I had to laugh too...I went through basic training back in 1985 at Ft. Leonardwood and it was good to see that the newest recruits gets the gas chamber drill too. This is something that I will never forget. I know we laughed our butts off as we watched our buddies coming out the other end and then heard them laugh at us when we came out.
What a time!
It used to be fun to go to the IET chamber during free time pre-deployment to go into the chamber with recruits and not wear a mask. We would tell them it's no big deal, and the gas doesn't bother you – and after enough exposures you do get used to it – and then watch when they took their masks off, thinking it would just smell really strongly of pepper.
Ah, good times, good times. What a trip down memory lane. 🙂
Oh the gas chamber...the worst experience of my military time. I'll NEVER forgot that day. We were the last squad of the day and the Drill Sgt.s didn't want to turn in the CS tabs and they ended up using the remaining supply for the day on us. DI said take your helmets off and one guy took it and his mask off. He bounced around as if he was having a seizure. Thought, oh God, this is what we'll all be doing in about 1 minute.
I remember doing this in my Army basic combat training at Fort Knox back in 2003. Between the chest heaves, flowing sinuses, and burning eyes and mouth, I felt like I was about to die. That said, I had a blast in BCT. Wouldn't want to do it again, but it definately was a special moment in my life.
Wow this brings back memories!! LOL I remember when I had this done I actually didnt mind so much it cleared my stuffy nose out real good. I simply blew my nose and I could breath again!! LOL

Yep, CS is great for sinus troubles.
