I live down the road from the coondog cemetery. 30 years ago, my cousin was getting married down in Jackson, MS. Her dad's twin brother chose to have a funeral for his favorite hunting dog at "The Cemetery" instead of attending his niece's wedding. The brothers didn't speak to each other for over ten years.
By the way, on your map visual you put the Roadtrip post for Colbert County in Mississippi and NOT in Alabama.

Can't think of a cooler place for Rob to do a weather spot than 1300 feet above ground on a see-thru platform. The ledge at the Sears Tower (oops, Willis Tower, now) is a clear platform and he'd have a full view of Chicago as a breath-taking backdrop!

Come to Warren, OHIO Local 717 and see over 15,000 retirees of Delphi/GM who worked over 30 years get all their income taken away while GM/Delphi keeps working. Delphi moved over 105,000 jobs overseas and dangled the carrot for workers to retire so they could get their jobs out of the USA. Now, they bankrupt America. At that time, Delphi was stated as a worldwide company when the stock was sold. Now, it is divided and we are bankrupt facing poverty.

Come see what acres of barren American industrial plants look like. Then show pictures of the 105,000 over seas plants working and not paying into American funding for reitrees. Come see the thousands of veterans (some Vietnam who were spit on when they returned from Vietnam) being spit on once again by America and GM. Come see the sick people with no money and no benefits being hung out to die, while foreigners are allowed to work their jobs.

There is no money for our pensions, but where did it go. It went overseas to make profits for executives. Come watch Americans who worked over 30 die, loose their homes, and watch us getting spit on by GM and the American government. It is not a pretty picture. We are crying in Warren, OHIO. Come and see our tears!

READYTOWN – On-Line Emergency Preparedness Program

    Hi Rob!

The City of Weston, FL (located just west of Ft. Lauderdale) is the first city in the nation to offer Readytown. ReadyTown is an all-hazards on-line preparedness tool to assist the community in preparing for an emergency.

It is a simple, step-by-step on-line guide to building an emergency preparedness plan for individuals or families. Along with printing it out, the preparedness plan can be emailed to a personal email account so that it can be accessed from anywhere at any time, and also sent to family members and caretakers.

The City of Weston would appreciate a visit from you to show the rest of the nation how this innovative program can be utilized by other cities that deal with emergencies (hurricanes, tornatoes, earthquaqes, brush fires etc.).

Call Laurie at Weston City Hall 954-385-2000 or email cityhall@westonfl.org.

Hope to hear from you soon!

    Hi Rob,

You definitely need to take a look at VCSims' new professional race car simulator, the RS1 Xtreme. It is very realistic with a moving seat and a 180 degree immersion system that puts you right in the action! There are two demo simulators out on the road at the moment. One is currently in Danville, CA and the other is in College Station, TX. These simulators are used by professional racing teams and enthusiasts alike.

Visit the website at http://www.vcsims.com and if you are interested, give Ron Larabie a call at (918) 406-6312 to set something up or send me an e-mail for more info.

    Cheers!

Pride Week in Chattanooga, TN – October 5-11, 2009. This will be the 2nd year that Chattanooga has had such an event. Chattanooga is very conservative and not very gay friendly. Holding such an event is often viewed as risky for fear of backlash from bashers and haters.

Come to Lincoln, Nebraska for the 140th Nebraska State Fair, Aug 28 – Sept 7, more information at statefair.org. It's the end of an era as this is the last year the fair will be held in Lincoln before the event moves to Grand Island, NE in 2010. Many people, myself included, make the fair an annual event. Good food, good people and good fun!

    The Annual Lumsden Duck Derby

The Lumsden Duck Derby is an annual fundraising event hosted by the Lumsden Sports Association. Proceeds from the Duck Derby support capital expenditures of the Lumsden Sports Centre. The Sports Centre provides recreational activity including hockey, figure skating and curling to Lumsden and the surrounding communities.

    Hi Rob!

You should bring your road show to Memphis, TN. Memphis is more than the home of the blues, birthplace of rock 'n roll and repository of barbecue joints. Memphis is also home to the largest urban park in the country (Shelby Farms Park), which has a herd of 50 American bison right in the middle of the city! We want to see Rob feed the buffalo! They're camera hams. We just held a naming competition for the 8 new babies. The winner, by a landslide, was Mike Byson!

