Who is the future of the GOP?
(CNN) – Republicans rallied the troops this weekend at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.
Some of the GOP's biggest names fired up the faithful in New Orleans, giving us an early indication of who could be at the top of the ticket in 2012.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney defeated Texas Rep. Ron Paul by a single vote in the conference's 2012 straw poll on Saturday.
Romney did not appear at the New Orleans conference, but received 439 votes - or 24 percent - of the 1,806 ballots cast by delegates at the conference. Paul earned 438 votes.
Our Jim Acosta will have the report and we'll be joined by Rep. Ron Paul who will share his thoughts on the future of the GOP. Read more

Is this a sign Mitt Romney is washed up as a politician, when Mitt can only beat Ron Paul with one single vote. Sounds to me like the GOP is not as stable as their constituents are babbling they are and November could be a tough time for them.
Why does it seem since the government has taken over GM that Toyota the top selling car in the US has been attacked mercilessly.
Is this a plot by the powers that be to get them out of the way and get GM back on top and recover the money they loaned GM.
Why does the media continue to fuel the whole racism issue ? A huge mistake by many was to begin labeling Americans as African Americans, Mexican Americans, Japanese Americans etc.
I firmly believe that if you are an American Citizen, then you are just that, an American Citizen.
If the media insists on these labels, then why dont you acknowledge German American, Polish American, Swedish American etc. And as far as the Confederate flag, get over it, it is a part of American history (like it or not). Our history books have been altered and continued to be re-written just so somebody’s feelings don’t get hurt. Enough is enough.
Ralphy.... and the Democrats are different HOW?... You need a history lesson or two.
Watch what happens this fall. The American people will speak up and boot the Democrats out. and Obama will go in 2012.
Attachment disorder is an extremely rare phenomenon. More often fetal alcohol exposure is the problem. We adopted an older child partly because we believe it is easier to determine if the child shows any symptoms of fetal alcohol exposure than with an infant.
People too often panic and confuse normal adjustment with this rare disorder. There are also some controversial treatments out there that need scrutiny and need to stop overselling and overanalyzing.
People go internationally to adopt for many reasons. There are more children who need homes for one thing and fewer resources for them. The need is great. Adoption is the only hope for many children. In Russia kids are turned out as young teens to fend for themselves. Some 70% don't survive.
Some adoptive parents like that ocean of space to insure that their adoption is secure. Many don't trust the American court system where biological ties are valued over adoptive ones and the biased news stories that show horror stories not the successful ones.
Melon seems to be having a bad day. The fact is that the Republicans are very divisive and want only to see the Dems fail. Most of our current problems are due to the Republicans and the idiots who follow that philosophy. These people want to vote for aomeone who they can identify with. That means morons like Reagan, Bush jr., and Sarah Palin. We finally get someone intelligent in the office and they freak out. I think it's great the Republicans are moving more to the right. The dems will easily retain control of both house's this fall!
Don: Here is one perspective. After going through years of infertility treatment that resulted in no children and seeing friends adopt domestically with a result of the birthparents changing their minds at the last minute and keeping their child OR open adoptions where the birthparents are way too involved in the child's life for the comfort of the adoptive parents (I've seen it all), many parents want a sure thing. International adoptions tend to be more of a sure thing.
Also, the waiting time for a domestic adoption are notoriously long, unless you are adopting an older child or a special-needs child. Most Americans who are looking to adopt want babies, so the waiting time can be excruciatingly long. International adoptions are generally much quicker.
Betty ... Maybe if the Russian adoption agency hadn't lied to the American mother about the child's mental health issues in the first place .... she wouldn't have gone through with it.
The GOP has no future, there's no room for hate, greed, and selfishness in this Country.
How many Russian families have adopted American orphans?
Why aren't people adopting here in the US instead of going overseas?
RE: Mall Shooting I agree Jennifer, My 8 year olds class is going on a field trip this week to a mall, thinking about keeping her home that day! Sad to want to do that but it is scary
I think it is an outrage that any parent, adopted or not would put a seven year old child on a 10-hour flight. by himself. He is NOT some disposal baggage that she can return at will. She made a commitment as a mother to that little boy when she adopted him. Shame on her!!. She should have sought treatment for him if she felt he had emotional problems. Does she have other children? If so, what does she do to them when she has problems with them? Does she want to ship them off someplace as well? It sounds like that entire family has emotional problems and should seek counseling.
I live in Utah, have worked at the Juvenile Detention Center and during my tenure at the Center there was a young adopted Russian boy there because his adopted parents didn't want him. Now he is an award to the State of Utah. What's up people, children are NOT baggage that you can just toss out like garbage. Shame,,,Shame
I wish Americans would take a stand learn to think for themselves and quit being led around by their noses by a pack of corrupt career politicians from both parties.
Stop listening to biased propaganda from either side.
