Poll: Obama will appoint liberal to Supreme Court
(CNN) – President Obama is expected to meet with key Republican and Democratic leaders Wednesday to discuss a replacement for retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.
A new national poll released this week suggests that a majority of Americans expect Obama to appoint a liberal to the Supreme Court, but only one in four want that to happen.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey indicates that 61 percent of the public expect the president to nominate a liberal to replace Stevens on the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, 21 percent said the president will name a moderate and 16 percent predicted that Obama will nominate a conservative. Read more
Sound off: What do you think? Who should Pres. Obama appoint to the Court?
Radical Islamic Web site takes on TV's 'South Park'
For years, the show "South Park" has made fun of things usually too controversial to target. Religion, in particular. Jews, Catholics, Mormons, Scientologists, Hindus, Buddhists... No one is safe.
In last week's episode, the world's biggest religious figures came together, including the Muslim prophet, Mohammed. To poke fun at censorship guidelines against showing him, Mohammed was first kept inside of a moving truck. Then he wore a bear costume.
One extremist Muslim group has responded, warning the show's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, that they'll probably end up dead. Does that go too far or is the warning protected by free speech? Our Drew Griffin with the Special Investigations Unit has the report this morning.
Are teens texting too much?
For most teenagers, cell phone texting has become a lifeline, but is it an addiction? Ask many parents and they'll say yes. Today in our original series, "Texting 2 Much?" our Deb Feyerick talks to teachers to find out what some schools are doing to keep kids' fingers off their phones.
Sound off: Do your teens text too much? We want to hear from you this morning. Add your comments to the LIVE blog below and we'll read some of them on the show.

My only problem with the Supreme Court is that it is a life time job. No one, no where, should be in any place of power for life. That is in it self, a king or dictator. Regardless of having a odd number to avoid stalemates.
The Supreme court should ONLY be allowed 10 years, 1 term, and be VOTED in by the people. Not as a tool to further whoever is President, his/her agenda. We still live under a "monarchy" like in England when the USA was "discovered". No one person or persons should be wielding any type of power for life.
This is for the people who feel like me-
When is the US government and military going to
BURN THE POPPIE FIELDS?
Don't allow Mr. Binladin any cash from it–BURN IT !!!!!!!NOW!!!!
I'm a prospective teacher and have seen issues of petty theft in some schools I've worked with. Educators need to pay attention to the difference in social classes and the temptations that allowing smartphones will create. Unless the school will provide each student with one during instruction, they should not be included in the classroom. I am that teacher who will search my students before they enter my class to make sure that they are really in their lockers.
Teen having a preference for texting at least lets me keep in touch with my kids. They don't listen or respond to voice mail. They seldom answer their phone but they will read and respond to my text. Schools need to regulate use of phones during school but need to make some kind of provision for parents to contact children. Just yesterday I needed to remind my son that he had a dentist appointment after school.
We as Americans have never invaded a country and walked away with any booty. We have only tried to bring countries together through democracy and freedom! There may have been contracts that American companies have bid on and won but we have never forced a country to become a free and democratic state. It is the way countries can come together inside and out! Melon if you are so fed up with America's interference and believe that we support terrorism while supporting Israel's right to exists then I suggest that you move to a terrorist supporting state like Iran or live in Gaza or southern Lebanon where they continue to fire and/or store rockets to kill as many Jews as they can and try to push them into the sea! I wonder Melon, do you think Hamas or Hezbollah are freedom fighters or terrorists groups?
Bravo to the school and principal that have figured out how to use cell phones positively in the classroom. Arnie Duncan, Secretary of Education should look into this and make it part of his inititives.
Get rid of the dinosaurs that say phones have no place in the classroom.
Yes, there is a problem with texting and its use. However, we must learn how to adapt to the technology and use it to our advantage.
How about installing cellular blockers in schools similar to what casinos use? One of my daughters high school teachers used one in her classroom, hidden in a computer speaker and it was VERY effective.
Good morning ....... schools should fine parents $50 if their kids are caught texting. There is no reason why parents can't pay $5 a month to restrict their kids. So if u fine them one years fee maybe this problem would stop
If you by cell phones for younger kids, then the extremist Islamic weirdos can get to them earlier in life thru the web. Somehow controls need to be in place. No facebook, no myspace, none of that. Just as a tool to further learning.
