'Mad Men,' '30 Rock' top Emmy Awards

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) - After starting with 16 nominations, "Mad Men" won just three Emmy Awards at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night - but one of them was the big one, best drama series.

The AMC show about ad agency executives in early 1960s Manhattan often competed against itself, particularly in the category of episode writing, where it had four of the five possible nominations.
"Mad Men" also won best drama last year.

"We want to thank our friends at NBC ... for keeping us on the air, even though we are so much more expensive than a talk show," said star Tina Fey in accepting the honor.
Glenn Close won best actress in a drama for her performance in "Damages," but she turned her speech into praise for her colleagues.
"I want to salute what I call my 'category sisters,' " she said. "I respect you, and I'm inspired by your talent." She also paid tribute to the show's writers.

We are mad maybe because as a nation we are seeing that consumption for consumption sake lifestyle is probably ending. And there is nothing very satisfying (to them) to replace it. Hard work, conservation, sacrifice, HELPING one another. (GOD FORBID)
What do we do with oursleves every weekend if we don't go shopping? (the REAL opiate of the masses is shopping) The screamers are experienceing withdrawal is all..I am embarassed to see people screaming at "tea parties". My guess is If they could still go out and purchase what they thought they needed to be "happy". That HD TV that V8 with a gun rack...they would be just fine. But they can't and they are having a temper tantrum like a 5 year old. MAN UP...it's a new world. No we can't just BUY the illusion of happiness anymore. We have to really earn it...and it starts by helping each other at grass roots. And by getting off our couches and getting involved doing the real work to expose and remove the corporate shills "wrapped in the robes of legal sanction.." (FDR 1936 acceptance speech) Actually FORECE the return to rhe "rule of law" that was promised rather than LIP service we seem to be getting.
More concerned than mad. Whatever happened to respect of others beliefs? I would rather hear directly from our president on issues such as health care and certainly when He and His Administration is being misrepresented he needs to speak up. He should be the one taking on the questions and getting out the correct message. The press owes the public more in depth investigating reporting. If our President is lying about issues, surely fact finding by investigating what is actually the truth and who is telling us the truth would be more beneficial. Back and forth comments just stir up the waters. Nothing is clear. Just how hard can that be? I believe that our public representatives would all be more careful of what they say, if held accountable. Sundays talk shows are a good example. Each side paints a different slant and then their "comments" are the only thing discussed for the next week. Fact finding discussions during the following week would be more productive and HONEST. Who is telling the truth. I do enjoy watching your fact finding but not everyone sees this show. Especially in my neighborhood I am surrounded by people who only watch the Fox network. I can't even call them a news channel. They (Fox) really should be made accountable for what they report and how they report the news. Or are they really the only news station that is reporting the truth??? (kidding). Hold them accountable, if the other networks don't hold them into account and require them to report the news FAIR and Balanced who will? I watch CNN, MSNBC and Fox to get my information. The extremist are getting a foot hold on our nation. Truth will be the only way to tame them down. (PS people around here still believe that our President was not born in the U.S............)
America is not mad as hell because The President is doing bad or pushing a helalth plan for Americans, all Americans and Not BLACK people. America is mad because a BLACK man is in charge. It is not mentioned but the world can read through the reports and the reaction of the Republican Party. The people who are complaing the most are the ones who diidn't vote for President Obama. The President is in the house for only a mere 8 months and he is being blamed for everything that Bush left on the table. These polls that is coming out , Who are you guys polling??? I got a call sometime ago regarting these polls and when they found out I am a Democrat the phone line went dead. The Media and their broadcasters are trying and is boosting their career off the President, some even call themself Fair and balanced" America is as Racist as can be and it is coming all out since President Obama became President. But as a black woman in America and for my black children, brothers and the President we always have to pay a price for any accomplishment.

I'm angry because we are a nation of sheep. We have stood back and done nothing and watched as the corporations have lowered our wages, increased the cost of any benefits we have had as a worker or eliminated them all together. There are no EEOC laws anymore to protect any class of worker. Our elected officials do not represent our interests, they are bought and paid for by large corporations. Reagan and Clinton set up a situation that allowed large multinational companies to take all of our jobs offshore. In the Bush years, the oil companies destroyed our economy by taking every last dime of lower income peoples disposable income, and literally shut down small business. The Obama administration is about to let the insurance companies and pharmaceutical industry do the same thing to us. Hello? We are going to get fined for not having insurance? They want to give to the insurance companies what is left in our wallet after the gas in the car has been paid for. We cant send an e-mail or make a cell phone call with our opinions without ending up on some hate group web-site, no matter what side of the fence we fall on. We have no privacy, we have no rights. It's not a free country when a government can tax anything that isn't a neccessity. Asian imports are poisoning us and our children. We are dumb sheep. Obama ran on change we can believe in. We believed him. He lied. All he did was switch the horrendous expense a large corporation collects from big oil to big insurance and pharmaceuticals. The government lies, the media swears to it. There is no free press, you have no integrity. You guys are a mouthpiece for their brainwashing. I'm a pacifist. I stand back and watch. I do my job and send my e-mails to my elected officials that don't listen to me or anyone else. We do not live in a democracy, we live in a wholly owned subsidiary of the pharmaceutical manufacturers and oil companies. The company store is starving us and the government is enforcing their right to do it and that is why we are angry. Just keep smiling guys, you still have your job.
Much of the negativity aimed at our President is coming from the percentage of people who did not vote for President O'bama. They were the radicals among us, and now are acting out their radical, and sometimes racial tendencies. They are also being stoked and further brain washed by radical right talk radio. When you cannot yell "fire" in a crowded theater, I also believe there should be restrictions on what you can say in the media to incite violence! Sure, people are hurting today because of joblessness, but President O'Bama has been in office less than a year. You can not right all the wrongs done in 8 yrs. in just one. Let's give him a chance!! And we do need Health Care Reform "with' competition to the Insurance Cos., in whatever form that will work best! Thank you for this forum.

made by residents of thee community, both Republican and Democrats/
The people are not really mad , but disgusted. They feel that the Congress is not accomplishing their responsibilities as legislators, but are merely playing political gamesmanship. I also hear that people believe that the Congressmen are so indebted to the lobbyists that any legislation put forward will not be in the interest of the people they serve.
Unfortunately this animosity toward Congress and their inability to perform is being redirected at the President , when the real enemy is the Legislature.

YES I am MAD! The reason. I have been unemployed since June 6, 1992. Re-Training program are and were a BAD JOKE. The ONLY re-training I was offered was in the health care industry or as I call it the PAIN and ANXIETY industry. My training was as a Electronics Technician. I had no desire to work in Pain and ANXIETY 17 years ago. I have not desire to worf in that field TODAY. I worked at a Television factory and I loved my job BUT the leaders of MY COUNTRY on BOTH side thought a Mexican worker need the job I had more than I did . They could not hold the jobs which have now moved to the FAR EAST. We are now living the fruits of NAFTA and Free,NOT FAIR, trade.

The public is not only upset with the government ( the president and congress). We are upset with the media whom is no longer reporting all the facts. It does seem to everyone the media is dividing the country with there agenda reporting. CNN should and could help by reporting facts not injecting opinion into the news.
I had to smile at the comment on Carol`s story on anger in America. A lady said that someone had to take us back to where we were were 40 years ago. Do the math. That would be back to 1969. Is that what we want? I recall 1969 as rather challenging for America, also.
