Supporters of Arizona Immigration Law
The new Arizona law requires police to check whether a person is in the United States legally, if there is a reason to suspect he or she isn't. Critics say it could foster racial profiling, but get closer to the border and you'll find many supporters, some loud and angry – who say this law will save American lives.
Dealing with a disaster
The federal response to the oil spill disaster is growing. The massive spill comes at a time when President Obama is pushing a major expansion of offshore drilling. How will this change views on off-shore drilling?
New Jersey Principal: Say NO to Facebook
Middle school principal, Anthony Orsini sent an email to parents asking them to voluntarily join a ban on social networking sites. Orsini says in his email: "There is absolutely no reason for any middle school student to be a part of a social networking site!" and cites bullying as the major danger posed by Facebook and MySpace. So far, parents seem to agree.

How about a little air time for the Coffee Party, and little less of the Tea Party?
United and Continental to merge, creating the world's largest carrier.......or is it just another American "Too Big To Fail" company in the works?
I wish all the famous celebrities and politicans could give up living in thier mansions, high security buildings, and bodyguards and live in Southern AZ for 6 months. Let them know the crime, drugs and all other illegal activities that would be going on in their own back yard while the Federal government ignores it. If people who are complaining so loudly about this law had to live in that environment for an extended stay..they might have a change of heart about immigration laws.
For Gerald in Maryland,
You need to have your meds adjusted! There is no way you can compare this to the "Targeting of other ethnic groups" during WWII. The act during WWII was wrong. This isn't As for the "give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breath free" Those are the immigrants that are doing it legitimately. They are the ones getting the proper documentation, waiting for their turn to legally come to America. The illegal aliens are "LINE JUMPERS. They do not or in some cases can't secure the proper documents and choose to just come on in. I have no idea of how many of the 12 million illegal aliens are criminals in other countries that fled their country to come here, but I imagine there are quite a few. You just want to open up the borders to them? we are talking about TWELVE MILLION AND MORE COMING IN EVERY DAY!
Wake up people ! The commercial the politician created about speaking English is not about being racist, it is about being proud to be an American, what our troops are fighting for. What is wrong with asking the people who come to live in the United States to speak the language. When you go to China they speak Chinese, people from the US visiting or moving to China do not ask the Chinese people to learn and speak English. It has nothing to do with race, it is just being proud to be in the US, have respect for the language and also speak your own. Be bi-lingual, and have diversity also. We are all intelligent enough to do it !! We can do it !!
the problem is not only the ilegal aliens its the emlpoyers!! they should be FINED !! for HIRING ilegal aliens.
This isn't a bash, but a serious question: What do John McCain and Sarah Palin think of their campaign mantra "Drill!, Baby, Drill!" given the current state of affairs in the Gulf of Mexico? I'd love to see an interview of either explaining that position in light of what seems now to be quite a terrible idea. The potential for ecological and commercial harm – not to mention the devastating effects on the lives of individuals like CNN showed today – seems to make that mantra a short-sighted embarrassment based solely on luck and hope that a rig doesn't blow up on your watch.
for al Mckenzie who siad the we are scared of every little thing that comes along. 12 Million Illegal Individuals inside our border is not a small issue. That is FIVE TIMES more than the entire US Military personnel, FIVE TIMES! Then there is the economic drain on the health care, the education and the social services as well as the drain on the things that cities and counties have to provide for these people, water, sewage, highways, police, fire department. It snowballs and to sit and say that is only a small problem is INSANE.
I find it funny that cnn is treat the illegal immgrants like heroes. Did this people do something illegal. that is why they are call illegal immgrants? Wake up! CNN you are make this into racist so you can push your ideas of Republicans being racist. Sorry but i think if you want to come to this country you should do it legally. My family did. So why is it so hard for this people to do it? Plus why is it that you ignore the fact that president obama aunt is illegal alien? you fail to mention that? we need to enforce our borders. if not we will have another 9/11! plus if you look all the 9/11 people came form canada not mexico! we need to enforce all our borders! so stop treat arizona like it terrible for it to enforce a law. Arizona was force to do this because of the lack of federal laws or reform. obama has to go.
Were not deporting no one were just giving them a free ride back home .
Immigration Debate? Other than native Americans, aren't we all immigrants in the US?
On the story about the Latino couple/family in Arizona, if you can, help them with their privacy and being discrete by doing that "muddled focus thing" you do by covering the license plate on the car at the end of story, unless that is a fake car and exit for effect. Pretty easy to make out the license plate. Unfortunate for them, hope a repair and reunion is in their future.