I have a question does anyone stop for a few minutes to see how selfish ,hypocrite ,onesided people are .Its so inhumane for the same people to get all the breaks in life by how much money you have or who you know .Dont you think its time that the media take a good look at how unfair this is ,for instances all the rich and famous are the ones promoting the majority of products we use .These people put themselves in a higher standard that the average person they would not want to be associated with us but we are buying these products .The same rich people write books and gets published as best sellers ,they get some many gigs they dont have enough time to spend the money .
The average person jush dream and wish and pray and hope ,and keep supporting these people to make more money .When are more help to going to be more avalible to make it possible to rise above poverty .
Look throughout history from the begging of time, wars are fought over one of two things and nothing else. Religion or politics. And mostly those two go hand in hand. Islamic people want to terrorize us, the Americans, for their religion. I would fight a war if it was over more important things, like food or water. Not religion or politics, because I don't have either of them as any type of influence in my life. I can think for myself.
The reporter discussing filibuster in relation to the supreme court pick stated that all sorts of legislation has been filibustered in the last year or so.
What legislation was filibustered in the last year??? I don't recall any reporting on filibuster.
HI
I think the Republicans are acting like stubborn children no matter what the current argument happens to be!!!!
The democrats did not give bush a bad time like this when he chose totally right wing " hanging off the edge of the wing so far that they were near falling off"
They gave the people Bush chose a chance to sit down and be heard w/out any threats of a filibuster, it seems no matter what he wants to do "Obahma" they are always giving him an extremely bad time over it.
And I think his choice should be a very liberal person to try and even out that heavy off balance right wing panel that sits there right now.
Give the man a break , he came into a huge mess from 8 yrs of a crooked morally bankrupt administration that almost destroyed our country and the entire worlds economy, and is doing a great job considering that unbelievable mess that he had to work with.
I give him an A+ for effort and courage to do the job!!!!
'
All Supreme Court Justices should be moderates, without political maneuvers in mind. However, if the new judge sways slightly in one direction.... I would hope that it is liberal. We do not need the far-right extremism and mindless "leadership" of an American Taliban thought process.
Sadly ... I think most Americans are believing the propaganda the American Government is spoon feeding them instead of using actually finding out what is really happening in the world.
Americans feel they have a right to impose their will on the rest of the world but give no regard to justice or equality.
Ever wonder why most of the world's population hate America? Doesn't it bother you in the least?
John,
As with basketball, when attempting your approach shot (golf), for better distance control, focus on the TOP of the flag. Ever notice how often you or your golf partners "come up short"? See if this doesn't help with your game.
Frank W. Riverhead, N.Y.
If Google has to censor data it should be for the whole planet. Be 'transparent' about it and let anyone who wants to know know and not cater to China to hide stuff.
Dan Are you saying it is alright to use US military weapons to kill women and children – which is happening on a daily basis?
Why do people feel that a suicide bomber is a terrorist but the an Israeli soldier using a US made weapon to kill unarmed civilians isn't a terrorist?
More double standards.
Extremist Muslim groups and their calls for death to this person and embracing violence to that person are the reason that terrorism is stereotyped to Muslims. What adds to that stereotype are Muslim leaders who don't take public stands against such rhetoric. Even the average Muslim does not publicly denounce this kind of behavior - they may do so privately, where no other Muslims are within earshot or where they can safely keep their own identity from other Muslims. Muslims cannot complain about the terrorism moniker being unfairly attached to them until they stand up to the radicals in their ranks.
Muslims says that their religion commands them to terrorize freedom loving Americans. It is written in their Holy book. Wouldn't such a belief constitute anarchy and a violation of the law ?
Is freedom itself going to be our undoing if freedom allows Muslims to import religious terrorism? What should we think about a religion that promotes terror and murder of anyone who doesn't believe? It is in the Quran. The Holy book itself does teach this terrorism of the infidels. They are only following their religious book.
This is a very dangerous religion for all the people of the world who cherish freedom and liberty. It is not going away and the modern world is under attack by this religion.
Are we going to turn our heads and ignore the threats?
