Suburb wants Gadhafi's tent taken down

NEW YORK (CNN) - The town of Bedford, New York, is not happy with a tent set up as part of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's visit to the United States for the United Nations General Assembly, a town attorney said Tuesday.

"I discussed this matter with town officials, and the town building inspector believes that this would constitute a violation of several town zoning and land use laws," Bedford town attorney Joel Sachs said. "I directed the town building inspector to immediately go to the property and issue a stop work order, which would the individuals to cease erecting the tent."

Sachs said if he had to he would take the issue to a higher court to get the tent taken down.

New York state Sen. Vincent Liebell confirmed to CNN affiliate WABC that Gadhafi had rented the property.

"He's not going to have many fans in Bedford or Westchester County, certainly not me," the senator said. "There's not going to be any welcome mat for him in Bedford."

The property is owned by the Trump Organization, which said in a statement: "We have business partners and associates all over the world. The property was leased on a short-term basis to Middle Eastern partners, who may or may not have a relationship to Mr. Gadhafi. We are looking into the matter."

We should be ashamed of this child like behavior displayed by the citizen of a rich and grate nation toward leaders of the world who gathered to address the ailments and the danger facing the nations of this earth and hoping to amend present and stop future mistakes threw dialogs in a civilized manner. Give peace a chance.

How is it that someone in Libya is found guilty for the Lockerbie bombing and we direct our hatred at the leader of that country ? And Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon was found guilty by the world court in the Hague for the Sabra and Shatilla murders, yet we welcome him with open arms and allow him unrestricted access to the white house at any hour. Ariel Sharon also said in a cabinet meeting that Clinton, Bush and the American government doesn't control America but the Israeli people do. Have we forgotten about this butcher so quickly ? All this happened after the Lockerbie bombing.

The tent is temporary. Let's leave him alone and discuss something more substantial. He's not hurting anyone.

    He is a foreign diplomat.
Show some American good will. We are not at war, we as americans have no beef with him. He has a great fear of elevators and will not get in one, so hotels are pretty much out.

    Let him have the tent.

    To alan scouten:
Actually, building codes regulate structures that are permanent or semi-permanent, as opposed to a "garden party" where one would be dismantling the tent within 24 or 48 hours.
As opposed to the war exercises off the Libyan coast being a "deliberate provocation", I would say that yes that is a possiblity. However the Lockerbie bombing was a fact, not a possibility, and those individuals were convicted in a court of law due to a preponderance of evidence against them. How is this an occurrence of people being "allowed" to hear only one thing?

Really heath? You posted your home phone number? I was able to find your address and your family's names with that information.

You might want to be a little more careful about that.

So why can´t Gaddafi stay in a hotel like the rest of the people? Can you imagine if we decided to park a caravan wherever in Libya?

    Donald Trump –
"The property was leased on a short-term basis to Middle Eastern partners, who may or may not have a relationship to Mr. Gadhafi. We are looking into the matter.”

Gadahfi tried to lease several apartments/buildings in New York and was turned down!

How is it that Donald Trump Organization – did not know who was leasing his land?

Gadahfi "snubbed his nose" at America
    – when he planned or allowed a Hero's Welcome for the bomber that killed so many Americans.

So, I am glad that people have treated Gadafhi like the Criminal-supporter and Terroist supporter that he really is.

Stand up Mr. Trump! "looking into the matter" should have happened "before" the desert tent was put up on American Soil!

Heidi's comments filter the facts in the Lockerbie bombing case and in the case of the US attacks on Libya. In one attack Kahafi's child was killed. War exercises off the Libyan coast were a deliberate provocation. It is likely that it was Iranians, not Libyans who brought down the plane in Scotland. Please, reporting, not propoganda. As for the tent, what "building codes", Bedford? Were a garden party planned for the same backyard, tents would be everywhere. No wonder public opinion is so biased. It hears what it is allowed to hear. Shame.