Omari
It is against US laws to cross it's borders without proper documentation US citizen or not.
Thank Ken
believe it or not there are arizona residents who are in favor of this law. The media is creating mass hysteria with all the coverage they are giving the people against this new law. arizona has a serious problem with drug and human smugglers and something has to be done since the federal government refuses to protect its citizens. I am an arizona resident of hispanic origin, i love my country , served in the military and have no problem showing my papers to the police officer who may ask to see them. I will shake his hand and thank him for the job he or she is doing to serve and protect us.The people who are against law enforcement doing there job to protect us will be the first ones to call the police when they are in trouble.
In New York City the Police stop an Illegal Alien and arrest them for various crimes and see the fake I.D. poorly put together with tape and glue from 42nd st and they charge them for the offense and have to turn a blind eye on the I.D. because it would require them to initiate an immigration procedure that they claim the City cannot intervene in until OUR POLITICIANS DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Arresting of Americans and charging them with false I.D. possession and Identity Theft continue, however.
Oh, and if I rob a liquor store and am caught, I go to jail. I am separated from my kids, not because of the law which sent me there but because I BROKE the law. These sob stories about breaking up families are a bunch of bunk. The families are the ones breaking themselves up because they BROKE the law.
Let me get this straight, a legal citizen MARRIED to someone that's not a legal citizen is so worried about the bill she's sending him? That defies logical and common sense. Americans have been getting married to foreigners for years without having to worry about their spouse getting deported unless it was a sham marriage to begin with. I know this story was supposed to elicit feelings of guilt and sorry, but the only thing that kept repeating in my head was what a moronic way of thinking.
"Anna" the US Citz with a Master Deg married to a criminal (UDA). How is he working? What CRIMES has he and you committed to keep him here and to receive any benefits he and you have received because of false papers... not paying taxes... etc etc etc. Why do you not go back to his country with him? Would that not solve your "love" issue?
Your story on the couple who are being "split up" by the new AZ law is touching, but wrong. It is my understanding that he can get a green card by being married to a citizen. Either she's not a citizen or he's done something else illegal and is afraid of the law...which he should be!
Lots of interesting comments this am. My oldest daughter's father-in-law lives in Tuscon. Has had a concealed weapons permit for a long time. Says he has to be armed in a lot of places in Tuscon. I agree with the Arizona law. Think we should have the same here in Florida. People have every opportunity to become legal citizens if they want to. I have to provide my passport when going to Europe, even have to surrender it at hotels, what's the difference?
Has anyone ever thought of how much stress illegal immigration is putting on our public schools?
GESTAPO is back...so sad.
If this AZ law continues and many other states enact simular laws are we not playing into the hands of and empowering the white supremist groups? What says that we do not start targeting other ethnic groups and resort back to the days of WWII were the US created camps to house Japanese Americans just because they feared they may turn on the US? What ever happened to "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free," are those empty words now, is everything that we believe in fought and died for long forgotten, or have we as a nation became so powerful that we have just were we came from?
Your calculated decision to run the sympathy piece on the young latino citizen with an illegal husband makes me sick. Do you know that by obscuring the face of this illegal (meaning criminal), you are aiding and abetting violation of a federal and state law? Corporations should divert money from propaganda, to helping illegals over throw tierney in their own country.
I am an American, born in New York City, of a Black father and a White Mother who passed away when I was 17 and 19 respectfully and I rebelled and got into trouble. But after years of the being on the wrong track I have been trying to get my life back together and have not been in trouble in 7 years and I am not receiving welfare or rental assistance or any kind of break. To stay home and go through the ups and downs of life in itself, I had to take responsibility for myself. But make no mistake, if and when I get stopped by the Police or I apply for a Job, I am remembered for my past and I am politely reminded of it in a quite type of way. Point is, How dare our Country deny millions of 40 year old men like me of a fair opportunity at changing our lives and helping us in any way close to the way they reward and compensate a group of people who systematically interact with each other through thousands of organizations to circumvent the very fabric that holds our Great Country together as a beautiful Weave of multicolored people who have a sense of responsibility and mutual respect for our individual pieces of the American Dream.