How about coming to Texas to watch the Stephenville/Brownwood high school football game on September 11 in Stephenville. This game has been listed as one of the top 10 things to do in Texas...and notable participants include current Baylor head coach Art Briles (Stephenville Head Coach in the 1990s), current Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Kevin Kolb, current Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead, and others. We would be happy to host you during our morning pep rally at SHS and the game later that night.

Put Rob in the Mystic River at Mystic Seaport, in Connecticut, and watch him get rescued by a Newfoundland dog. Mystic Seaport's first ever Dog Days event is August 28-30.

Rob can kick off the event with this special, one of a kind water rescue. Once he's back on land and dried off, he can meet Rufus, the 2006 Westminster Best in Show Champion.

We'd love to have you in Mystic, Rob. Are you up for the challenge?

Saw Rob's segment this morning about Yo Yo's in Orlando and would like to invite him to stop at the home of America's first Gypsy Vanner Horses in Ocala Florida. We are only a mile off Interstate 75.

Ocala Florida is the home of 1,900 horse farms, is recognized as one of the most unique horse cities in the world and is the home of America's newest breed, the Gypsy Vanner Horse.

The Gypsy Vanner Horse has only been in America since November 24th 1996. Go to http://www.GypsyGold.com for a look at the captivating breed and the story of it's discovery.

P.S. The famous drag car racer Big Daddy Don Garlits has a wonderful museum that is approximately one mile from Gypsy Gold.

    Hi Rob,

We would love for you and your CNN crew to attend our Men's National Tryout Camp in Atlanta, Georgia two weeks from today. As you may know, Team Handball, (not to be confused with the little ball being played in a racquetball court), is the second most popular sport in the world. Forty (40) million people play worldwide. The sport is booming right now in our country as we re-build our National and Olympic teams.

Our top National coaches including Olympian Darrick Heath will be attending and putting our country's top male athletes through hard core drills to determine who will be wearing the red white and blue!

    Here are the details:

Dates: Friday August 28 (morning and afternoon sessions)
Saturday August 29 (morning and afternoon sessions)
Sunday August 30 (morning session only)

Location: Morris Brown College, downtown Atlanta, GA

I think this is a great opportunity for CNN to present one of the most exciting sports in the world.

Please let us know if you can attend as I would be there to welcome you and your crew personally. I can be reached at 561 301 8730 or at dominique@usateamhandball.org In the meantime, please catch a glimpse of our sport at: http://www.usateamhandball.org/video

When you see the doctor who lost his two daughters in the Gaza it really puts things into perspective. All the screaming and carrying on about the prospect of change in the health care system is nauseating. Seeing people out of touch with what is happening in this country is disturbing. I look at these outraged people who are probably people who didn't vote for Obama and I have to say they are part of the problem. I am a nurse I work in the Urban areas, the poorest, and most uninsured people in the country. Obesity and lack of care is the biggest reason we are now having this debate. If these hecklers and yelling community members will ask themselves why do i have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol they can look in the mirror. Yes they may have health care but they may be the reason the rest of us don't. The cost of health care is driven thru the roof by people who overeat, don't exercise, and overuse their doctor. I have seen so many people on multiple layers of medicine to control what could be controlled by simply getting their own weight under control. If you don't want health care fine but don't stop the rest of us from having hope for ourselves. Yes people from both sides need to be more in touch and educated. We have a responsibility to our country to change our lifestyle. Get up off Pour duffs and start helping each other. I teach proper diets and lifestyle to people who have no education about these things and it is shocking how out of control our diets are. Prevention is the key to saving the healthcare system not keeping the rest of us out of the loop. Mickey

( I sent this same Idea yesterday to the wrong site).
There is an exotic festival happening soon north of Reno, NV. Its called "The Burning Man Festival". started in SFO area, and has grown to be quite large. Best to visit the web site and its extensive links to all of the various facets of the – "some-what bizzare" event. Thats why I am sending this info as you could easily report many interesting stories daily on CNN morning for the entire event which starts around the 28th and runs to the 7th??. PS if you do go, my daughter and her husband have a theme site, (tent) on "Evolution St, ( or Drive?). They can be reached for more info via e-mail from their "Theme" link posting (at the burning Man web site). The are alphabetically listed in the "R's" i.e. [ "rEVOLVE your ...."]. I'm sure they would be glad to assist you. Better hurry...the organizers are extremely detailed and efficient at manageing this event every year. I personally think that this is a rather unique event, not closely duplicated by any other event in the world. Thanks for reading this – hope you take the bait – good luck

Come to the Eastern Shore of Virgina and enjoy a truly local home town celebration in the small but historic village of Onancock.

