Haiti contributions deductible on 2009 taxes

There is some good news today from Congress concerning your contributions to the relief effort in Haiti.

A new Senate bill allows you to deduct those donations during this tax season, instead of having to wait for next year. Our Gerri Willis has the details.

My comment concerns the discussion on where your money goes for charities for Haiti. During the broadcast one of the reporters said that the only way to insure your money goes completely to Haiti is to physically take it down there yourself. I have to say that even if you do that, 100% of your contribution will not go directly to Haiti. You have to deduct what you spent on travel, time off work, meals and other expenses encored along the way. Just saying! Too many people are focused on how much is deducted from their contribution for overhead or administration fees. Of course it costs money to get the donations to where they are needed. Wake up people. If you want to help than donate or volunteer. PERIOD.
