Senator McCain’s remarks about the Iranian election, equating it to “asking the loser in the Super Bowl how to play a winning football game,” and calling him a hypocrite: [His] “newfound concern for the human rights of Iranians is laughably absurd – those are the very same humans he joked about Bomb-Bomb-Bombing, remember?”
- Monica: Senator McCain's newfound concern for the human rights of Iranians is laughably absurd – those are the very same humans he joked about Bomb-Bomb-Bombing, remember? CNN could have easily run that tape, and revealed the Senator as the opportunistic hypocrite he is.
- Omid: I think McCain's position on making statements on Iran showing "unequivocal support" for the protesters is proof of the monumental disaster his presidency would be. His blind devotion to making waves with the Iranian government will only cause more deaths and create more pain for the Iranians in the street who are fighting for their own country. Iranians want freedom – freedom from inside influence AND outside influence. It was international intervention, particularly American and British intervention, that swept the Islamic Revolution into power, and we can NOT afford to make that mistake again.
- Ralph: I disagree with Mr. McCain. We should mind our own business for now in Iran. His assertion that voting rights is a basic human right is wrong. Democracies don't work everywhere. When you have ethnic and religious fanaticism as the norm, democracies can't work. Besides, if people cared what McCain thought, they would have elected him.
- Joe: Asking John McCain how to handle the Iranian election situation is like asking the loser in the Super Bowl how to play a winning football game. McCain represents the worst of US arrogance and interference in the politics of sovereign nations. We had no right to invade Iraq and we have no right to meddle in Iran’s elections. president Obama is smart enough to know that, McCain is not. Please spare us the semi-coherent ramblings of a bitter, defeated old man.
How do you feel about Senator McCain’s comments regarding the Iranian election? Is he a “hypocrite” as one viewer suggests, or does he provide a deeper insight than has previously been addressed?
Most were supportive of allowing Iran to settle its election issues without the U.S. intervening.
- Rebekah: Do you think Iran may discover what we discovered with Abu Ghraib? While the whole story may not get out now, people are still taking pictures and videos and they will eventually be released. If that happened then do you think it would just reignite the opposition?
- Stanley: President Obama is right with his statements on Iran. We can't dictate to Iranians how to settle their own internal disputes. There is a time to keep quiet and President Obama has the good to know it.
- Ken: YOUR PROPAGANDA MACHINE IS WORKING OVERTIME WITH IRAN. YOU ARE RUNNING ANTI IRAN COMMERCIALS AND ANTI IRAN NEWS. FYI IN .NYC WAR PROTESTORS ARE JAILED, TEAR GASED, BEATEN, AND SPIED ON. PROTESTORS WERE SHOT AND KILLED AT KENT STATE. I SEE THOUSANDS OF PROTESTORS IN THE STREETS OF TEHRAN. THAT WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN NYC OR MOST OTHER U.S. CITIES.
- Michael: I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your report on the Iranian opposition leader's wife but couldn't believe that at the end of it you gave any credence to the Iranian "partial recount". This is a theocratic dictatorship and any "recount" would be just as corrupt as the original election.
How do you feel about President Obama’s handling of the election crisis in Iran? Is he right in allowing the sovereign nation to complete its internal election process without the U.S. meddling or should the U.S. get involved? What is the right approach, in your opinion?
ENOUGH OF YOUR NETWORKS LYING PROPAGANDA WE KNOW WHAT YOU ZIONIST CROOKS ARE UP TO!!! SICK PIGS TRY PUTTING THE MAJORITY OF THE US PEOPLE AHEAD OF THE NEO CONS AND ZIONISTS FOR A CHANGE. SICK LYING DOGS
I always like to turn things around and wonder, " What would our citizens have thought if Iranians had condemned our 2000 election farce?" Would we have done anything differently because Iranians voiced their opposition to the Supreme Court declaring the winner? We wouldn't have given them or any other government the time of day? Hell no! President Obama is doing the right thing by not taking sides and not meddling in Iranian elections and protests. Our meddling of affairs there the past has resulted in the crisis today.
Tara,
First learn how to spell!
