Palin steps down as Alaska governor

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (CNN) - Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin gave her final speech as Alaska's governor Sunday before stepping down from her post, telling a Fairbanks crowd that she is resigning "to chart a new course to advance the state."
"Now people who know me, they know how much I love this state ... I feel it is my duty to avoid the unproductive, typical, politics-as-usual, lame-duck session in one's last year in office," Palin said, just moments before Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell was sworn in as governor.
"With this decision, now I will be able to fight even harder for you, for what is right and for the truth," Palin continued. "And I have never felt you need a title to do that."
Palin - interrupted briefly by a heckler - devoted much of her last address to a rundown of her accomplishments as governor, including winning legislative approval for a massive natural gas pipeline and governing "with fiscal restraint."
"What I promised, we accomplished," she told the mostly supportive crowd.
Palin has been a polarizing figure in the Republican Party since August, when then-presidential candidate John McCain made her his pick for vice president. At the time, little was known about the first-term governor. Within days, Palin's face and strong personality was splashed across newspapers, magazines and tabloids.

Good thing she did not become VP. With all the problems the US is facing, I think she would have quit from the begining or to her credit 6 months tops!!

I agree with most of the comments about Ms.Palin.She has to remember the two other presidents children were also in the news and I think if the present president's daughters were much older they would be in the news also for their comings and goings.If anyone made fun of her baby that's cruel and I have never read anywhere where anything negative was said about him.As for those insulting Obams stickers,most of us know why they are still out there.50 states would be a lot to oversee, and as for her comments on Hollywood,wasn't she on SNL?I do hope Hilary throws her hat back in the ring again, she has the experience of both the negatives and positives of being in the spotlight and she can handle it,I loved Bill he would make agreat first man.

Everytime Sarah Palin opens her mouth trouble befalls her. Her comment on leaving her post not wanting to be a "LAME DUCK GOVERNOR" was a total insult to the Lt.Governor and other Governors around America. In other words she is only passing on the responsibility of "LAME DUCK'" to the Lt.Governor. She also asked the media not to go after the new Governor's children. I think Sarah has only herself to blame for this. Bristol took sex in the city to a new high and Sarah paraded her children all over America when they should have been in school last year on the campaign trail. Sarah Palin will never be a CREDITABLE MESSENGER in the future in politics.
This woman is trying to cover up something that is going to come out later and that is why she is stepping down. The ethic committe is already found out she was doing something she wasn't suppose to, just as she was taking those children all over the place when she was campaining with McCain, and charged the tax payer's for their expense. I think that ex-boyfriend of her daughter would have a lot to say off camera. He probably know's alot. Also no more ever was said about that incident of the highway trooper that was fired, that was going thru a nasty divorce with her sister. To many things don't add up good for this woman.

