General challenges Obama on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

(CNN) – A three-star Army general is feeling the heat from his superiors after publicly challenging the president on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," saying a repeal of the military policy on gays would be "ill-advised."

So is there a price to be paid for breaking ranks with the commander-in-chief on this controversial issue? Our Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr has the report.

I continue to wait to see if my group (retired but paying mortgages) will be addressed by the media or Obama. We are a group of retirees who through no fault of their own are now saddled with upside down mortgages. We have no income per se, yet we continue to pay our mortgages. However, this situation is not sustainable. Our dream houses that we moved into in 2005 are now dead weights bearing down on us. Our plans to enjoy the homes of our dreams and then to move on are now only dreams. Where do we fit in? We did everything right. We played by the rules and now we are cast out like bad pennies. Obama, where is our help?

Thank you CNN for showing this. I am/was under the impression you are showing (mostly liberal) biased reports. This is a good example illustrating both sides – proponents/opponents of the "gay in the military" subject.

why does a General that speaks out about a policy is being scutinized but the chairman of the JCS gives his opinion on the subject on national tv and nothing is said. So if you agree, then no problem but if you disagree your a traitor. The General was commenting on a policy and not criticizing the president. If the the JCS is not wrong than neither is any high ranking official just because the disagree witht the policy. leave the policy alone, unless you are a part of the military everyday, then you just need to stay out of it.

Got to say my time and views are out of step with most. But I think we need mandatory government service (the draft). End issue of gays if everyone male and female had to serve. Two, get rid of the fatties with to much salt or fat or whatever, they would get in shape and everyone can get off my back about what I put in my mouth. Might help with porn, lump all sexes together and the wonderment might decrease (sextesting – FOX). Lastly those parent who do not want to discipline their kids can turn it over to the government (can't you just imagine a drill sgt giving johnny or jane a time out?). Oh, for those in the left who do not was precious in the military, opt out for double time period in public works, bridges and infrastructure repair.

I am retired and I have not seen one comment on your news about retired people whose houses are underwater through no fault of our own. Where do we get relief? Where do we fit in? Why have YOU not touched this part of the issue? Is it because there is no answer and you are not sure how to report this? Please, don't let us fall through the cracks. Give us the same exposure that you give everyone else. Just remember, YOU will be retired one day and what goes around comes around.