The event is held Sept 11-12. (Friday Evening through all day Saturday) The two most exciting events are held 9/12– SAt. afternoon.

The Great Big Paper Boat Race in which folks (mostly children)pilot their home made cardboard carton/duck taped nautical creations to the finish line, and the Yellow Duckie Race, a Hospice fund raiser. The sight of hundreds of folks cheering their own small, plastic rubber duck to the finish line is the epitome of competitive spirit. The duckies cover the race course powered only by the whims of wind and tide.
Come for a visit and catch the Virginia Eastern Shore Spell. Go

Rob's Road Show should visit Centre County, PA and attend Grange Fair, held in Centre Hall, PA. The Grange Fair is the largest and longest running encampment fair in the country. Central PA school districts schedule the first day of school around the ending of the fair. For those Grangers who tent at the fair, their camp sites are "sacred property" which must be passed down from generation to generation. "Dispute" over Grange camp sites are often "dealt" with in divorce or probate courts. Grange is a "cultural" experience and a sociological experiment. ROB WOULD LOVE IT. The food is great, the people watching is fun, and the Grange Fair is deeply rooted in America's agricultural history.

I'm sorry I didn't hear of this site sooner. Starting August 27, 2009, Titusville, PA will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the world's first commercial oil well drilled by Edwin L. Drake in 1859. The anniversary will be remembered with a week-long celebration located in the "Valley That Changed the World." Events include Drake Day Extravaganza located in and on the grounds of Drake Well Museum. All kinds of oilfield stores, tales and exhibits as well as entertainment and demonstrations from the era will be featured from 9am to 7pm. A Nitro show will be the finale to this day. Aug 28th will be the OC&T Railroad Day with train rides through the "Valley That Changed the World" with storytelling aboard the train and a train robbery somewhere along the trip. Sat. Aug 29th will be an all day celebration in downtown Titusville with a Chalk Walk (artists plying their trade on the streets), Kidz Zone, Taste of the Oil Region, Cruise In, Judged Art Show, Heisman display, horse-drawn carriage rides through the historic residential areas, concerts, fireworks, Drake's Folly Brewfest. Everything will be repeated on Sunday except the Brewfest will be a Biergarten. Music and entertainment will be continuous all day on three stages throughout the downtown area. What a great place for fun and excitement for all ages.

I know some have heard of the legend of "Stiffy Green", but at Heinl's Flower Shop in Terre Haute, Indiana you can really see it. Back in 1920 when the original owner of the flower shop John Heinl passed away, his dog followed shortly after and his body was put in the same tomb with his master. The story goes that you could hear the dog barking in the cementary at night, and other stange things would happen. Well after all these years the flower shop has put together it's history that covers 147 years and show the start of the city itself. Heinl's was the second established business in Terre Haute and is still operating in the building that was built in 1901. It really worth a stop in Terre Haute to see this 89 year old legend.

About 2+ hours N of Atlanta is the small town of Franklin, NC. Each year in October on the last Saturday (which happens to be the 24th this year) the town holds a festival known as Pumpkinfest. This event has been going on for several years now and draws substantial crowds. The most cherished event might possibly be the pumpkin roll, which contestants choose their own pumpkin, and proceed to compete in rolling it down Phillips St., a/k/a Frogtown. Other venues include arts/crafts from local mountain artisans, food venues, music venues, and other contests. What a competitor Rob would be in the Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest. More information will be available soon! Rob, drive a short distance north and enjoy the events/activities this fun day/town has to offer!

Come see the Old Order Amish settlement in Northeast Ohio. The 4th largest in the world, and one of the most "non-Touristy". The Amish here are well integrated into the local community. This is a fascinating view of life where farming is done with a team of horses and power is generated by farm windmill. Through the local area, transportation is by horse and buggy. Women are canning peaches and beans this week. Men are thrashing grain for livestock feed and saving straw for bedding – using a unique blend of permitted machinery (a tractor engine that does not move) and hands-on methods.