In a typical adoption situation, the Tennessee family's action are reprehensible. But when the deck is stacked against you, life can be a trial everyday...attachment disorder with adoption is not uncommon, it is difficult at best. Then multiply those challenges with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and being prepared for the challenges of adoption quickly becomes inadequate. FASD is a daily trial by fire, there is no such thing as a quiet, boring day. Everything becomes a serious issue because of neuro-regulatory disorders (that included behavior, temperment, emotion, activity level, sensory input reactions....etc.) If you haven't lived with a child whose every moment is not typical because of FASD, you cannot begin to imagine the difference. There is not enough love in any parent's heart to make the neorological damage of FASD to go away, not enough to give them a "normal" day. The cost of basic care, medication, therapy, and time investment is staggering just to maintain a balance. I'm talking in excess of $500 a month depending on severity of issues....no kidding.
FYI: these days FAS is called FASD because research shows the spectrum of issues is too complicated for the FAS term.
the dumbocraps will be blown away this november
and dingy harry reid will be the first to go
There are two sides of the coin with parents adopting internationally. There is help out there for those who seek it for their children. There are quite of a few International Adoption Clinics in the US where parents can seek help for their children's issues. The flip side, is when I adopted my son from Eastern Europe, there was NO follow up from the adoption agency after we came home. Fortunately I was familiar with the adoption community and knew where to look for help. If the adoptive parents are not-proactive in getting help with their children, there WILL be problems.
I have seen parents who have adopted from Eastern Europe (Russia, Bulgaria, Romania), who had to deal with the fact that their childrens' issues were not completely disclosed before they adopted them. Some have made it through their journey well, and some continue to have major struggles with their children.
This story is shocking, but if this family had sought help AND if their agency did proper follow-up care, I doubt we would be looking at an international scandal.
it is my understanding that many of the russian adoptees are problematic and hv serious mental problems and many of them come from drug addicted mothers- people are quick to condem this family but if you were in the situation you would be singing a different tune
Curtis .. you are exactly as you described the GOP to be.
Much of the mean spiritedness,in the country, now comes from the leadership,in the RNC.This stuff is allowed to go on because its really the good old boy way.In this country, its ok to hate and dis-respect,
black leadership, the reaction is called supremacy. This is why people like Palin,Hailey, and others within the RNC,can incite, hatred and basically it goes unchecked. The news media, seems to not have a clue when they interview these people on what the pulse of things are in this country. What happen to investigative reporting, reporting that challenges, these ratical and crazy groupongs. The media coverage seems to give these groupings, some kind of silent endorsement.
There were times in this country, when people like Farrahkan, were excluded from mainstream tele, now I personally never witness, him being as negatively inciteful,as these folk. And these people are given a green light. Why?Why because racism,is a not so well kept secret in this country. Then we have those haters say the american, people do not want this or nthat.Who are they referring too, certainly not all of america. But these crazy folk pased themselves off as being the majority.Go figure
Spo101.. you another one that needs a reality check.
The biggest loss of American jobs is NAFTA – which was forced on the country by the Democrats.
Deregulation of Wall St and the banking industry which led to the housing crisis – Bill Clinton.
Democrats always enjoying taxing people and increase the amount of the national debt by their give away programs.
Stop wasting your time and showing your bias by blaming the GOP for everything that is wrong and recongize that both parties are different wings of the same bird. People with your attitude is what is the most damaging to the country.
Ron Paul said, "Obama is NOT a socialist"(I like that). Conclusion, if he runs for President, he will run as an Independent. Furthermore, he is not neo-conservative enough to remain in the GOP. Somehow, he will be "purged".
Future of the GOP-
If all they have to offer is Sarah Palin, they are in deep, deep trouble.
go to the 90’s with Newt Gingrich/Tom Delay/Phil Gramm Republican’s. I wanted to ask the Grich about all the hidden legislation such as the “Expatriate Clause” in Clinton’s Family Leave bill. It allowed the super rich (multinational Corporations, Saudi royals, drug trafficers, etc) take their billions out of the country PENALTY FREE!
While President Clinton and the American PEOPLE were MISDIRECTED by a sell-out media, fake Christian morality and the famous Monica Lewinski ****… Newt oversaw legislation/policy that paved the way for loss of American jobs, off-shore tax evasion, media consolidation, predatory lending and a “Corporate Crime Wave” of EPIC proportions
While Republicans were waving the American flag and professing love of the USA, behind the scenes they were busy selling out our children’s future. Explain to me please Newt, what good can come from insuring the venture capital of Corporations that move American jobs to Communist China?
Why should Americans TRUST you or ANY Republican ever again? Why Republicans would want to celebrate the Confederacy is beyond me… they’ve already got a lost cause… their own Party…

I watch CNN every morning and I think it is the best...also don't know if you know about it but there was a shooting at the Muskogee,OK mall Saturday afternoon 1 dead and 5 others injured...it is a sad world when your scared to take your kids out anymore
Pauly ... you seriously need a reality check. The Democrats have inflicted more damage on the country than the GOP. It is blind people such as yourself that fail to see that BOTH parties serve only their own agendas.
The Russian adoption scandal is a mess. Kids are not merchandise that can be traded in or refunded. But there have to be safeguards that protect the adoptive parents and the child. The Russian political posturing is counterproductive.
The GOP has NO future!!! They have done everything in their power to prolong the damage they did while they controlled things!!! They want the President to fail so they can regain control. And they don't care if that means Americans will suffer!!!
