Palin speech controversy
(CNN) – California Attorney General Jerry Brown is launching an investigation to find out how much a California state university foundation intends to pay Sarah Palin when the former Alaska governor speaks at a campus benefit in June.
The state wants to know why documents allegedly detailing Palin's upcoming visit were shredded and then thrown away.
There's still no word on what Palin is getting paid when she speaks in June, but the Associated Press is reporting Palin's contract requires two water bottles with bendable straws. And, if Palin must fly commercial to California the tickets should be first class, otherwise Palin requires a private lear jet 60 or a larger aircraft.
So far, Palin is not commenting on the details of the alleged contract
Does the American male need to be saved?
There is a "menaissance" going on. A return to rugged masculinity. As in, goodbye metrosexual, hello retrosexual.
That's not all. There is also a movement – albeit a small one – to introduce a new academic discipline in universities across the country: "Male studies."
All of these things are aiming to do one thing: Save the American male. Our Carol Costello has the story for you this morning.
Sound off: We want to hear from you this morning. Add your comments to the LIVE blog below and we'll read some of them on the show.

I think it's really about our culture becoming more and more androgynous, rather than feminizing men.
It's amazing how the republican party is trying to run the same election rejects for the 2012 election's to me that seems acidnine .
women control how men dress and look but a man can't tell a women how to look and dress it would be over.
i save a person's life befor and the only thing i can come up with is god which i dont believe in but listen i was at home in bed at about 11:00 pm in the middle of the winter and i don't know why but i got up and went out for a walk i smelled smoke and i turn the corner there's a fire a lot of people where already there so i thought what if someone's in there so i went in sho nuff there was a old lady i save her what a night.
March retail sales surge more than expected, February's are revised higher!!! The GOP will try to spin these numbers into something negative. the GOP denied we were in a recession & are now denying we're in a recovery. How can one party be so wrong all the time?
Watch it come out later .. that this James King is responsible for making the little girl "lost".
This is not about really being a retrosexual. It is about returning to manhood minus the chivalry. 'Bout time.
Maybe she's not a "World Leader", Mark, but a lot of people are buying her books and paying $500.00 per ticket to see her speak. Last time I checked, that was twice the going rate for a Streisand ticket, though I think Barb's private jet is a little more cushy than the ones that Sarah leases from time to time. The only difference is, I paid to hear music when I bought the Streisand tickets, and was disappointed that it seemed like some "greeny" political event. The backstage spectacle was even more politically charged, and quite funny in an ironic sort of way. Lots of limosine liberals out to save the world while sipping latte.
I do wish the music was a little better at the Palin events.
Tom W.
Finding this lost child was either an accident or else this guy needs to be scientificaly studied because what he is saying is a devine connection and we need to know more about his abilitys .
Just asd the Femininist movement swung to far to the point that being feminine or "girly" was a bad thing, and woment aht wanted to stay home and be a wife and mom were outcasts and not on the side of women, the metrosexual and emasculation of men has also gone too far, though increasing the nicer side and all of the postivies that have come from this we have also decreased in many ways the strength, drive and manlyness of men,, as women are still trying to find a balance between corporate, Mom, Feminine and strength, so too will the pendulum have to swing for men to find the balance between the two worlds.
women don't want equal rights they want to be in charge of everything now why would women want to be equal to men i bet every women would want her male partner to open the doors for her most women want a male partner to bring home the bacon thats the main role that men play in relationships the women runs the business and the men run the arrands
Americans adopting overseas needs to stop or made harder to force Americans to adopt American children .
Does the American male need to be saved? Probably. I blame Oprah, Martha Stewart and Harry Potter.
Why can't we all be more manly, like Donald Trump.
Why Frankie?.. Because he doesn't think bailouts should be the norm?
The better question would be ... why do you FAVOR spending taxpayers dollars on badly run companies? Not a taxpayer,eh?