Come get a close-up look. Go beyond the superficial ideas of Amish life. Northeast Ohio's Amish community offers a way to really know the Amish.

A visit to Heinl's Flower Shop would immediately serve your senses. We are at 129 So. 7th St., Terre Haute, Indiana. It is the home of Stiffy Green.. An Indiana Legend. It is, as far as we have been able to find, the oldest flower shop in the midwest. It was established in 1863!!!!
Abraham Lincoln was President! John Heinl was family to Eugene V. Debs and John was instrumental in developing and starting the Chamber of Commerce here in Terre Haute. There is a lot of history here. We would love a visit in order to share with you.

Hey. Visit the hidden gem. Come to the small town Thorntown, Indiana and tour Sugar Creek Art Center on September 11, 2009 during the monthly art exhibit. September, experience Irish music, and food, and digital arts and paintings by local artist Lynn Dugan. http://www.duganarts.org Try hunting Indiana in digital collages where architecture plus kaliedoscopes equal archiscopes. Browse three floors of resident artist's working studios housed in a quaint old garment factory by viewing watercolor, fused glass, pottery, oils, mixed media, jewlery, wood turned bowls, permanent collections and puppets made by a ninety-two year old. Heart -warming moments fill the center when art touches cancer victims, or recent widow's lives. Visitors are amazed by the expanse of what is offered from art to classes in a small rural Indiana town at Sugar Creek Art Center. http://www.sugarcreekarts.org

The town offers old-time architecture, pottery fired in home-made earthen kiln at Unzinger's, the best onion rings, and catfifsh at Stookeys, a church bell that bongs on the hour, a history museum, a cozy Cottage gift shop/cafe, an untouched car repair shop filled with original merchandise of past generations. Stop by during the festival of Turning of the Leaves on September 26th to witness a parade, hear locals belt out tunes while you savor food, browse old cars, and get your face painted. http://www.thorntownfestival.org After all that fun, relax by walking the Keewasakee Trail.

Rob, my Grandmother was the best Irish cook in the world. She cooked everything from scratch and always used a cast-iron skillet to fry cornbread. I also have a seasoned cast-iron frying pan that I use to make the best homemade corn bread in. My frying pan has never seen soap or water. I only clean it with oil. Nothing sticks to it and EVERYTHING tastes great after being cooked in it.

Check out the car shows in Carlisle, PA. These shows are almost weekly during the summer focusing on specialty automotive events. The focus the weekend of August 30 is Corvettes. Major shows, more general in nature, are held each spring and fall ( Sept 30 – Aug 4) and draw tens of thousands of auto enthusiasts to our community. Carlisle Fairgrounds is jam-packed with vendors selling almost any automobile related product. These can range from antique cars and parts to modern performance related products. These are major events with folks coming from across the country. For more detailed info, see the producer's web site: http://www.carlisleproductions.com/ce/index.asp

Perhaps a show could be done at the small business administration’s office. I see at their web site there are grants and other programs to start a new business.
Small businesses make up the most jobs to be developed. If we are going to turn this economy around, we need to match winning new ideas with financing and mentors to expand our economy. I believe there are many people with good ideas but simply do not know how to sell those ideas to business.
Perhaps, while the show is done at the SBA office, the audience could ask questions through blogging and through the radio.

    Dear Rob,

My name is Garrison Roots and I am the Chair of the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Colorado in Boulder (always a fun place to visit). Currently we are putting the final touches on our new 180,000 square foot facility which will house the Department of Art and Art History and the CU Art Museum. This a very impressive Visual Arts Complex funded in large part with student money. Without a doubt this has to be one of the largest most imprssive public art facilities that a state, a university or even a campus has committed to in some time and will likely be the last for a while. And we are extremely proud that it is here in Colorado! Come take a look! Let me show you around and share with you and your viewers just how the important the arts are to our current cultural challeges. I'll even pay for the coffee! Check out the building at http://www.colorado.edu/arts/, specifically http://vaccam1.colorado.edu/view/view.shtml. This is an important and exciting opportunity that we would like to share with the world! We hope to see you soon!