Where are the jobs? If the "nanny" government wants to tell me I can not eat salt and I must pay some private company for insurance or get fined then where are the jobs to pay for the insurance and buy higher priced healthy food?
I voted for Obama because I wanted change from the "Good old boy" mentality but this is change in the wrong way for the most part.
They need to act like they 'got a pair' and go back to the simpler things in government, Wall Street and staying out of people's lives.
Adrienne – why do you feel Americans have the right to invade and steal the resources of Arab countries – like they have been doing for the last hundred years – or give military support to a terrorist country (Israel) that has killed thousands of women and children but when the Arabs say or do something to retaliate they are terrorists? And you can justify that in your mind?
Nothing will get better in the world until people can face the reality of what is actually happening or has happened in the past.
What ever happened to that great new law that was to REGULATE commercials on tv to not be so LOUD? That was a big thing in the media/cable news for like 30 seconds. I guess the companies who advertise on ALL channels said NO. At least the commercials can not disable my MUTE button on my remotes. I always mute all commercials. Try watching them with no sound and see how just stupid they look.
Islam is a violent religion in the rest of the world. There is no central voice running this religion. Every imam is his own pope. They can say anything they want and justify it with the Koran. They are followed because they are a learned man of god in the people's eyes. The lack of education in the 3rd world allows this to continue because the people dont know any better. Community peer pressure keeps others in line (ie the taliban). They dont know how to live and let live. It is their way or death. Why cant islam let other religions and people live their own lives? Why does islam think it has the right to impose their ideals on everyone else? Because their holy book says so???? What a load of crap. Religion only separates us. This planet needs something to bring everyone together.
The funniest thing about South Park showing the Prophet Muhammad is that they've done it before, and I guess no one noticed the first time. There is an old episode called "Super Best Friends," and they totally have Muhammad in human-cartoon form. Last week's episode even mentioned the original episode. I guess it's not an issue until there's enough hype. I'm just saying, I don't remember any death threats the first time around...
foreign language phenomenon is real. I experienced it when I was six years old but it was temporary. My real accent returned after a little over a year.
I'm disgusted every time I read people who claim the 1st Amendment gives anyone unlimited free speech. The 1st Amendment guarantees protection to the public & media from retaliation against criticism of the govt.
You can't claim freedom of speech if you call your boss something obscene & get fired for it. You can't claim freedom of speech if you incite panic in public by yelling fire. You can't threaten anyone & then claim the 1st as a defense. You can't expect protection if you walk into a biker bar & say something insulting to them & end up getting beat to a pulp. Try pleading the 1st after continually calling your spouse a slut or stupid. Many large awards have been handed down by the courts to those who have been slandered.
Conservatives rant and rave about the appointment of activist judges. Just what does that mean? The Constitution is not a static document as Justice Scalia has stated. That's what constitutional amendments are all about, to allow the constitution to meet the challenges never envisioned by the founders.
In terms of activism, which was more of an activist court: the one that ruled that separate but equal was constitutional in Plessy v. Ferguson in 1896, or the court that ruled separate but equal was inherently unconstitutional in Brown v. the Board of Education in 1954?
We need justices that look at legal questions, impartially, in the context of events and circumstances of today and not in the day of the Dred Scott decision, where it was determined that blacks had no rights, that they were property. Would that decision fly today, especially in light of the 13th 14th and 15th amendments?
Whoever President Obama chooses hopefully will not cater to corporate interests. It would be highly disappointing.
Is corporate greed too large a problem for the President or the Supreme Court to deal with? It better not be, because if he (and the other two branches of government) cannot stop corporate greed from ruining our nation it will ruin our world.
There I said it, it will ruin the world. This sounds like a Brad Pitt movie.
What's ridiculous about the depiction of Mohammad in South Park is that that his image WAS actually depicted on the show in Season 5. One did not hear the cries of death to the creators then. The only reason you hear them now is because the group actually contacted CNN with their offense. There is a youtube clip of Mohammad clearly clad in orange available, and the physical image they depicted then wasn't offensively – just like the ones for Jesus, Budda or any of the other religious deities in the Super Best Friends group. Why don't your CNN journalists point out THAT hypocrisy?