Re NASA; We are all missing the point here, NASA, EPA,USDA,CDC, all need money, but no where in the past 9 years have I heard any one in Washington call for an investigation into our declining literacy rate, Our Children are undereducated, if we can't produce the next generation of experts it doesn't matter what kind of money we spend on space flight, disease control,or economic development,if we don't have anyone educated enough to know how to spend it
I don't understand how we can fund projects like NASA when so many people don't have jobs or homes and when our roads, bridges, water mains, sewer systems and power grids are falling apart . We need to invest in our country or we'll become a third world country.
i don't get what all the hype is about the little Russian boy it could have been much worst after all there were no lives lost
Mitch McConnell is the Representative of No
She's no different than any one else, Clinton, Bush, Carter all get big bucks for speaking engagements, the only difference is They were all world leaders, she's not.
What a refreshing story about Nadia!!!
It always seems that those stories about missing children never have a good outcome! Thanks so much for putting a "good news story" on when all we seem to hear about is disaster!
if you wactch TV count all the shaved and unshaved males i'm not going to be successful in life cause i have a beard
Women only want equal rights when they can pick and choose what they want equal rights on....for example when it comes to childern father(men) do not have equal rights there. Women say " i carried them for 9 mths " well the way i see it if you want to complain do it to God he made you that way. If women want equal rights they have to give equal rights
Pauly .. you should be concerned by the Americans that are transformed in lemmings by bright lights, whistles, bells and follow the pack that's being led around by their nose.
That is the true danger to the country.
I read that Sarah Palin is speaking at a university fund raiser, and is to be paid through the university foundation. So I would assume the money is coming then from private donations, and not from taxpayer dollars. So Jerry Brown shouldn't be concerned how much she is to be paid. And like her or not, if one cannot see this is politically motivated you are in denial. Jerry is paid from tax money, and is wasting his time investigating this. There is your tax dollars at work, California. People only attack when threatened. If Sarah was not a concern to the Democratic party, there would be no need to attack.
Any amount of money would be too much for this one-liner bimbo with no ideas and no clue what she is spewing.
Nothing wrong with being an opportunist when opportunity presents itself, but don't try to make her into some intellectual which is something she will never be unless someone writes her material for her. I don't even think she is capable of thinking.
Oh, and when she barks out one liner about the president, she should face the mirror first and confirm her lack of intellectual experience, lack of fortitude, and lack of commitment, I refer to her exiting her office as governor of Alaska to pursue the all-American dream of miss-information, lies and fabrications all for the all mighty buck!
I think she deserves more scruitiny and I hope that the media stops putting this idiot on a pedestal. Reminds me of the "Pied Piper".
I think it's about time someone stood up to the double standard known as women's studies. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but ten years ago if anyone mentioned the idea of men's studies, not only would he be laughed off by his fellow men, but women would accuse him of chauvinism (god bless spell check) and attacking feminism.
And for the record, I was raised by a conservative man, not a manly man, but my girlfriend's family has some VERY manly men: construction, hunting, bar fights once a month. Manliness is not dead. It's just not watching CNN. It's watching Fox News.
i can understand about the whole men should take care of the children talk but you just can't blame men everytime there's a single mom sometimes it just don't work and who usually end up with the kids mom right and besides women tear down men in the way they don't feal like the man they hope to be.
I blame the media for many American males becoming wimps! Too many buy into the fear & smear antics of the GOP, Beck, Limbaugh, etc!!! There was a time when Americans feared nothing but fear itself. I'm glad to be old school!!!
America runs on perception and it's not always tied to reality. It more closely follows commercial interests. Now a cottage industry will grow around the new maleness cult, with retro fashion and other items sold exclusively for this new cultural blip We see a reactive mood growing in movements such as the tea party with a slogan of take back America. (from who?) Glen Beck, and Rush speak to this emasculation of the male and talk about femi-nazis.
The reality is that men should really grow up, see the value that women have in technology, health care, politics and many other parts of our society. We can't go backward no matter how hard they try, and we have to move to a win win culture where women and minority's have a stake in it, and move from a culture of white men win and everyone else losses. Our motto should be: why can't we just get along!
If you want to check out a great example of the "Retro-Male" idea, then check out "Justified" on the FX Network (Tuesdays). We could use a few more of these Clint Eastwood type characters and a lot less of the "Brothers and Sisters" variety.
T.W.
The emasculation of the American male originates from two sources:
1) We live in a synthetic Nature;
2) Media Advertisements –
a) men are portrayed as stupid and dumb-witted: they can't remember the code to their house alarm system;
b) men can't remember their wedding anniversery;
c) men pull on doors that are clearly marked 'Push' and visa versa;
d) they push their own children out of the way to dive into a pool to retrieve a coin;
e) men turn on blenders with no top; etc.
