What’s on Tap – Tuesday August 11, 2009

Here are the big stories on the agenda today:

  • Make or Break Month.  The president's getting ready for a road trip to sell his plan for health care reform.  He'll start with a town hall meeting this afternoon in New Hampshire.  We're live at the White House where the president's planning to change his tone and his tactics.  The health care debate is even diving families.  We found two brothers who are on opposite sides of the aisle and the issue, and they’ll be here to duke it out, live.
  • The results are in, but the L.A. County coroner's office is keeping Michael Jackson’s autopsy sealed, because of the on-going investigation into his death.  Police are still trying to determine whether anyone should be charged.  But we do know from a source that Jackson’s physician, Doctor Conrad Murray gave the singer the powerful drug Propofol in the 24-hours before he died.
  • Stranded on an airplane, all night long!  Forty seven passengers on a Continental ExpressJet from Houston to Minneapolis wound up trapped on the tarmac, in another city for nine hours.  Babies were crying... diapers were filling up… and there was no food.  We'll talk to one passenger about a flight, and a night he'd like to forget.

To Doug: I do not believe anything you Republicans say right now. There are so many blatant lies out there it is phenomenal. By the way since you refused to copy and paste the Articles and sections of the Constitution into a comment, I read them and there is absolutely nothing that has anything to do with what is happening regarding a bill which is still in committee at this point. Nothing in the ARticles and sections of the Constitution prohibits the passing of the bill or the implementation of such a bill. Where the heck are you guys coming from. Can't you man up and just admit you really didn't know and made the Articles and Section numbers up to impress the ignorant? Be honest and take ego out of it.

Carol Costello has done it again. Her piece on tax payer funded abortion being in the health care bill..if it isn't included specifically in the bill there is then it is assumed that it is included. A specific ammendment has to be placed in the bill to exclude it and all the republican ammendments to do so have been voted down! John Roberts is also showing his far left colors by totally distorting the conservative view. Try to be a little less transparent John! It pretty obvious that if you are adding 40 million uninsured to the mix with no increase in the providers that there will ultimately have to be less health care available for all..longer wait times, fewer available procedures..rationing..it is inevitable. I'm just asking that you look at both sides of the argument fairly. Did you report that Obama said yesterday that AARP endorsed his plan? There's a direct statement from them that they do not. Please just open and fair and not selective journalism please!

Palin – Lim & Beck, they are out to start a whole new kind of Civil War. Look at the faces of the screamers and haters. Actually what are they angry about. With all of the people that go to the emergency room now with no insurance, just who do they think is paying now, oh wait, if they are yelling at the Health Care bill that the president is trying to come up with to help people, then they are not thinking are they. Why is it so easy for these people to get so violent with just the mention of words like – DEATH PANEL – that they would hang a sign on a child saying "granny dies". What kind of Christian are these? Palin said one time – tell the TRUTH – physician heal thy self!!!!

MIke, you asked for me to quote it and they didn't post it. My proof came from the National Archives. You do believe them right? Or arre you just so indoctrinated that the truth( the Constitution) doesn't matter

I agree with Doug. This is ALL in violation of our Constitutional Rights. Remember those, People? Where are our patriots? They are speaking out now at townhall meetings getting assulted by the ... purple tella tubbies. They are being called Un-American, if that isn't the most Un-American statement that I have heard as of yet! What a shame this is! You should start to study history....start back in the 1940's.....till now! You may be shocked to see how this all is coming into play now! EDUCATE YOURSELVES! We are all being had, as Americans.

Let me just say one more thing. I have now read the aforementioned Articles and Sections of the Constitution and it is as I already stated. These people engaging in making this type of comments are spreading nothing other than pure flat out lies. There is NOTHING in any of the areas of the Constitution that were mentioned, that in any way pertains to any Congressional action to be taken in the future regarding a Health Care bill. That is it folks, NOTHING. Lies, lies and more lies. If that is the tactics of the Republican Party, the Conservatives and the pseudo Religious Right then I have to ask why is the media not fulfilling its responsibility and pointing out to the people that they ARE lying! Why do they lie you might ask? Because either they or stupid or pretending to be stupid so they can spread the lies in the full knowledge that there are people out there even more stupid then they are who will immediately espouse these lies as gospel truth and protest them. After a point if any violence occurs, the people who spread these lies should be arrested for inciting to riot. That should be the case whether a Republican or a Democrat. Stop the lying!