Melon are you saying that all these suicide bombings and car bombings are OK because of what the crusaders have done hundreds of years ago? Christianity went through a reformation and now Islam needs to go through one! Just because one has killed in the past does not make it right for another to kill in the future!
I don't need the "Nanny" government to make choices for me about what I eat. This is just ridiculous that people can not take care of themselves.
Jesus appeared on South Park a couple years ago. Did it make the news...no. Were people's lives threatened......no. Muslims have a bad name in this country and this is one of many reasons why. Get a grip!
I'm not islamic.. i respect all as god would appreciate it. Southparks comments on their show are not freedom of speech, they are down right rude. The should not be able to do 95% of what they do. All people are entitled to their beliefs, AND NOT BE MADE FUN OF,, They should pay... But not with their lives, the thought of that sucks as much as what southpark did!!!
I don't get it about South Park. Those extreme Islamic religious people are a threat to me, my family and way of life here in the United States of America. If they don't like FREE SPEECH then leave and go back to the Middle East. Period. If you want to be here in this country then you have to RESPECT individual rights.
Radical Website...
This guy says being on foreign soil steeling resources justifies terrorism...It seems to me that he is on US soil steeling our constitutional resource of free speech.
that Muslim guy looked so white bread, he probably works at Starbucks.
Did I hear correctly? This Muslim radical who posted the blog threatening to kill South Park producer LIVES IN NEW YORK?????
He says 911 was JUSTIFIED?
A. If you don't like our country and the freedoms it provides our citizens including yourself, GET OUT and GO BACK to where you came from! Live in your own peace elsewhere and be happy with what you have. Don't come to our country and threaten our people and way of living.
B. If you don't like South Park – DON'T WATCH IT! I don't like it and I don't watch it. I don't watch programs I don't like! I have that choice and SO DO YOU! Watch something you DO like! There are plenty of choices!
This guy should be deported!
I am a muslim woman and I am sick and tired of these Imams who misinterpret my religion. The Imam who said " the Koran gives Muslims the right to terrorize those who will rape his sister and kill his brother and steal his resources" is taking it out of context. The word in the Koran does not mean killing people BUT it means be strong in every aspect of life so that you make them fear of doing any harm or aggression to harm you."
I find it funny ... that the Dumbocrats are all over Palin for quitting as Governor (for whatever reason she had) but act like Spitzer quitting as Governor (for whatever reason he had) is somehow better. Too funny. Typical political double talk.
PS.. check out the reason why BOTH quit as Governor.
I noticed that Mr. Mohammed seemed to be enjoying the weather in NYC, instead of struggling through a sandstorm from wherever he claims allegiance....He is exactly the typeof person who needs to be deported from this country, maybe then he can learn to appreciate what it means to be able to exercise ALL of your rights, including that of free speech !!!!!!!!!!
To Tyler:
As a former teacher, I frown upon the use of electronic devices in class, unless it is part of the lesson, ie:, a computer, a calculator, etc.
I'm sure Tyler thinks he can text and drive as well, without any adverse effects. Multi-tasking, notwithstanding, a student can't concentrate on learning, while asking such innane questions of their firends, "What are you doing now?" in the middle of a calculus class.
I'm sure Tyler wouldn't appreciate it if he were giving a presentation to his class and all his fellow students were texting rather than paying attention. This would be especially frustrating if the class had to critique his presentation. In a day and age where we are trying to hold teachers more accountable for student outcomes, at the risk of losing their jobs if students do not achieve well on state mandated tests, isn’t it unfair to the teacher, the school and the district, if students’ learning is impeded by electronic distractions?
Maybe honor student Tyler would have a 95+ average, if he stopped texting and paid greater attention in class. As a teacher, I demanded that all cell phones and texting devices be turned off or students risked receiving negative points for class participation.
If Tyler is so intelligent, let him weigh those options.
By the way, as a creative teacher, I could devise ways of incorporating texting and twittering into a lesson to take advantage of the students' proclivity to use these devices. For example, what would Romeo twitter to Juliette? What would Iago say about Othello on his Facebook page? We can even have teams of math students text in correct answers to problems to the teacher's computer for positive points.
But, overall, I'm opposed to idle chatter of all kinds in class.
All we need is a few more generations of children raised without parents who instill prejudice and the interview of Michelle Obamas brother would be viewed as normal. An educated man raised in a loving home. A loving family with a sister who is now First Lady.