Dear CNN,
I don't see the so-called "Retro-sexual" movement as being anti-female at all. With a 146 IQ, I'm used to being one of the smarter people in the room, but still about knee-high to my wife. But I adore her! It's about how we deal with (or are advised to deal with) the way that life deals us the heavy blows. Turning to anti-depressants has becoming common place, but allowing oneself to go down that road, vice hardening ourselves through exercise, and other "macho" activities (like studying martial arts in my case) leaves us weaker (my non-expert opinion) and the effect is cumulative. I hope that this does not negatively impact women and, in my case, the opposite has been true.
Wes
The returin of the retrosexual man could be the best thing that has happened to the male population in over a decade. Men seem to have lost their mojo as women became more insertive in the business world and roles seem to have switched. This could be the thing they need to boost their confidence..
Instead of teaching men how to make a knot in a tie, it is time to start teaching them how to be REAL men by stepping up and taking care of their children. Just ask the millions of stressed out single women in this country that are forced to do it all because the males that fathered their children refuse to do their part, both finanicially and emotionally. I have a 13 year son who has only seen his mother do it all. How will these kids ever learn what a real man is? It is an eppidemic and needs to stop. By the way, his father was raised in a single parent home as well with no input from his father. The cycle continues!!
This is not an attack on women, but a revisit on what it is to be a man. Lets face it, most men are emasculated now a days. You're not a man unless you wear slacks, clean shaven and wear a sweater tied around your neck.
Women fight to be in the work place, which they deserve to be there. However; it causes a problem. Women are becoming increasingly more powerful and now when you have two people, a man and a woman, with equal power, the roles are lost.
My ex-wife and I are both successful, which caused a problem. My role as a guy was lost and we just co-existed.
Its time for men to go back to being men. Stop following your woman around while on a leash, and women, I am not attacking you at all. Im just saying that us men are feeling this way. Most women (not all) are becoming emasculating to guys!
I am very pleased that men are trying to be men again. I am tired of the weak man. I believe that it is the whole metro-sexual man that has had a BIG hand in our nations problems with are kids. Our kids need strong dads not weak ones.
Of course our males are being feminized! My son, along with his 3 closest friends, have been raised soley by their mothers after their fathers dropped out of the picture following divorce. BTW, all of these boys' fathers hold executive positions. They are well paid & well educated & they have left their boys behind. This is what happens when our courts & biased judges fail miserably to adequately address absentee fathers. I predict a males studies course will find when males do not grow up with productive males in the home, they will become more like those who raise them.
AS a high school teacher at an all boys school, I observed my male students influenced by THE SIMPSONS-leading role model for men in this show set example, i believe for how guys are suppose to be.
This is just silly frankly. If you're insensitive, get a heart and have some empathy. It'll make your ability to get along with others improve. If you're a wuss, grow a backbone. It'll help you be independent and choose your relationships based on preference, not need. I don't care about your anatomy, I care about your behavior. There may well be gender related genetic predispositions towards various personality traits but that's not relevant. You as an individual have to learn to behave in a way that makes you a whole person; one that has the skills for healthy relationships and also the skills to survive on your own.
American male's rugged masculinity is hopefully what most women want (and most men want to fit that cultural image). But, evidently there are women out there who want a man like their Barbie doll or how they dressed up Ken. This may be because they are self-confident, and they don't need the rugged masculinity type of man to take care of them. As more women grow up with the self confidence and self reliance, the less they need rugged masculinity, and the more they may just be attracted to the "pretty" man.
As a woman, I have to say, I welcome the 'retrosexual' idea. I in no way feel that it is an anti-feminist movement at all. In fact, I think it can be quite complementary.
Women and men are different. And I don't think feminism sought to deny that while acquiring equality in basic rights for women. However, I do think that over the generations one negative side effect has been the de-masculization of males. While establishing ourselves as equals with the same opportunities to education, politics and employment, we have somehow begun to diminish the male role.
I know alot of men that fear that having the desire for adventure and messiness, being authoritative, decision makers, makes women view them as chauvenisitic. I believe that we women, as a whole, out of fear of notbeing taken seriously, have begun to ridicule masculinity, and also become much more controlling over our relationships with males.