When I went through the Legal System years ago, they were dealing very harshly with people that got together and committed Illegal acts like using fake I.D's and network together to break a variety of laws with a name called "RICO"...
i am very sorry luis but anyone who puts his nationality before the country he lives in by calling him or herself hispanic/italian/irish american does not have his heart in the right place, my ancestors come from europe but i am an American, not something slash American just American. i welcome all who come here to become Americans legally.
to the illegal allien: i know there will be people who are going to hate what i have to say, i will be called heartless, and a racist, which i am neither, but when are the people of mexico going to stand up for themselves in their own country. instead of changing the united states, change mexico. bring the standards of mexico and central and south america up to our standards and maybe just maybe you won't want to leave your own country except to maybe be a good neighbor and just come for a friendly visit legally. i see you on the news, you walk off your jobs and schools to protest in the streets of America, when you should be doing that in mexico. make the world proud of you, make yourselves proud of eachother and gather the courage enough to do in mexico what we have done already for ourselves in the united states of america.
It is against the law anywhere in the US not to show id when asked by a police officer no matter where they stop you at. Why should it be different for illegal aliens. I've been stopped for being white while in the "wrong" neighborhood (according to police) is that wrong?
Regarding the illegal immigration issue. If we really did manage to locate and deport all of the illegal immigrants living (and working) here, who would pick the crops, clean the hotel rooms, perform the landscaping and the multitude of other low paying, menial jobs that even unemployed Americans wouldn’t take? Would we be willing to pay a lot more for these products and services? Oh yeah, where would the Republicans find their illegal Nannies to take care of their kids. I guess they would be exempt!
I don't feel sorry for the lady this morning and her undocumented husband. My parents came here legally with green cards and so did my wife. It's not fair that my family followed the rules and others don't have to.
Al,
"It's like blaming your car when your teenager wrecks it."
But after your teen gets his or her license, you cannot monitor them driving. You have to TRUST them. Whether they can handle Facebook at that age is another question.
On the front page a protester holds a sign saying ~~ "Stop Deporting Families". WELL, STOP coming into our country "ILLEGALLY" then. I'm tired of these bleeding hearts whining and boohooing.
Well, I guess I won't be going to AZ anytime soon, for those of you who think that people need to stop winning, think about it for a second, how would you feel if you were walking down the street and a cop asked for documents to prove your citizenship, well last time I checked I am not required to carry my birth certificate with me so the only thing I would have is probably my driver’s license, but because I am a Hispanic, I automatically become a target therefore I will be going straight to jail. But if you are white whether you American or not more than likely this will not affect you at all, so I guess is okay to be an illegal European. Trust me as a Hispanic American I am all about immigration reform, but I do have a problem when someone targets me just because of my ethnic background.
dear, lisa smith no offense or disrespect meant but here's a little english lesson. definition of illegal.
illegal: 1. forbidden by law or statute. 2. contrary to or forbidden by official rules, regulations, etc.
synonym: unlawfull, illegitimate, illicit, criminal.
oh and to those that do not know, synonyms are words that have the same or similar meaning.
being undocumented is illegal, if anyone comes to my country illegally they are breaking the law and should be arressted and deported or imprisoned. why should someone who is breaking the law get any benefits under our constitution? there are people who come here lawfully like my great grandparents in the 1880's. my great grandfather loved this country with all his heart and taught my grandmother to love, respect and be true to the united states of america and she instilled that in my father who in turn instilled it in me. and with that love and devotion comes a responsibility to obey and honor our laws. illegals are stealing from us and from the lawfull immigrants coming here to truly and honorably become american citizens. God Bless The United States of America!!! Be Safe!!!
The US is the greatest country on the planet and yet its citizens seem to be scared of every little thing that comes along. Whats up with that? Is the US turning in a nation of fraidy cats? Or are the citizens easier to influence and manipulate when they are afraid?
Why aren't parents monitoring ALL the computer and Internet usage by their kids? Facebook, like most Internet sites, should be monitored. It is like blaming the car when your teenager wrecks it. There are privacy settings that can protect your middle school student. Stop being reactive, be proactive and USE them.
Facebook is an unmoderated adult site. Not for children unless strictly supervised. Pedophiles pose as young children all the time in order to build trust.
Perhaps it is almost time for the U.S. to nationalize these greedy and selfish oil companies and operate the oil rigs and oil infrastructure in a safe and responsible manner without regard to the “profit” motive. Take out the hundreds of billions of dollars in ill gotten “profits” and it would drive down the price of oil world wide, greatly improve our economy and better protect the environment. They are simply taking a public natural resource and reselling it at insane profits without regard to safety or the environment (yes, that includes coal mines). Why would we even permit a foreign oil company to steal our oil from our back yard, then sell it back to us at inflated prices! Tongue in cheek… it looks like an economic system based entirely on greed (i.e., “profit”), corruption (i.e., Goldman Sachs) and complete disregard for the environment (i.e., foreign oil company BP) or the society upon which it operates and extracts it’s profits, can only go so far…
Thanks for sharing the story on Arizona's rancher. There are many more stories here about victims of illegal immigrants. Let's begin telling some more of those. We could start here in our subdivision where a vehicle filled with illegals fleeing from border patrol crashed into the home of one of our residents. The couple was lucky as the vehicle stopped within inches of their bed. They were unlucky as the illegals fled the scene and they had to rebuild part of their home.
