Nairobi, Kenya (CNN) - The villagers' faces light up as Evans Wadongo arrives. Men, women and children sing and gather around as he shows how his invention - a solar-powered LED lantern - will soon light up their homes.
"These families, they are so poor. They don't have electricity," said Wadongo, a native of rural Kenya. "It's only kerosene and firewood that they use for lighting, cooking.
"The amount of money that every household uses to buy kerosene every day - if they can just save that money, they can be able to buy food."
Wadongo, 23, not only is giving his country's rural families a way to replace the smoky kerosene and firelight with solar power, he says he also hopes his invention will ultimately improve education and reduce poverty and hunger. And he's providing it for free. FULL STORY

How can I contact this man? I would like to help.
Yes the rich give to charities but they also write it off on their taxes so it is the taxpayer who is really helping the charities that the rich give to! I'm talking about actually going out of your way to help the poor so the poor can enjoy life as they do! The rich should go into the poorest part of the cities and literally help the poor so they don't have to worry about how to feed their families! This is what Evans is doing in his country. Where are the people like Evans in America who go out of their way to help the poor?
Why not print my comment? Do you think that we have people like Evans here that would work for the poor without receiving any compensation to help them get through life? If so they are few and far in between!
This man is a great man with not a greedy bone in his body. We need more people in the world like him who is not concerned with making money but just to help the poor. There should be more Americans like him that cares more for the poor than his own profits. Maybe then we really could become the nation of equality instead of a nation of people who only care for their own profits and wealth so they can have pride in what they worked for and not have a care for people who are without!
