Jason Carroll, you've been sold a bill of goods and missed two stories in the bargain.
One: lobstermen whine like this every summer, it's only a matter of degree. You just produced a dog bites man story. There's so much more to the story.
Two: the Matinicus story is about more than just territory. It's family dysfunction, patriarchy and an outlaw mentality. Those island lobstemen pull down better than $500,000 per year. Do a bit of research on the highest paid lobster fishermen in the state (that is, the world) and they are always from Matinicus. It's public information available on the internet.
I don't expect you to helicopter in and be able to get to the nub. These people barely talk to their wives and hardly ever tell them the truth. Why would they give you any actual insight and news?