People spewing about how violent Islam is as if Christians aren't as violent or haven't killed and tortured millions in their day.
Why in the world are you having Elloit Spitzer on ? Is this supposed to be a person that is important for us to listen to ? Give us a break.
Foreign language syndrome is real. I experienced it as a 6 year old child and spoke like I was from Europe for over a year. My jamaican accent later returned. Its only two years ago I heard of the syndrome. Thought I was wierd and people thought I was making it up when I tell it.
Who signed Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) into law?... Hmmmmmmmm ... Could it have been Slick Willie Clinton?....
That's a really good area of research on this subject. If you are acute to the subject of behavior.... In the asian market there is a high rating of people who use hand held devises. .. The real subject is how to gwt people to pay atention while using these devices.... and the effects this will have on developing markets in the tech feild.....cant even make an interactive videogame if everyone is lookind down at their own unit
In my most humble opinion, President Obama should pick the best qualified lady or man (regardless of race or religious preferences) for the job. Who cares if the person is a liberal or conservative…is he or she qualified to do the job? Is he or she able to see through all the empty rhetoric and horse crap, make sound decisions, and not waffle because it’s the most politically correct thing to do?
Dear Muslim, if Muslims cannot demean Jesus or Moses who are both Jews then why do they hate Jews so much? As you say Moses lead the Jews out of slavery in Egypt and Jesus is the Messiah why then are they hated so much? They only have a slice of land in the middle-east as the Arabs surround them with much land in many nations so why can they not live in peace with their neighbors?
How much C02 has been released by the volcano? Can we regulate that ...
I think Free Speech means South Park can show whatever they want, "One extremist Muslim group" can make a death threat and everything is even. As long as nobody actually gets killed everyone has expressed themselves. We should not get upset when someone yells after we intended to step their toes. Free Speech lets us take the verbal backlash and move on cause we are still laughing at our own comments.
Personally I would like to have an "Unmask Muhammad" bumpper sticker. ALL terrorist need to get the message that Americans will not stand for thier theats under any circumstance!
Regarding Islamic threats against South Park's creators–or anyone who exercises their God-given and Constitutional right to free speech:
Every human being in the world has the God given right to free speech, regardless of what Islam pretends to dictate. In the United States, free speech is a Constitutional right.
Solomon summed it up in Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25: "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."
Where does free speech end and criminal incitement to harm begin? We, all, feel a sense of vulnerability when someone speaks of the need to "terrorize" the non-believer. But, like the potential danger a stalker represents to any given individual, the law is impotent until a concrete action is taken. We are a free society and we value our right to speak freely without threat of arrest. But, life and law are not perfect. Since we value free discourse, we must struggle to inhibit the debilitating effects of speech used to incite. This is a difficult task.
I’m so sick and tired of believers of Islam thinking their religion is so sacred that it can’t be criticized, critiqued or questioned.. They think their holy sites and land is more sacred than sites or lands cherished by Christians and/or Jews.
Muslims want to stifle the freedom of speech of anyone who questions their religion or icons. We should not be afraid of challenging or questioning any aspect of any religions. Tell them they don’t frighten us with their threats and fatwa’s Keep up the challenging, questioning and the sarcastic humor. Hooray for South Park
Foreign Accent Syndrome (FAS) report and that scott-irish (whatever) accent that John Robers did before 7:00 AM ET....you know what I mean. Was the funniest thing I have ever seen. Awsome.
On the Supreme Court Pick – Rather then throw a fit over Obama replacing a liberal with a liberal, the Republicans should be more concerned when someone like Thomas or Scalia retires.
On South Park – EVERY episode of South Park is prefaced with a full-screen disclaimer showing it as something that no-one should take offense at or take seriously. The only thing this Muslim group has succeeded at getting the message out about is that they cannot read.
On Texting – Most schools have a standing rule against having phones or other devices out /on during class. That being said, the teachers should absolutely confiscate them whenever appropriate.
Aren't parents responsible for their children's nutrition and fitness? I want school lunch to be healthier. I also want parents, who decide whether or not their children buy or carry their lunch, and who provide their child's meals at breakfast, dinner, on the weekends, and during all school breaks and vacations, to feed their children healthy food.