I cannot tell you how many women I know that have created a relationship dynamic where they basically have the final say in everything their husband/boyfriend does; and then complain that thy never make decisions, take initiative, or complete tasks the way the women feel that they should. We have mocked and diminished what it means to be a man on our way to becoming amazing women.
I, for one, find it refreshing when a man is a "man". It allows me to fully be woman. And isn't that what feminism was/is fighitng for? Our freedom to be a woman in the fullest and richest sense?
I welcome the return of the man's man. There are too many guys out there who can't use a hammer or change a tire. My husband is and has always been the voice of reason and responsibility in our family. These qualities make it possible for me to work an easy part-time job and enjoy watching CNN every morning.
Methinks Mr. Brown should also be required to show his current asking price for a speaking engagement, and if fact... a lot could be added to this conversation by publicly posting where Mrs. Palin stands in the current hierarchy of speechmakers. If the GenPop becomes aware that her speeches draw more interest and income for the Public Events, Charities, Seminars and University Circuit stops who host her appearances, then they will surely find that Mr. Brown is not nearly as sought after or effective.
I believe that to a lot of citizens of this United States of America, her words ring as true or truer than those of the sitting President and the Pelosi gang, and Mr. Brown is not even in the same conversation with her. I don't think he would even fare well against Meg Whitman.
P.S. – I am a longtime fan of Ms. Chetry, and so I have to say... you "Rook Mahvelous" today.
Jason, not only do rapists, gang bangers and killers get food stamps, they always get free health care when they get sick. Millions of hard working Americans that have done things right but didn't have health care, they were basically told by some that they weren't worth insuring, but the killer with 5 bodies in his trunk, it's ok for him to have doctor on the public dime!
Obama is an over-rated hack and Palin is an over-hyped hack..
Neither one of them are sensible enough to improve this country.
Also, what the heck is the deal with that guy story?
So let me try and get this straight...guys wanna go back to the days when Paul Newman put out the Towering Inferno with dynamite and without the help of any chicks?
That's their big complaint?
Heavens to Betsy, what is wrong with people these days?!
I absolutely agree that men are being feminized and will eventually become extinct if things don't change. You speak of retrosexual? Does that mean I can get a decent job without an expensive suit, an expensive haircut and shave, and without being able to type 50 wpm. The aggressive, testosterone-filled, boisterous manly man is far too intimidating to hire for the numerous cubicle, memo-laden, sit- behind- a- computer all day jobs. We men have to do something we absolutely abhorr in order to get a fair shake in today's job market, and it's called ....adapting.
There is something to be said about the fact that the men in America are nothing more than 40 year old boys. We do not have a system that allows boys to become men. Not to say that the The Art of Manliness is the best system, but it seems as though there is a chord that is struck in the male mind when they are told they can actually be a the sort of person their grandfather might have been. That doesn't mean that we haven't progressed in our thinking toward women, it does mean that being a "man" is someone that is willing to step into the progression of himself and the world in which he lives.
The question isn't if "China Rising" is an opportunity. The real question is if Americans have "opportunity falling"?
"Whatever." I am a flaming heterosexual male, a man, or whatever else the hell it is I need to be whenever I need to be it to get whatever the hell it is I want honestly, whether I need to be masculine in the moment or slightly feminine during that time as well. We are all many things, rarely just one, at any given moment.... what we should be, what I strive to continue to be is myself, a happy human male & yes CNN, a relatively responsible man. Now I'm off to work. Keith Tadlock, RN, a man in Portland, OR.
this about the mens man i go to college and i have never seen so many feminine men in my life sometimes it's really hard to notice if a guy is a guy now a days but i guess you can some what blame women because these guys do have a femal partner so if the women is ok with the almost feminine look then there you go you can only find a handful of guys that have facial hair.
I do think men need to be saved. I noted this a few weeks ago after an Easter event, my daughter and I were playing at the playground. There were several men there with their sons, and the boys were just plain wimpy...and so were their dads! The boys were whiny with so much fear, it didn't even seem like they enjoyed playing on the playground. The dads just seemed to allow them to be wimps. It was sad. The gene pool for my daughter is looking kind of bleak.
