A pregnant mom goes into labor and her heart stops beating. Doctors remove her baby by cesarean and he too appears dead. But miraculously, they both come back to life.
It's being called a Christmas Eve miracle, and a medical mystery. Our Tom Foreman has the report.

Janie–Everything that happened here has a scientific explanation and shouldn't depend on Dr. Gupta's ability to explain it to us. Do we need a doctor to pinpoint every reason these two survived? I can think of better things for our doctors to do.
Believer- Yes, of course you're entitled to your opinion, but don't let religion teach you to be satisfied with non-explanations. You're not in heaven yet, you live in an evidence-based world and for it to function on a daily basis anywhere, things must be explained.
This is one of the big problems in the US today and with religion in general. Every time something like this happens the religious start crediting god for the good outcome because they can't explain it. It's this kind of thinking that had people believing the world was flat long a after many knew better. More recently, that a prominent lesbian was responsible for Hurricane Katrina. Many of these nuts probably sent their money to Jimmy Swaggart, Oral Roberts or one of these other frauds.
There is no use arguing with people like this, they will probably come up with some bible quote. They probably don't even know when the bible was written and the role of Constantine in Christianity. All they know is that the lord works in mysterious ways. Sorry, I forgot that. That explains it.
I have a post graduate science degree with extensive study in anesthesia. I like Dr. Gupta too but, he is not an expert in anesthesia and he never said this was a miricle.
I think we are arguing about technicalities, when in spirit the underlying actions are the same. Fact: the mother and baby died, or had no pulse and heartbeat for a short period of time. Fact, they regained heartbeats and are alive. Yes, the doctors assisted. Did they come back to life because of medical intervention that can or can not be explained, is irrelevant. They survived because it was the will of God for them to survive. I know that there are non-believers out there rolling their eyes. You are entitled to your opinion, as I am mine. Whether we can or can not explain it scientifically or medically does not take away from the fact, that their survival was due to God's will....whatever word you use, medical explanations or not, miracle or not. God bless.
One of the less-mentioned side effects of an epidural is that the flow of medication moves upward, slowly paralyzing the muscles of the circulatory system. Interesting. One-in-a-million. The positive here is that both lived. Many times, when this happens, both die.
I agree with Rickin.. scientific explanations should be the focus, but some reports on this story are almost creative writing. It is not up to the news media to decide what is a miracle/what isn't so things should never be reported that way. It would be a perfectly fine feel-good story anyway! However, I don't think it's a bad thing to say "It's being called a Christmas Eve miracle" when so many people ARE saying that.
Keep, Keep, Keep airing this story. We need to hear good things in the news. We are inundated with reports of dismal news and to hear one like this is quite refreshing. While RickinMo may be convinced that this was not a miracle, I am not sure it was NOT a miracle. Expecially afterr listening to Dr. Sanja Gupta's objective on what may have transpired, after he looked into everything concerning this event. Sorry, but the word of a Dr. trumps the word of a healthcare worker who has not entered his position in his e-mail. Am clear that Dr. Gupta did not claim this to be a miracle. But, am convinced that he, a physician, could not explain (scientifically) everything.
Stop, Stop, Stop airing this story on CNN and presenting it as a miracle. There are scientific explanations for what happened here. I work in healthcare and have found so many exaggerations and misstatements in this story that it makes me wonder if anything reported is accurate.
What else could you call it? Yes, the doctors were there giving aid, but it was also Christ who was there giving His blessings.
So to that, Merry Christmas. My hope is for the family to have a Blessed New Year.
A side note; the boy who was brutally burned in Florida, tell the family to keep the "Faith" and pray to the Blessed Mother to ask Her Son, Jesus Christ to heal their child.
