(CNN) – The 2010 New York Auto Show kicks off tomorrow and the folks at General Motors are hoping everyone gets all charged up over the new Chevy Volt. The electric car is set to hit showrooms later this year.
The Volt first debuted as a concept car in the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. Bob Lutz, retiring vice chairman of General Motors, joined us on Tuesday's American Morning to show off the final product.
One has to look at the total cost of ownership. The Volt should get a $7,500 rebate to help with purchase. Over 7 years of ownership, the Volt will use a fraction of the gasoline used by the Prius. 78% of drivers will be able to commute on pure electric using no gasoline..
After watching your video the new GM Volt, i find it hard to believe that GM still thinks that the sticker price should be in the neighborhood of $ 40,000 dollars. With the price of a Prius at around $ 23,000 it would be very difficult to shell out another $ 17,000 dollars. GM should just stick to improving their current fleet of vehicles quality.