I told my husband, that even though he has caveman tendencies once in a while, at least he was a man! There is a fine line, and I know it is difficult to walk it fellas, but most women don't like wimps!
As a mom, I want my son to be polite and respectful of women, but I don't want someone to walk all over him.
Maybe we should return to those days when certain men felt more in power and control of not only their lives but others as well. How about taking out the controls on wife beating and child abuse. Let us not forget public intolerance for minorities and inequities in pay, legal rights and public accomodations. All of us men do not want to go back to the world of our fathers or grandfathers. Progress for everyone can be painful guys so buck up and join the 21st century.
Speaking of men being men, Obama needs to "man up" and back a post-space-shuttle vehicle that will allow the US to send astronauts to the Space Station and beyond. It is emasculating to have to depend on the Russians for a ride. What would JFK say?
The American male does need saving!! My brother and my (now EX) boyfriend spend more time on their hair than I do– and I am a primper! Despite the familiar call for "sensitive guys," I think most of us ladies don't want to date ourselves– we want a REAL man, a guy's guy! Guys shouldn't know brands, care about designer jeans, or be counting calories more incessantly than we do! It's a real turn-off...
I'm so happy to hear of the male studies programs! I'm a woman and I'm not offended in the least! I agree with your lecturer that said we've "feminized" men. My fiancée is a manly man and that's one of my favorite qualities of his. He's totally getting a man cave!!
Sorry Mikey ... but you appear to be another one that wants to cast blame instead of actually wanting to find a cure for what ails the country. People that finger point and accuse should remove themselves from society.
I am NOT a Republican or Democrat – just an American that is tired of the corruption in politics.
Come November Obama will be a lame duck because the American people have finally seen what he is really about.
Let me say this first, I am not anti equality of rights, I think we all deserve equal rights and freedoms, both men and women... however I find men now seem to be unfairly demonized by some and there are special govt "equality" programs that take on women just to be "equal"....
If it was the demonization of women and programs that told schools and businesses to hire men just because they were men than we would be hearing sexism crys left and right ... yet when its men under attack there seems to be a double standard.
It's about time the American man stood up for himself, I am tired of, every time a man makes a rude comment to a woman in a comedy, the audience says "ooooo," like, look out your in trouble now, the woman is gonna beat you. American men are whimps. Knock it off, be a man and stop being afraid. If a female can be rude, so can men.
Congratulations to Ted Deutch on winning FL's 19th yesterday. In the 1st Congressional election since the passing of HCR, a Dem won!!! It wasn't even close!!! For all those that have been predicting Armageddon for the Dems, this should cause you to take another look at what's going on in America!
The media spends too much time on Palin, the GOP, tea party, etc. Only the same old talking points come from the minority. They have no answers, just non-stop criticism.
What happened to the right's mantra that it is unpatriotic to criticize the Commander-in-Chief during war time? They didn't even take a break when President Obama was in the war zone recently!!!!
Now we have Sen McCain denying he has ever been a maverick!!! When will the lies & hypocrisy end? The GOP lawmakers should return their salaries since the beginning of last year, After all, just saying no isn't earning their paychecks!!!
Why is it that I'm only 14, and yet I feel that I may be more qualified to be president than Sarah Palin?
Why do men need to be saved? Can't I flip my TV from commercials while watching the Bears game to HGTV without needing to be saved? Sheesh!
And *remember "During her speech, the speaker requests two bottles of water and bendable straws." l o l
Pfft. The Amerian male, in my mind, could use an image update, but doesn't need to be "saved" – at least not in the way the people behind this movement approaches it. One thing's for sure, if this means the fedora hat style is brought back, I'm at least partially in support.
yes american males need saving iv been saying it for a while now feminism gone too far men forced to let women into mens clubs but not men into womens clubs is unfair and it is disturbing how boys wear girl jeans now and scared of real work or getting there hands dirty men need to be men again n stop being females with a penis
The Mans man needs to be saved. Just take a look at other developed countries such as Japan and Korea. Though, predominately Asian, the men are looking more and more like women everday. Wearing make-up, carrying "man bags" aka Purses.
Addicted to lotions and cosmetical products. Yea lotion from time is ok, but when it become a religion, the man is lost!
What happened to just becoming rugged and cutting firewood?