Read Article 1 section 8 which explicitly lays out the powers given to the Congress. Then read Article 1 section 9 to see what is not allowed for Congress to do. Then Look and understand what is explicitly stated in the 10th Amendment, making it part of the Constitution about what isn’t in the Constitution. Finally read Article 6 of the Constitution and see that they must take an “Oath or Affirmation to support the Constitution. Then tell me it doesn’t exist.

SO WHAT DOES IT SAY? COME ON PRINT IT. PUT THE OFFENDING LINE FROM ARTICLE 1 SECTION 8 AND 9 AND ARTICLE 6 DOWN AND TELL US HOW THAT APPLIES IN ANY WAY TO A HEALTH BILL BEING WRITTEN (EVENTUALLY) AND PUT BEFORE CONGRESS FOR DEBATE AND A VOTE? WHY DO YOU HIDE BEHIND THE CONSTITUTION WITHOUT PRINTING THE SPECIFICS? I COULD ANSWER THAT BUT THEN IT MIGHT REALLY GET NASTY AROUND HERE.

To the man who is willing to quote the “Constitution. Yours is a classic tactic that is used for spreading fear and mis-information. You mention the ‘holy’ Constitution and indeed it should be followed but then you deftly link the President and Congress and the Health Care Bill to an un-constitutional act.
So my friend it sis time you revealed this veiled apparition that you describe. Go ahead then, quote the Constitution and reveal to us what the heck you are talking about other than blathering about what does not exist!

When Obama ran for president he said, "I will reform healthcare". Why did they vote for him if they dont want reform and change.

Couldn't agree with Michael Shannon (above ) more about CNN's news sense: The story about Hillary and the mistranslated question just adds insult to injury. It really is a sign of CNN's desperation to be either cute or controversial, and its willingness to manufacture issues that you wasted so much time showing a clip that is neither cute nor controversial and adds nothing to anything.

Americans are amazing. They'll shout, scream and all but riot to stop a discussion on health care, yet sit without a peep on a fetid plane for hours amid backing up sewage without adequate food or water going nowhere.

Where is the much vaunted American imagination and enterprise? If passengers had wrapped their heads in towels, and called out "God is Great", I guarantee they would have been escorted off that plane to freedom in no time.

Every detail , every consequence, every agenda will be debated until the very end. The one question that seems to always give pause is do we as a nation with a government created by the government for the government to be in control of a system that encourages competition? Our very nation was founded on limiting the size of government and protecting the person..not increasing the size of government and controlling the person.

At one point, being an elected offical was a "duty" to serve...now its a profession that pays pretty darn good....forever in most cases. So why do we want a system that will not be used by the very ones creating it? If its good for us it should be required for them don't you think? Also, since there are no real common Americans in the White House (news alert...there are more of us than there are of you) let me speak out and say no to a government run program. You people don't even know what the price of a gallon of milk cost ....because you have people buying it for you.. We don't need Big Brother looking over us nor do we want Big Brother in charge of our healtcare.

In answer to your question "What do I want to hear from the President today?", I want him to categorically state he will uphold the U.S. Constitution and give up Health-care along with all the other stuff he signs in violation of said Constitution. I can quote article and section that ALL of Congress and All the presidents since Thomas Jefferson violate regularly. The american people need to have the backbone to force them to cease and desist from properly carrying out their prescribed duties and only their duties.

An airline screw up, the unresults of a coroner's investigation into whether it was Propofol, Anti-depressants or an overdose of Estrogen that killed Michael Jackson and who is to blame (in this age of it doesn't matter about responsibility and who made the choice in the first place). That is pretty lame for news media priorities for the day. Did you ever ask yourselves if maybe the public is sick and tired of the MJ fiasco and the milking of someones death to produce pitiful news stories?
Now Obama and the healthcare plan. For those of us who are not glued to our screens day in and day out to watch the tepid and inane coverage by CNN can you please answer one question for me and all Americans like me who sporadically watch the news but care greatly about our nation? IS THERE OR IS THERE NOT AN ACTUAL DRAFTED HEALTH CARE BILL BEFORE EITHER BODY OF CONGRESS or are there just copies of state bills and other country's health care bills? I am totally confused and the emails flying around claiming the bill says this or that.
What the hell is going on?? Can't you clearly report THE NEWS and re-iterate, repeat and inform what is true and what is not?????

To John Roberts- John be charitable to your Goldens. Obviously you had males; females are sharp and lovable. Smile John your comments were very enjoyable.