John Doe .. why don't YOU step up to the plate .. and adopt the little boy and have him threaten your family.
*want
China.
Nuclear weapons.
Barack Obama.
Which is the biggest threat to the US?
Maybe the Russian Government shouldn't attempt to dump the children they don't on unsuspecting Americans looking to adopt a child.
Just like us to give up on a child, now the gandma, I don't care what she said, she's a quitter, nobody loves me nobody cares that's what that little boy is saying to him self, between 2 countries riding to no home no love, shameful, we must all hang our heads in shame, russia and usa!!
As a moderate that leans republican, I am sad that the future of the GOP is either Ron Paul, or Sarah Palin. Both lean in a direction I am not comfortable with. If I were advising the republican party, I'd tell them to put more moderate republicans in the forefront (so called Rhino's to the hyper-conservatives). They won't, and in turn, they won't win any major elections. Moderates like me don't like hyperconservatives.
Also, to your question to Ron Paul about how he feels about racism and names like "socialist" socialist being said at tea party rallies; People calling president Obama's policies "socialist" is VERY different than the ignorant trash calling United States senators the "N" word. One could easily argue that the government's need to control everything is indeed socialism.
Best wishes, watch the show every day.
Tell china 2 take a hike, sell r goods, until then tell them 2 make up there minds,we buy there crap by the truckloads. They don't buy anything of ours, now I ask u it this fair!! Thanks congress!
re: "China rising: Opportunity or threat?"
We got ourselves into a very bad position with China. By farming a large portion of American manufacturing to China, we've enjoyed very inexpensive (and remarkably good) Chinese products through the years.
Now the bad part: China has become America's largest creditor. What happens if China decides to call in its debts? Can we even think about that possible scenario? The better question is: how well has America managed its relationship with China?
Adoption is forever. There are many other alternatives to a family who is having problems. We adopted 2 sons from different Russian orphanages each at age 3 years and have raised 3 biological children to adulthood. All are the joys of our lives. America must do a better job educating and matching adoptive parents and children. Sure there are challenges but not insurmountable. Parents must not be afraid and most know that there are answers. The success stories of adoption must be told also. And those who sell services including the media must be held accountable not just scare people. These are children not used cars.
Adopting a child is not like buying a puppy. It is a serious, life long commitment . Others will comment on the international adoption process, etc.
I am sure this adoptive mother was at her wit's end. The point I wanted to make is that this story appears to reflect (once again) the lack of community mental health services and supports for mentally ill children and their families in this country, especially in more rural areas. If what we are hearing about the child's behavior is true, he obviously needed mental health treatment and services.
Did the family seek help in taking care of this child? I mean when a child is sick whether its physical or mental-You take him to a doctor and get help for him. Nowadays, you can't even adopt a pet without proving you can care for it. From the outside it seems theses people should be charged with child abandonment. I don't know the whole story, but my God the boy was seven-how can you just throw someone away? What's wrong with people in our country anymore? Where's the humanity? God help us all.
Regarding the Russian adoption gone wrong: the situation of the little boy being sent back is tragic – but I'm shocked to hear that so many Russian adoptions have gone wrong, including children who have died.
I'm wondering what Russia is doing to ensure that potential adoptive parents are qualified to have the children. As I watched your correspondent try to track down the family of the returned boy, it seems this family is flawed and should never have been allowed to adopt in the first place.
Thanks for your reporting on this
About the Russian boy who was sent on one way ticket to home, could it have been triggered by an insident that happened at my daughters school where a kid adopted from Russia came to school with a gun and threatened students. The boy had threatened to kill the adoptive parents and burn thier house too. this happened in Hastings middle school mn last week
Very suspicious of this Hansen family from Tennessee. For Americans, they seem remarkably reclusive and so far almost nothing about this family, what they do, or how or why this adoption occurred in the first place has emerged.
Constitution Law as it is worked out and applied to a global body. Development of National Constitutional Law important step towards implementation of global Law. The posturing and mindset involved an interesting procedure to watch.
Tiger has made a mistake or a couple of them, but life goes on. Now with what happened its between him and his wife the rest of us need to leave him alone, people r mad and upset but the public will forget or forgive the rest is up 2 tiger
It is too early to know who will be the front runner in the GOP.
I can't go with Mitt, that is for sure. Mitt endorses enhanced tortures, which has given America a black-eye world wide.
I read a piece on the blog below regarding Mitt and tortures.
Seems he would be bad for America.

China Rising...yes it will seem that it is....seen from some circles as a global birth and a child sometimes comes out jaundice(yellow) but that clears up soon after does it not.
Government, Industry, Finance, Academic, Military,Media, Religion(spirituality+ethics) and the People parts to that global child and a part by itself will not resolve or avoid a pending collapse.
The few are richer Christine as the many are now poorer for it. Smoke and mirrors to creative accounting has its consequences that are still unfolding.Chin a will rise as America.......
A letter to Toyota by their own workers was ignored and consequences followed did they not. Political leaderships should take this as a wake up call as well and I believe some already are.
The Master's was great.Tiger played, Phil won and a nice close match to keep all on the edge of their seats.