Re Sarah Palin's list of required items. OMG why isnt there a sharpie on that list?Oh and it seems Scott Brown might be smart enough to avoid Palin like the plague. 🙂
Real men don't worry about manliness – they don't have to. It is a situation similar to "if you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it."
If you need a book, or movement to know how to be masculine, then masculinity is dead.
Andreas: A no brainer did indeed become the president. America already has free education, yet you confused the words "now" and "know".
Again.. Pauly attempts to distort the facts....
Most of the "damage" done by G.W. (Gone Wrong) Bush was do to the repeal of Glass Steagall.
Not to mention NAFTA – which is completely Democratic program – which costs the country 15 million+ jobs.
Quit trying to portray the Democrats as being any better than the Republicans.
Hey Melon,
I believe President Obama, not Obama, was elected by the American voters.
Sarah Palin on the other hand is a media phenomenon. You are the type of idiot who needs to remove their blinders.
There is a world of difference between the two and you seem, like most Republican wing-nuts, incapable of making the distinction. All you seem to be able to do is repeat the Republican talking points, as if they were factual.
I'm with CoCo. CoCo is with TBS. Using the transitive property of CoCo, I'm with TBS.
CNN missed the point in its story this morning about Neil Armstrongs criticism of the President's approach. Armstrong hasn't commented on NASA budgets or plans for 40 years, until now. He realizes that this change in direction puts at risk America's future in space, and that's why he's speaking out for the first time ever. I support most of what Obama has done in office, but his "new vision" for NASA is misguided. The budget increases for NASA, and Kennedy Space Center in particular, are a bribe to make it easier for Congress to swallow the fact that he wants to cancel the Constellation program that is well under way to returning us to the Moon, this time to stay. The "flexible path" approach of working on a grab-bag of space technology projects proposed by Obama is a ticket to nowhere. Without a clear destination, the Moon, NASA will just end up spending a lot of money with nothing to show for it.
Ever notice the one big omission from Palin & other GOP speakers at their conventions, rallies, etc? SOLUTIONS!!! All they do is criticize the President for trying to clean up the messes they created!
If the GOP had any answers, why did they try to deny the recession for almost a year? If they had the answers, they should have acted back in ;08 instead of trying to hide the damage until after the elections.
Palin has a cult following .. but Obama doesn't?...lol...
Somebody needs to remove their blinders and see the reality of things.
Not much difference between the two.
I work in the financial sector, an area where the woman is still considered to be on the "diversity recruiting" list. As a young professional and mother, I still see preference given to single men in the corporate world.
Although it is illegal, I have been asked more than once in job interviews, if I was "married" and/or if "I had children". I believe companies often look at women with children as a risk and choose to hire men instead.
So do the men need saving? No.
I am tired of men crying that they have no rights. Women can't even get an equal rights amendment passed by a predominantly male controlled election system.
Don't believe me that women and children are second class citizens? When did the family room, devoted to family activities, become the "MAN CAVE"?
Of course the bill was written and by the GOP – with the urging of Robert Rubin Clinton's Treasury Secretary... and it was signed into law by Clinton.
The bill that ultimately repealed the Act was introduced in the Senate by Phil Gramm (Republican of Texas) and in the House of Representatives by Jim Leach (R-Iowa) in 1999. The bills were passed by a Republican majority, basically following party lines by a 54–44 vote in the Senate[12] and by a bi-partisan 343–86 vote in the House of Representatives.[13] After passing both the Senate and House the bill was moved to a conference committee to work out the differences between the Senate and House versions. The final bill resolving the differences was passed in the Senate 90–8 (one not voting) and in the House: 362–57 (15 not voting). The legislation was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on November 12, 1999.
I can't understand why CNN & the rest of the media continue to give Sister Sarah so much free air time. She is a sore loser who has turned her 15 minutes of fame into a gold mine.
She doesn't appeal to most Americans. She has what can be considered a cult following. even her supporters agree that she could never win a Presidential election. She also knows this but uses the possibility to further her 15 minutes & to pad her wealth.
It amazes me that her tweets get the publicity they do. If Amerricans wanted to see her tweets, don't you think we would be following her on Twitter? Her speaking engagements prove one thing, fools & their money are soon parted!!!!
