Editor’s Note: The economy remained at the forefront of concern for Thursday’s American Morning audience, as most felt the GOP was “playing politics” with the economy instead of working with President Obama and the Democrats to fix the problems. Many blamed the Bush Administration for the country’s poor financial health.
- Chris: How are we to accept the fact that the GOP is the once doing the grilling, let's remember they're the ones who have [put] the world in this place and someone [who] steps up to try and fix the problem is being criticize.
- Scott: I can't believe congress is talking about another "Stimulus Project". They are truly crazy. They haven't really even started to spend this one. Are they trying to see how fast they can bankrupt America.
- Leann: I was enjoying "Roman's Numeral" this morning, following reports on how the stimulus monies have been spent or mis-spent – many states having used stimulus funds for balancing their budgets. Roman's report showed that some states have spent up to 63% on Medicaid. I am blown away that the media and hard working, tax paying citizens are not outraged by this. While I am grateful that there are programs to help the elderly and children who need healthcare coverage, there are so many illegal immigrants sucking our Medicaid program dry, it leaves the states over burdened. I cannot fathom why Medicaid reform hasn't begun by simply removing illegals from the program. It is not that difficult to identify false documents and refuse services. Spend a day in an HR office and see how often jobs are refused until proper documentation is presented. 63%!!!!!!!! that is huge!!!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! ps....love to get my AMFIX!! thanks...
On Wednesday, Congressional Republicans tore into the Obama Administration over its implementation of the economic stimulus plan, arguing that the White House is mishandling the distribution of the money while dramatically overstating the ability of the package to create jobs. What do you think the next steps should be regarding the current stimulus or an additional stimulus package? Is the U.S. acquiring so much debt that we’re headed for our country’s bankruptcy, or is spending the appropriate approach? How do you feel about the stance of the GOP, saying that President Obama’s stimulus package has not created enough jobs? Are they correct in this assertion?
With CIA Director Leon Panetta’s recent revelation about the agency’s lies, some believed Nancy Pelosi was vindicated for her assertion that they had lied to her. Others were incensed that the Obama Administration was being blamed for the actions that happened during the former administration
- Dan: Mike Allen's report was utter BS. The revelation that the CIA had been misleading Congress gives nothing but credence to Pelosi's earlier statements. Yet, Allen bends over backwards to frame the whole story as something bad for Pelosi and the Democrats. This was Bush's CIA that was misleading Congress, and that would be the story if you weren't getting the story from a Republican tool like Allen. […] you people are pathetic.
- Keith: Your story this morning about the CIA lying to Congress for the last 8 years and then you tried to blame Obama is why this country is in so much crap. For 8 years you supported Bush and all his lies. They were the most corrupt government in American history. Instead of doing your job and reporting the truth you did as you were told and now you’rr trying to blame Obama for their corruption is shameless.
What are your thoughts on CIA Director Panetta’s revelations? Is this to be expected for a covert agency? How can Congress and the President better address such issues of deception? With the constant threat of new attacks on the United States and our allies, is there a better or new direction for which the CIA should be tasked?
T. Boone Pickens was accused of being today’s “robber baron” for halting his plans for alternative energy, with most suggesting he was only interested in “lining his pockets with Federal Subsidies for wind power.”
- Amanda: This morning Kiran Chetry interviewed T. Boone Pickens about his wind and natural gas plans. Follow-up questions about the environmental impact of nat. gas extraction (hydraulic fracturing, contamination of drinking water with benzene, naphthalene, etc.) and unregulated industry practices NEED to be asked. Furthermore, for balance, interviewing someone from the Endocrine Disruption Exchange (like Dr. Theo Colborn) seems essential. Americans need to know all the facts about natural gas production - and about how cozy industry is with many levels of government. The news media should not provide uncritical air time for modern day robber barons.
- Gerry: I enjoy news in the morning instead of chit chat but I am from Texas, not in the oil business, and T. Boone’s Pickens Plan is to line his pockets with Federal Subsidies from wind power and he already has.
The chairman of BP Capital Management announced Tuesday that his plans for the Pampa Wind Project, designed to generate 4,000 megawatts of electricity using thousands of wind turbines, is on hold for the time being. What do you think about this change? What questions would you have for Mr. Pickens if you were conducting the interview? How do you feel about the second viewer’s comment that Mr. Pickens’ only concern is “to line his pockets with Federal Subsidies from wind power”?