NASA does space exploration...not environmental stewardship. Maybe BP should have had their act together and had this eventuality planned for long before they started drilling. Too late to lock the barn door now.
Why is the American Government forsaking the Americans that live in Arizona and other bord states by not enforcing the laws already on the books?
Most wont apply to immigrate to the US because they will be rejected due to no education, bad health or because they come from Mexico. They cant afford the application fee and have no other hope than to run the border to pick vegetables at slave wages. The alternative is to stay where they are working for even smaller wages with no hope to better themselves or their families. They can SEE the American dream from the border but they are not allowed to share in it. Must be very frustrating. Remember when all the jobs went to Mexico after NAFTA? Those jobs are now in asia.
I am amazed that the reporters don't ask the real questions to those who feel affected by the Arizona Immigration Law.As in the report this am, never did the reporter ask the gentleman why he had not become a US citizen,or as educated as his wife was with US law,why did she not realize she was harboring an illegal alien. It is a sure case that certain demographic groups fail to adhere to us law. You should also share how illegal it is to do the same thing in Mexico.
I seen the interview with the Hispanic couple. I never heard the question asked about a Visa beeing applied for. It seems like the interview was a bit one sided.
I just watched the first 18 minutes of your 8 a.m. broadcast, all of which was devoted to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Not once during this time did I hear the name BP. Instead, all I heard was "the oil company." How much advertising revenue does it take to absolve a corporation of its responsibility?
CNN...your moderation biased...testing....figured I should warn you about that ....talking Government, Industry, Finance, Academic, Military, Media, Religion(spirituality+ethics) and the People done wrong by the first seven and every time you moderate under the influence of Government, Industry and Finance it is recorded right down to who you are reader and all there is to know about you...Some People at CNN working for the People and walking around you right now...some have eyes on every part listed above here CNN...reporting what you are told to report most times...anxious to see Media cleaned up....blurred vision..
@ Pauly .. typical of your kind. In an emergency you finger point and attempt to lay blame. How is the GOP to blame for the oil spill? If anyone's to be blamed – wouldn't it be BP?
How are we supposed to feel sorry for an educated women who if married an ILLEGAL in AR probably helped present FALSE documents so they could get married to create her own problems. ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL. If she is EDUCATED she should tried marrying some LEGAL or take the road to legalization before marrying.
She created the problem
The problem w/ AZ's new immigration law is that it impedes on the rights of Americans!!! Police will be able to stop & detain Hispanics that were born in this country & don't have immigration papers. Legal immigrants can be jailed for 6 months for leaving home w/o papers. I wonder how upset people would be if law enforcement were able to ask every American for birth certificates & other documents whenever they felt like it.
Oil slick disaster: Karma's a jerk
The DOW and that 14,000 dollar target is simply a come on so the guys can dupe us again. Tell Wall Street brokergae houses to train their brokers as carpenters, plumbers and electricians so we can refurbish homes through out the nation to relieve oil consumption.
We are tired of playing your 3 finger Molly game!
Here in NYC, our city has become a sort of lifeline for illegal aliens. We are so overcrowded with people who are uneducated, unskilled and in need of assistance for very large families that they have started since arriving in the U.S.. It is a smack in the face to the those Americans that were living below the poverty line and were hopeful after President Obama, that they would finally be able to improve there lot. As it stands now, thousands of hard working poor woman work in our Parks and around the City for there Welfare Checks and the illegal Alien mothers with several children do not have to work for there checks because they themselves do not receive assistance, there children do.and they are prepared for a law that the City is trying to enact by having children that are under five years old so they would not be forced to leave the children for that many hours etc, and they are receive cash and food stamp assistance in our City as well as rents paid for there housing because there children are classified as special needs so they take full advantage of the resources, and there is a whole host of problems that we have already as Americans living in such a City where rents are astronomical and now we have the strain of millions of Illegal Aliens who are doing everything possible to be sure that they be allowed to break Federal laws, State laws Tax laws and I guess I am really wondering what will happen if they pass the 7th Amnesty soon, will the Illegal Aliens be allowed to continue working under the Falsified I.D.'s that they were using to work and if so will the victims of the I.D. theft be given new S.S. # and name etc. I guess if that happens then they we will see the lawsuits that the lawyers convince them that they are entitled to pensions for the years they worked under those names.
why would Anna flee you would think her husband would. I dont believe that was her husband of boyfriend. He was probably a family memeber like a cousin selling drugs in the streets. I dont feel sorry for her either. Boo hoo. I hope all states adopt this law and no more fleeing from state to state. Enough is enough.