Sarah Palin is nothing but a quiiter and a hypocrite. She constantly bashes the media while she is making certain that she keeps her face there. She talks about not being a lame-duck while she spent hundred of thousands on clothes she also took her kids on trips that they weren't invited to and had the state pay for it just to name a few. She acts more like a television star than a politian, during the presidental campaign she said that Obama was a rock star, seems to me that she is the one biten by the lime light bug. She she rarely talks about anything of substance she constantly talks about herself.
Does she even have a platform?
What's next for Sarah Palin? I'd love to say that she'll simply disappear from the American scene, but gosh darn it,, that's probably asking too much. I think she sees herself as a serious contender for the on-air "mouthpiece of the far right" in competition with Rush Limbaugh–and she may be right. She's certainly a lot cuter than Rush. Maybe if she gets on-air herself, she'll stop whining about how the big ,bad media has treated her. (My favorite part of her farewell speech was the when she tried to tie the bravery of our troops to her woes with the media. Get over it, Sarah.)
In terms of possible future national office–she has about as much chance as Rush would if he ran for president. As John McCain learned this past November, no matter how rabidly dedicated and vocal your base is, that won't win the presidency. A candidate needs to have broader appeal to the center, and that's something Palin is sorely lacking.
Palin stepped down from public office to earn more money. I'm begging our media to let her go; let her become truly non-public. Please stop discussing her. Yes, she is a very cute little sound bite, but she embarrasses me greatly with her total lack of message coherency. She models too many factors of poor public speech habits. I'd like to see her truly go–to go far away from public discourse. CNN could help by avoiding unnecessary coverage.
I find it ironic that Mrs. Palin criticized the news media for manufacturing falsehoods, considering that her campaign for the White House was fraught with exaggeration and deceit aimed at nothing more than stirring up controversy. This should be offensive to all Americans with the intellect and education to see through the childish sandstorm of anger she has whipped up in an effort to hide her incompetence.
Mrs. Palin was irrelevant as governor of Alaska, detrimental to the Republican cause as a vice-presidential candidate, and deliberately incendiary as a private citizen. It is my sincere hope that she take what tattered fragments remain of her dignity and recede with the tide from public view. Maybe then history will simply forget her as an also-ran, rather than remember her as the last vestige of an incompetent and immoral politic of division and hatred.
As a true republican I think now Ms Palin put herself first before the people of her State ....for her own financial gains .....she is no doubt a quitter...can you imagine if she was either our vice president much less the president and then quit on our nation... I had doubts about her selection last year to be on the ticket for our vice president ...and when Gen. Colin Powell went the Air not to support our party ...and explain why he thought then Gov Palin was not a good choice ... he was right !!! A quitter this Nation does not need....
This woman needs to step down and be quiet. She has proven she isn't responseable to hold any other office. She quiet's in the middle of being governor, how could any one have any confidence in her holding any other office. God forbid if the people of this country would put her in as president. The heat got to hot for her, and she took the easy way out ,and now she is trying to cover it up. As the old story goes, all dirt will come out in the wash. Also this woman could never hold a candle to Hillary. She needs to ask Hillary to give her lessons in how to be a good politician. THANKS
The best thing that Sarah Palin could do for the US is stay out of politics and remain a public citizen. Just stay in Alaska Sarah and live off the land, Please!!
When is she going to go away? I would never, ever vote for her if she ran for president. And, if she doen't like the reporters writing about her family well I think that is too bad – she was a public figure. When I last checked we have something called freedom of the press and freedom of speech which is some of our freedoms that our wonderful military is protecting.
Sarah Palin fit the proverb "empty vessels make the most noise" very well. I really don't understand how she got the job as Governor of Alaska because Sarah Palin has displayed total inability to get any job done. All she does is TALK and when she is talking nothing makes common sense. She ask the media not to go after the next Governor's children leaving herself expose to more blows on her own family. Bristol her daughter is the one Sarah has to blame because she slept with men including the black kid (kevin) from LA and performed sex in the city in her own way. Let me say this as clearly as possible "DO NOTHING FEAR NOTHING" and I hope that Sarah Palin would stop telling lies as a private citizen now. Sarah Palin has too many bagages to carry.
Please, lets give Sarahwhat she wants, and all "main stream media" totally stop reporting about her. Then we'll she how fast she pulls some stunt to regain their attention! With out them you are nothing! You are a very stupid woman, who thinks you are smarter than the rest of us. I kinda feel sorry for you.
The news media making things up about her? Is that what Palin said? Funny, I did not hear anything they made up! I listened to Palin herself when she gave the wrong answers to the questions during the campaign OR no answers at all to questions she should had been able to answer but you media made up she comes across as not being qualified? You made up everything negative about her, huh? Well, that is not how I see it and I have been a Republican all my life so it's not because I am a Democrat that I just do not like her! No one in the news media gave me that opinion. I listen to people and what they say and form my own opinions. Sorry Palin but I do not need the news media to help me think. So many things PALIN SAID not the news media is why I do not like her as a politician! And as far as all our freedoms she stands for? I guess that little one called free speech is not one of them? I get the impression from Palin that unless you say something positive about her, shut up! Ooops guess free speech is not one of our freedoms she cherishes?
I live in a rep. state and we saw palin stickers everywhere. After her stepdown the stickers,posters,car decals started coming down. In just a few weeks you really see one at all. They still have insulting Obama stickers on there cars however.
She accused – – – someone – – ? – – of making up lies about the American trrops. Typically Palin, she never said what the "lies" were.
She said, "We have to eat, so we hunt." Great, honey. How do you justify assault weapons in the cities, the suburbs – and even rural areas, for that matter?
It is time for the media to take the cameras and mikes out of Sarah Palin's face, and get her out of our face. She quit her job. Most of the sheeple who love Sarah Palin are probably watching FAUX News – NOT CNN. I'd be willing to bet that most of the people who watch CNN pay attention to the news and the issues, and most of those people can't stand Sarah Palin. Get her out of our face, please!!! (Unless, as it sometimes appears, you are really good friends with the RNC?)
Not only does she contradict herself several times in every speech, but if she has any further political aspirations, she needs to come to the realization that the American people are not so stupid that they would elect a president who didn't even make it through one term as a governor. If she quits on one state, who knows what would happen were she in charge of all 50...
I am a hunter but I never killed an animal just for the sake of killing something. If you don't eat it don't kill it. She is the type of person that would kill an animal just to hang it on her wall, an those type of people are not only dangerous but are usually mean and just to be frank not very smart.
Who the heck cares that she stepped down. WILL YOU GUYS JUST STOP REPORTING ON HER. NO ONE WITH ANY COMMON SENSE CARES ABOUT THIS WOMAN. WHEN WILL YOU GUYS STOP TALKING ABOUT HER!!!!!
Sarah Palin's future? Who cares? The more the media follows her, you are making her news. She criticizes the press but if they left her alone where would she be? She can't have it both ways. If she would stop doing ignorant things, the press would have more positive things to say. I hope the media does leave her alone!

I have no idea what this women says. I try to listen to her speeches and they confuse me. Her word usage is strange.
Funny, VP joe Biden makes a MAJOR foreign policy "GaF"; and some of you media elites and networks are playing it up as yet another "GAF"; now the Russians and the Obama ADM is scrambling to fix another THUD/Damage Control. Sarah Palin in the media eyes is another story. You guys seize on the opportunity to make fun of her kids, calln her inarticulate and any adjectives to make her look in a negative light. You guys helped pushed the GOV out of office; why not do the same thing for JOE BIDEN.
I noticed she kept addressing Hollywood. Is that who or what she believes makes up America?
And saying that the new Governor had children too and to leave them alone. I believe he will not parade them around like circus animals. He seems to be an actual politician, with a grasp of the language, laws and more importantly the Constitution. I am sure in school she was just "golly gosh darn it all awesome" in acting class. In reality though she has failed by leaps and bounds to sway the whole of America.
It takes more than winks, firing a riffle and hugging children to give one wisdom of a politician.