To the Christians and Jews who poke fun at and mock the Prophet Muhammad(Peace be upon him), you must know that we cannot according to Islam demean Moses or Jesus(Peace be upon them). The Qur'an explicitly states that Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of Mary(Peace be upon him) is the Messiah, the one chosen by Allah to reform the Israelites. We bear witness that Jesus the Messiah is one of the Messengers of Allah, sent with the Injeel(Gospel). We likewise bear witness that Moses(Peace be upon him) was sent to the Israelites as a Messenger of Allah to lead them out of humiliation in Egypt.
In my opinion, teens should have the right to text in class. Some teens are responsible enough to know when to text and when to pay attention and if theyre not than nothing you can do will stop them from texting anyway. I am a grade 12 honor student with a 90 average and i text in class, its my choice and i still do very well in school.
Arizona sounds like it is going to be like NAZI Germany or the USSR, guess if I find myself in Arizona, I better have my Identity Papers in order, and notify the U.S. Consolata that I'm in Arizona.
I am an American citizen and my skin color should never be "reasonable suspicion".
Hi,islam is a VIOLENT religion, lets get that fact clear, they kill and oppress those not with them, where i stay in stay in africa christians are forced to convert to islam,America, wake up there is no peace in islam.,
The Laws being passed by Arizona, frankly will allow police officers to conduct profiling. In accordance with terry v. Ohio these laws will be overturned not only with swift accuracy, but with possible equal protection cause lawsuits. There needs to be something done about immigration, but opening profiling is a pandora's box that any legislation should approach with caution.
I think the creators of South Park need to continue doing what they do best, making us laugh. Americans will not back down to threats on our own freedoms of speech from those who admittedly hate this country.
Religions are not (pardon the pun) sacred cows to criticism. I think they have proven themselves time and time again to be worth of criticism. They typical response to religious criticism is violence and/or death. Claiming devine enlightenment is not a free pass to promote a death threats or violence. Bafoonery!
I am so ashamed by the comments of the member of the revolution group. I am muslim female born in canada with an open-minded and religious dad who founded our muslim association and helped grow the community but never in my life has there ever been hatred or to terrorize or intolerance been preached or even accepted. The islam we have been taught is of peace and helping fellow man. I am so tired of people using this faith as a scapegoat to kill, hurt, or justify their own evil. Rather then using "free speech" to promote violence I hope that these people will turn their rage and intolerance into good. We live in a mutlicultural society and with that comes the respect to tolerate others even if you don't like or agree with everything they do.
The bottom line is that Muslims are forbidden from showing an image of Mohammed, and that's where it ends. Other people shouldn't have to abide by the laws of another's religion. Censoring an image because of threats or violence IS giving in to terrorism, and a sacrifice of our values of freedom of speech and religion.
I think the time has come for america to start protecting americans. I think we as a country have become so involved with the problems of other nations, that we hesitate to act for fear of being scrutnized by other nations. The fine line between a clear threat of terrorism is being trodded on here, which may not be taken seriously until it's to late. As we have seen in the past usually when people like that make those threats more than just there targets are hurt and most of the time its the innocent. How long should we wait to act accordingly to something like this...until it's to late?
When Eliot Spitzer comes on, ask him for "his take" on the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) back in 1999. (That ought to get the ball rolling). Economists have attributed this to the 2008 financial collapse. Regarding Financial Reform, the GLBA needs to be repealed as a start to the reforming process and legislation.
The federal government school lunch programs need to be ammended. They are feeding our children processed foods and not cooking foods on sight. As we know today they have alot of added calories.
I reccommed the schools take the money from the vending machines that they original approved for improving the school and adding a real caferteria that can cook simple foods on sight.
That would be a big improvement
In America religion is a superficial thing, just something to wear on a nametag. This is not so in the Muslim community. For us, life is governed by deen(way of life), everything we do and should do is goverened.
One of the ordinances of the way of life of Islam is that EVERY Prophet; be they Jesus the Messiah(Peace be upon him), the son of Mary, Moses, Ishaq(Isaac), Isma'il(Ishmael) etc...(Peace be upon them all) are FORBIDDEN for us to depict.
