Nude NY portraits: Art or pornography?

Zach Hyman has been photographing nude portraits all over New York recently without any problems. But in an ironic twist, he had one of his models arrested when she posed for a picture nude inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Our Jason Carroll talked to the photographer and the model to discuss if their work is art or if it crosses a line.

I believe that it is art; although you have to respect public wishes. Some young children and minors may be around and it is unacceptable to have naked men and women around without a care for the opinions of other around them. I find it so selfish that "artists" who want the world to love their pieces of work can't acknowledge our own opinions. I would not want my husband and family to see a random naked girl in the street- i would be outraged!

They were in a public museum... people come to these places (with their children no doubt) to see art, not some nude strumpet parading her genitalia for everyone to see. D. Porter – there are numerous nudist colonies that would be happy have you among their ranks.

If and when I do have children, I want to be able to take them to a public museum without running into some half naked looney having snapshots of her crotch taken for all to see – including my children.

"Dad, what is that lady doing? Oh sweetie, she's just expressing herself artistically and that perver... that man, over there is taking pictures of her to put up on his blog.."

It's art if you are overweight, and if you have a nice body it's pornography.

Whether nudity is considered Art or Pornography depends on on the viewer. To me, there is nothing more artistic than a beautiful body, unless it has been covered up with unnecessary and unnatural adornments, "fashions" or tattoos.

The time for the Puritan belief that the nude human body is sinful, and wrong needs to end. We are born nude, it it was so wrong we would be born with clothes on.

In some countries it is wrong for a woman to bare her ankle – as it is consider too sexual.

Now if this artist/photographer – did not get the proper permits to take these photos at the museum then shame on him. As should be said for the artist that was arrested for the mass nude photo shoot..

The nude human body has been the study of artists for thousands of years...It is ART.. If it isn't then it will be a sad day when any art and sculpture is destroyed or altered over someone's belief that it is dirty and sinful.
