Al Qaeda 'safe haven' in Yemen

U.S. officials are looking at the Middle Eastern nation of Yemen, worried that it's becoming the new hub for terrorists and extremists.

Located in the center of the region, more and more terror suspects and insurgent attacks can be linked to this one nation, including the Christmas incident. Our Barbara Starr reports in this American Morning original.

Maybe if Mr. O goes to Yemen and meets with the bad guys he can give them a warm fuzzy feeling and go away and let us alone......NOT

Sure...Yemen now. They just move from the country in which we give them grief and move to another country that is hungry for any kind of economic impact. Al Qaeda certainly has a potent financial network behind the scenes, which is as much their strength as their extremist religious dogma that motivates devout muslims to sacrifice their lives to defeat the "Great Satan" that is the USA.

When we go to Yemen, they will move into Nigeria, where a significant portion of their funding is sourced from scams against USA consumers, which is seen as nearly equivalent to scarificing one's life against the enemy. If you can take money from the enemy, a good extremist muslim simple strengthens their cause. Hundred of millions of dollars flow from Nigerian scams against US consumers, as well as pervasive counterfeit operations (cash, money orders, cashiers checks...etc)

After that, they will move into Congo, or Ivory Coast, or back to Sudan. Anywhere there is poverty and pestulence, they will be welcome, and have fertile soil for cultivating their recruits and soldiers. After all, people like that need something to live for, and have very little to lose.

It will be a never ending war, and we need to accept that this will be an ongoing way of life in our freedom based society, degrading our freedoms in the interest of our own national security, and ultimately providing a victory for the enemy.

We will not lose the war on the battlefront, but on the ground of our personal liberties and freedom, which is ultimately what they want to destroy. No matter the battles we might win as we strike down their leader with our cruise missles and aerial drones, and even our fearless and brave soldiers...they still win as must constantly infringe on the freedoms we hold dear, simply to protect ourselves.

I do not have a solution, but this seems to clearly be a battle we will never win, but nonetheless must never stop fighting.

Have you ever read our constitution? If you would you would realize that the procedures you suggest not only compromise many of our ideals, but contradict them entirely. Moreover, you reveal an ignorance of these "lists" you mention. Half a million American residents, citizen and legal resident, are on a "watch list" meaning that they are suspect, for one reason or another, but that there is no actionable evidence against them. That is to say the government thinks they are suspicious for no concrete reason. You honestly believe that these people should have no rights? THAT is truly un-American.

The TAPI Pipeline will run from Turkmanistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan into India. We are fighting for 4 trillion worth of natural gas. NOT THE FAKE WAR ON TERROR THAT THE CIA MADE UP... Read the Grand Chessboard people. It's all the counsel on foreign relations people. THE CFR IS OUR REAL GOVERNMENT.

WAKE UP WE DO NOT LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY!! These people are taking away our freedoms in the name of false flag operational terror!

US Military men and women are dieing every day. For what? think about it? This dictatorship will follow on with what Bush did. NO differance in the failing two party system.

    God help us all.

    Hey CNN,

I have invested many years in the active duty military in order to keep my people and country safe. I'm finally waking up and realizing what is going on in the world. (It sadens me) The media is all controlled by the wall street bankers. How about you guys do a real story on say the Bilderberg group and how Obama and Clinton were supposedly meeting at Finstiens house. How about doing some real investigative journalism. (Youtube Obama secret meeting) Also google Bilderberg group and you will realize they met June 5-8, 2008. Oh while your at it why don't you tell the American people about the TAPI pipeline that they will start building early 2010. It will go right through the Helmand province where my unit will be... You people are brain washed!!! By the corporate run media. WAKE UP!!!

Ditto concerned ............... Obama needs to be a leader and pay absolutely no attention to other countries opinions. Obviously we should always hear our allies opinions, but always do whats best for the USA first! Adhere to the constitution and do the right thing.

Since you can't reason with or talk to these ignorant brainwashed bast-ards, you simply have to kill them.....wherever and whenever you can! Hey you moronic liberals out there.....still concerned about the Gitmo treatment of these losers......are they getting their prayer mats and Islamic dietary they face and pray to Mecca? Give me a break....the U.S. should have dumped their sorry as-ses out over the Atlantic 8 years ago on the trip over here....that would have saved lots of time and money now wouldn't it !! Screw these dick-heads and their dilapidated homelands.....these psychos got up on the wrong side of the bed....if only the Crusades could have been a little bit more thorough huh?

Take all the bombers that can be gathered and load them up with as much hardware they can carry, go and level this country. Give those who are the 'innocent's" time to get out.....and start levelling this country.
Next got to the Pakistan border and create a "grand canyon' between them and Afghanistan, drop enough bombs that no one and I mean no one will enter that country.

They hire the Mossad to go in and clean out the ringleaders of Al Quada....end of terror.

With Obama calling the shots I am sure they are safe and will multiply. Obama is weak on defense, indecisive & unwilling to make the hard call on being proactive against terrorism. I believe our enemies view him as a weak leader who reactive as long as it it politically correct. Obama has been in office 1 year and has done nothing proactive (besides a few drones here and there in Pakistan)
to send a strong message that the US will not tolerate terrorism. He won't even use the word "terrorism". He should take off the gloves and look out for the good old USA with disregard for other countries thoughts! Iran, Russia, Yemen, Pakistan, etc. all test Obama and I believe that like the results of his inept reactions and meaningless tele-promted speeches.

Still questioning George Bush and Dick Cheney's decision not to let Special Operations strike and kill Osama Bin laden when they had him in their sights. And what's wrong with hitting them twice ? Once when they catch them in their meetings and a second time when they congregate at the first site for their Pep Rallies ??

"Safe Haven" my rear! To our President. BOMB, BOMB, BOMB!! And I do not want to hear any sob stories about it being wrong! If you are against any policy or action to kill these animals then you are anti-american and should be locked up! Anyone that tries to kill/blow up your family, kids, babies, have NO rights!

I strongly feel that anyone who makes the Homeland Security list should be DENIED total travel in the USA and forfeit their rights! Get off our ships! Get off our planes! Get off our land! Why wait until they act out? The question is NOT if they will act out but, WHEN and to what extend will our citizens and Country be in jeopardy? Anyone who willingly associates with these psychopaths does it of their own free will and should answer for it! BLACKLIST them. Period. End. No waiting! Anyone who gets on that list should have NO RIGHTS! The time of “wait and see” is over and done with now is time for ACTION! We were lucky this time….

Yes Yemen is becoming more and more extremist and it should be known that al Qaeda will most likely be the controlling force when all is said and done! I'm sure Yemen's government which has it's own extremist views will not be able to stop the more extremist views of al Qaeda!
