Editor's Note: American Morning's Tuesday audience commented on Mark McGwire publicly acknowledging and apologizing for his past use of steroids. While the majority viewed McGwire as a “cheater,” others defended his use of the performance-enhancing drugs as nothing more than another method of “improving his heath.”
JC: Maybe people also should think about all the high school and college kids that have died taking steroids trying to emulate their athletic hero's.
Carl: You ask what we think of McGuire and steroids. I think he is a very dishonesty person and should not be given the job as hitting coach for St Louis. He lied to Congress I think but do not remember for sure.
Michael: I just wanted to say how many hypocrites are out there who are calling Mark McGwire a "cheater" for trying to improve his health in order to play via unnatural methods. No one cries cheater when athletes use cortizone shots to be able to play through an injury or what about lasik surgery in order to improve ones vision? It's unfair to Mark to discount all his accomplishments because he was injecting testosterone instead of cortizone.
Now that Mark McGwire has revealed his use of steroids, what is your opinion of him? Were the drugs just a way to “improve his health” as one viewer contends, or was he “cheating”? Continue the conversation below.

Using a drug to treat an injury or getting lasik surgery is far, far away from pumping yourself up with performance enhancing drugs. There is no comparison with trying to and correct a natural occurring life event to get it back to NORMAL. Steriods are used for legitimate medical conditions. Playing baseball is not one of them. I think of all the great palyers from the past that did not, (at least to our knowledge), need steroids. Almost all contemporary players who have broken long standing records have used steroids. How could anyone who would agree that putting some foreign substance on a baseball to make it do abnormal things could think putting some foreign substance in your body is any less wrong? Am I supposed to forgive and forget after he LIED to the fans and Congress? He's made his money so what does he care now? What a way to go down in history, a so-so ball player who had to illegally use drugs to enhance his performance, lied about it, and then comes clean about it thinking that makes it all OK. I say strip him of all his titles, accomplishments, awards, and ban him from baseball.
Last nite on Fox, O'Reilly made a comment to Sarah Palin – saying "Sarah, you're a hockey mom, you're an American, where's the threat?" regarding people's negative reactions to her. My question is, would he have said to Hitler "Adolf, You're a painter, you're a short fellow, you're a war veteran, where's the threat?"
I was in California for the 1989 earthquake and I was in Haiti three months ago. I have yet to hear a report that adequately describes the type of total destruction that will be revealed in the morning. Haiti is completely unequipped to handle a disaster of this size. My husband is there and, thank God, he is safe. However, even as the Chief of Quality Assurance for MINUSTAH aviation division, he is without food and water and is sleeping in his car tonight.
President Obama has done the best thing by imposing a tax on Financial Institutions.