Second barely 6 months into office you are Obama Bashing, you want to talk about debt. I assume you think he did this? You should have been listening to the news for far more than a few months ago, thats your problem. Try investigating before you speak. No matter who became our next president we would still at this moment in time be in the same boat, now you can either ride in it like every other American or jump ship!
There you go talking about discrimination, which will always be a way for those of you to cry out foul, for Gods sake what do you (assuming you are white) know about discrimination!
Get over it already the fact is we have a BLACK PRESIDENT!!! and a BOLD, BEAUTIFUL "BLACK FIRST LADY" the only civil unrest will come from the ignorance of people like you.
Had John McCain had won this election I would have stood behind him, just as I stand behind Barack. You dont have to agree with everything they say and do. But bottom line we are all Americans living in the United States..."UNITED WE SHOULD STAND"
oh i guess you missed that on the NEWS!!!
No matter what we think – it's whats best for the Iranian people. In the past the USA would have already had some type of involvement – whethert it be on assets or, supplies. I remember a few which, took place. However, times are different and today the internet stuff is everywhere and a major tool..
Now "help" has to redefined. I believe the USA has created avenues for the tweeters, bloggers and covert type facilitattion of the internet. This has been a means for the Iranian's and also the USA to continue the movement. So if you praise the president for not getting involved – well, we should redefine that aspect.
I personally think that the people will need some help soon. The recount is a show. We can only HOPE and or, PRESUME that a recount will change things but, if the recount still shows votes for the bad guy – then I believe at that point hell will break loose. What a real mess it can wind up befing for everyone.
It seems as if we have become so complacent in decissions concerning other countries and so engrossed in going broke – that in a week or, whenever vote results are in – a move on our part will be to late. A very delicate situation the Iran vote gig – it can and most likely will involve us. What a tough one. After all, we are in theneighborhood.
I did not "smash and bash" ,or insult anyone. American's don't act or, react until a disaster happens to them anyways – this is the way we have become. I say wait another week and let it propogate and then decide if our help is needed. If yall American's think we are not already involved then once again you are in denial.
Hello everyone,
I am new to this blogging thing but I have been watchign the news for a few months now and I just have to get on this and put in my two cents about some things. As a concerned american here is my views..
1.) I really could be giving a flying turd what obamas wife is wearing these days.
2.) I really do not care about what dog the predsident is getting
3.) I really do not care if he goes to london to a fancy resturant with his wife who says she hates white people ( WE DON'T LIKE YOU MICHELLE GET OVER YOURSELF)
4.) There new judge the latin woman has said she hates whites to so what makes here a good condidate to be in for that job SHE DISCRIMIGATES AGAINST US!!!
What I care about is HEALTH CARE, THE COST OF FOOD RISING, JOB LOSSES-CUTS AND UNEMPLOYMENT.
What about the debt we have in america I am scared to see what we are going to look like in the next five years. And obama who "claims" he will get everythign out of control ISN'T EVEN A US CITISEN!!
What I see him is or as I should say is a FALSE PROFET.
he claims he will get the US out of all this mess then where is the prof?
What are you going to do to get us out of debt so my child won't have to pay for our mistakes? Why should people have to pay for health care even if they can't afford it?? Why doesn't obama just say the US is headed for another civil war because if he doesn't start making things happen and nto just promisses he can't keep I fear our country as we know it is DOOMED.
I am so glad you asked this question. The man who went around singing Bomb, Bomb Iran has no place critiquing the President on this specific issue. If McCain had won I believe we would have run in there guns drawn and asked questions later. I think Obama is doing quite well with this issue, slow and cautious. He has made it clear that he wants to try and have a dialogue with Iran. At some point this will die down and if he takes too hard a stance against the current regime and they stay in power we may not have a chance to dialogue.
This morning you stated that Iran has called the new presidential hopeful's wife " the Iran version of Michelle Obama". Garbage I say, what has MO done..................nothing, only been in office a few months and already you are kissing her BUtt in a big way.
Your newcast today = drivel
McCain is wrong wrong wrong and sounds just like GW. The Iranian people didn't ask us to intefere and we should stay out of their internal affairs.