Since they are forbidden for us to do, they are forbidden for anyone else to do. Knowing that, we know the campaign to depict the Prophet(Peace and exaltation of Allah be upon him) is an attempt to demean and disrespect and anger, especially anger the muslim community. This is a blatant campaign to anger the muslim community.
The Christians and Jews have not protected the Prophets(Peace be upon them) whom they claim to love and follow. Since they have not protected them, it seems permissable to poke fun at The Messiah(Peace be upon him).
my supreme court pick? why, elizabeth warren, of course.
she's bold, courageous, brilliant and tough.
A threat to kill someone goes way beyond free speech. The Koran might include something about "terrorizing" non-muslims. Some radical Muslims interpret it as killing innocent people, including women and children. These groups satisfy their inner hatred by interpreting the Koran the way that best suits their interests.
In accordance to the show South Park, if you don't like what you see change the channel. You have the power of free speech, but you also have the power to push the button on the remote. Why resort to "terror" or "violence" to everything that upsets you.
I am a big fan of South Park. My wife and I always get into argument most of the times when the show is up. South park has shown everything from politics to religion. So what is so special about showing Mohammed? they have shown jesus Christ so many times, and I didn't hear anything from Christians. FBI needs to be all over this threat to South Park producers.
The South Park story is ridiculous. That Muslim should be immediately arrested by the CIA and held w/out bond....he is terrorizing an American. If he doesn't like our freedom of speech, then he should be immediately deported back to his own country. How dare he treat Americans like that........this is b/s
Michelle in Tennessee
I don't know if anyone else was watching the same episode of South Park I was last week, but I remember seeing Buddha snorting cocaine infront of a bunch of kids. Yet, I haven't heard a single Buddhist complain. Suddenly, seeing Muhammad in a U-Haul and bear costume doesn't seem so bad by comparison. Is it asking too much for people to lighten up? Probably...
Melon-I don't think VP Biden has cornered the market on stupid comments out of DC. With regards to political comments being oxymoronic...who is the most civilized monkey at the zoo?
If muslims think its there right to terrorize non believers then why did they come to the U.S. We had laws before they came. If they don't like it here they need to go back where they came from.
I have repeatedly seen on CNN these two israeli jews who claim to be muslim. Just like Adam Ghuddam of California these are fake muslims whoes purpose is to malign Muslims and Islam. Muslims see this clearly however as expected it is great anti-Islamic dirt for CNN created by these fake Muslims.
I am not a fan of South Park I don't think that it is very funny but as you say they have been making fun of all religions and you don't see Jews, Christians, Hindus etc... saying that they will kill the writers of the show. I guess Muslims are insecure with their beliefs that they have to attack and/or kill anyone that puts their religion down. If their so sure that their way is the truth then why would they have to fight and kill people who disagree with the way they follow the laws of Islam. Does Islam call for the death of those who question the way they treat those who break Sharia law or women who wish to learn and work in any corner of the Muslim workforce? I think that the Muslim extremists are afraid that Islam, like all religions will have a reformation that would bring their religion into the 21st century and out of the 9th century where these fanatics wish they could revive!
I am sick to death of everything we say or do and every "study" that comes down the pike being labeled as some sort of National Security issue!
I don't believe for a minute the so-called statistics that declare that the vast majority of U.S. citizens are overweight or obese or that the majority of kids today are too fat to join the military–or that they're even overweight at all. Since all the publicity and media hype about obesity among U.S. kids, I've taken notice. In this part of the U.S. the vast majority of the kids are the right weight for their height–not overweight or obese. There are some who are overweight, but the majority by far are slender, very active children.
Media have fostered an air of fear across the nation that is unwarranted. Declaring that overweight children are a threat to national security is just ludicrous!
I am a nurse and worked with school wellness programs. The schools in my state were involved with the BMI project of 3rd graders to identify children who were of a healthy weight, overweight or obese. A joint project was then implemented where healthy foods ie. fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains were placed at the beginning of the lunch lines. Children were more apt to pick up the healthy choices first. There also has been an effort to remove vending machines from the schools. This has been a fight since the companies that stock the vending machines, provide monies to sport activities in schools.
This is an effort to prevent chronic conditions such as diabetes. There are now children with Type 2 diabetes (adult onset) and this will effect the military recruitment and health care costs in the future.