The bill was written & passed by the GOP!!! But don't let facts get in the way of your hyperbole!!!
Check your facts Pauly .. who pushed for it .. and signed it into law?... Clinton.
Poor melon, has a hard time w/ facts. The Gramm-Leach-Biley Act repealed parts of Glass-Stegall. All 3 of those lawmakers were Republicans. The GOP also controlled both Houses of Congress when it was passed in 1999.
Obama wants to put a man on Mars?
Can that man be Obama?
Sarah, what a story. Only in America could an ignorant biker chick come so close to becoming Vice-President, resign from her elected job before it is done, make 12 million dollars as a hate-monger and then be considered as an authority on anything.
If she is making money from her 15 minutes of fame, that's her business and the business of the ignorant suckers who will pay to listen to her psycho-babble.
I am more concerned that she is considered as an authority on any topic and that there are people listening to her uninformed half-baked opinions.
CNN has become the voice of the tea party and the biggest promoter of Sarah Palin. When are you actually going to do your job as journalists and demand an objective, sit down interview with Ms Palin??
Steagall*
whats interesting about whats happening with china is some of the similarities with how the U.S. the 20th century became the economic superpower.
Cheap labor, few labor laws, and growing international influence
Americans forget or just don't know that it was Slick Willie Clinton that repealed the Glass Steagall act which is the cause of the Wall St fiasco.
Google the Glass Sreagall act.
On another topic. T. Boone Pickens is scheduled to testify before the House Ways and Means Committee today and will ask them to extend and broaden tax credits that could potentially cost the American people 200 Billion dollars to help build natural gas fueling stations and convert fleet vehicles to operate on natural gas.
Energy security is important to every nation on Earth, but have we forgotten that, while less polluting that other fossil fuels natural gas still adds to CO2 in the environment and exacerbates the problem of global warming.
Renewable technology already exists (and has for – depending on which is examined – between 40 and 140 years) that would address polluting landfills, polluted surface waters, energy security and global warming.
That discussion will heat up in the coming year as work on an operational deployment of a carbon negative utility scale power plant moves forward.
Cheers, all.
@Ken... Does he do that with ALL speakers on state property?
so then what do you think of the extension on the stimulus? Is that just spending tax payers money too? Personally i am not for republicans or democrats. I am for what is right for the country. If our founding fathers saw what politics has become they would be SICK!!!
@ Melon,
Brown is seeking to find out what Palin is being paid because her speech is being given on State Property which is considered to be public property and as such, fees and charges for services speakers, programs, and income are a matter of public record and it is against the law to destry records of such contracts as they to are public records and must be preserved.
As long as greed is allowed to rule on WALL STREET ther will be no reform and as long as WALL STREET owns their own Senators, Republican & Democrat, there will be no reform.
As long as the little man and the small banks have no place else to turn to for loans there will be no reform.
Bail outs should be banned. The American taxpayers shouldn't be bailing out Wall St.
Democrats spend taxpayers money like it is their own personal cash with no thought given to the costs to the country.
Why don't we pass a tax law, on laws that tax and those lawmakers who pass these tax law's? Every time they pass a new tax law they themselves should be taxed on that law. Make each lawmaker pay a large tax when they pass a law and use that revenue for charity or education or BAILING-OUT WORKING CLASS AMERICA! Just seems like a good idea to me. Thought I would share that with you all.
Only in America can Sarah Palin who is intectually ignorant and un informed make 20 million dollars spewing garbage. Only in America will people pay lots of money to see and hear someone who says absolutely nothing substantive and that makes sense.
Never understand how a no brainer can make it so close to a real president. America needs free education, so the Reps will now better next time
I suppose i forgot to say that I live in Missouri now.
Just wanted to throw this at you. I am losing my job may 3rd. I cannot recieve food stamps because I have a felony drug conviction from Arizona. I have NEVER been on food stamps ANYWHERE, and therefore never abused them. Heres the part that really aggrivates me. A child molester, murderer, or someone convicted of fraudulent schemes CAN get food stamps without even a frown in the state of Missouri
Good Morning CNN!
I'd like to know why Brown thinks it is any of his business to know what Palin is getting paid.
Does he investigate what all speakers get paid? Or is he just spreading more hate like the typical politician?