The man who spoke who was a radical Islamist is trying to sell his propoganda to those who will listen. Hear what he is actually saying. The Koran gives Muslims the right to terrorize those who will rape his sister and kill his brother and steal his resources. He doesn't care about women. The muslim world covers their women and treats them less than human. Give me a break. He cares little to nothing about women. Kill his brother? Muslim brothers have been killing each other for centuries. Finally, stealing their resources, now this may have a grain of truth. Except, if it wasn't for western technology and political goodwill, the muslim world would still be in the stone ages. Bottom line, he is a religious fanatic and religious fanatics no matter what religion all look and sound the same.
providing healthy school lunches are a great start...but keep in mind that the mindset of Americans are for unhealthy food choices. Schools with open lunches will push students out of school for fast food. Trash cans fill up with healthy food as students throw away fresh fruit and vegetables to make room for chili buritos and burgers. Society needs a paradigm shift
It is funny how the radicals will hide behind free speech to preach their dislike of America, but would threaten others who use free speech that have opposing view of their own.
Thanks for featuring Mohammed from New York. Americans need to know that there are individuals all over this country promoting terror and sedition. They aren't just foreign terrorists, they are our neighbors and the people we grew up with. The poisonous idealogy of Islamofascism and Sharia law isn't going away anytime soon and our government will have to deal with it before more lives are lost.
I would like to see him appoint Jennifer Granholm from Michigan. Nothing would send the party of NO! (republicians) into an epileptic shock faster than appointing:
1. Another WOMAN.
2. A liberal Democrat.
3. And the frosting on the cake....A Canadian-born (who is now an American). Repbs hate Canadians.
Ilegal Immigration
What wrong with checking if you are legal or not. It's plain and simple, if I'm overseas or in a foreign country, I'm required to show a passport. What's the big deal, I paid over a hundred dollars for my passport. Too much politics, not enough common sense. This has gone on too long, there need to be some type of reform but until then the states must do something. Family or not, if you are illegal you go home, it's reality
Kids are too fat to join the military?... I guess I better fatten my kid up some more. Let the military find their cannon fodder some place else.
Biden speaking on Title lX? .. Please. Give us a break. Credit Card Joe is THE most corrupt politican in Washington, bar NONE. Title lX has affected (ruined) high school sports in Michigan already. Just more political correctness run amok.
"Steamrolling?!?!", "Sherriff of Wall Street?!?!", Eliot Spitzer!!! Sounds like this is the kind of guy our country needs, not only for Wall Street, but for Congress as well. We need someone who can "smell out" issues and corruption. CNN it is your civic duty to get Mr. Spitzer back on top of the situation. It's high time that Wall Street actually earn those big bucks they are making off the backs of us minions. Air time, Air time, give Mr. Spitzer AIR TIME!!!
More states need to pass laws like Arizona's concerning illegal aliens. More needs to be done to stop the invasion that is happening to the US.
Any person or group threatening death to any individual is not free speech, but an assault with the intent to do bodily harm. If this threat was made to a public official the FBI would be all over it.
There are many thing protected by free speech and they should be, but these rights should not be extended to non-citizens who wish to do us or individual citizens harm.
A liberal, I must say. There's been too much control in the supreme court by conservatives who can not separate their religion from the state. Government and Religion should not mix in such a diverse country and we need someone that views our country in this way: All the way from gays to immigrant students who deserve to study in this country (when paying full taxes that support the country). Like KCH above said, we need a balance and it must happen.
Good Morning CNN!
I'd be shocked if Obama didn't appoint a liberal to the Court.
I once was a Repub. but watching them now. They are like a bunch of spoild kids throwing a tantrum. Everything the Pres. it trying to do they always comeback with they will shoot it down. No process to there thought, just threats! I hope Obama gets all he asks for. The First President I can remember that made promises on the Campanign trail and followed through.. If the repubs had a leader like that...Well, I guess that they would have the Vote to do as they please. Most of all they would still have my Vote. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!!
Absolutely he should appoint a liberal justice. There needs to be a balance. The court has shifted radically to the right due to Dubyah's choices. We need a young, proud, smart , articulate progressive to do battle with the right wingers currently parked in the courthouse.