Are you really scared of someone who wants to cut your grass for $2 an hour?
Palin & others in the GOP who touted how safe off shore drilling was a few weeks ago in New Orleans have now become silent. How's that drilly spilly thing working for you? What they saw as a victory when President Obama pacified them by okaying new off shore drilling has now turned into a nightmare for the drill baby drill crowd. I don't suspect she or the GOP will be changing their slogan to spill baby spill anytime soon.
If a person is caught dealing drugs the possessions earned during the profits of crime can be confiscated. Any Immigrant worker caught in a business should be transported directly back to the border and that business that employed illegal immigrants confiscated as well. Go to the source and give the immigrants a break here who are trying to make the best of a bad situation. Arizona screwing itself and blaming illegal immigrants....why are they here...because they are hired by Arizona to begin with, Hope some of you Americans can see what you are doing to yourself? Darn shame dealing with a nation of blind People.
Regarding the oil spill issue. The Federal Government should request support from NASA to help remedy the issue. NASA should have the technical expertise to address the problem.
Your story on the couple being split by the new Arizona law is a bunch of hooey. If she's an American citizen, surely her husbance is allowed to live here legally. So that means they refused to file the paperwork.
She doesn't know when she'll see him again? She can visit him on weekends when he lands in another state.
I came in in the middle so I don't know where he's from. But say he's Mexican, she can go live with him in Mexico and get a job there. Oh, that's right, Mexico doesn't allow foreigners to work there and they enforce their law. What a novel concept!
No wonder CNN is bleeding viewers. You use your news stories to push a point of view, in this case that we should feel sorry for people who break the law.
If I were the President in the White House I'd have the cost of a trip and the return to Venice, Louisiana figured in dollars as close as I could and then send that money to the fishing families for food expense during this early time until these families can get emergency food stamp cards.
If law enforcement gets a report that a black man driving an SUV robbed a liquor store would it be racial profiling if they stopped and checked black men driving SUVs in the vicinity of the liquor store? If law enforcement knows that Mexicans are crossing the border illegally is it racial profiling if they stop and check Mexicans near the border?
You can not blame Facebook for your child's bullying. Facebook has privacy setting to prevent anyone looking at your page if set it up right. I don't think there is anything wrong with Middle School students having a Social Networking page like Facebook. I think parents are just trying to find some way to blame Myspace or Facebook for there child's problems.
Why are people so upset about Arizona's new law? I keep hearing that these immigrants are not criminals. What part of ILLEGAL do they not understand? If you do something illegal then you broke the law which is a crime which makes the person a criminal. I think that every state should have the same law and enforce it. If you don't want to go through the proper channels to come to the United States then suffer the consequences.
I don't feel sorry for the woman who is married to the undocumented immigrant. None whatsoever. He came here illegally, when are we gonna address that issue!! I thought an American could marry an illegal and make him/her a citizen?? What is so hard about him doing the right paperwork to become legal?? If she loves him so much, why don't she go back with him?? And, last reason why I don't feel sorry for them. Did you see the car he was driving away in?? Come on, illegal and doing that nice. Something definately ain't right here.
Interesting interview about the undocumented man leaving Arizona. How about an interview with the rancher's family who recently lost a loved one when he was shot by an illegal on his property. I suspect this law is already working with Mexico issuing travel warnings and undocumented individuals leaving the state. Why not interview those of us who live with this every day and see property destruction, our hospitals in financial ruin, and our tax dollars going to support other services for these individuals. My husband crosses the border every day to go to work. He cannot travel within Mexico without the proper documentation. Why should it be any different in this country?
Who's going to pick lettuce & grapes in AZ's 100+ degree weather if undocumented workers are gone? Most Americans surely won't do the backbreaking work u8nder those conditions. Besides, American workers would have to be paid the minimum wage & receive benefits. Are Americans ready to pay $10.00 for a tomato?
I hear politicians state e-verify would solve the problem. WRONG! Many of these people are paid under the table so the co can avoid paying a fair wage, skirt labor laws & such "unnecessary" costs & paperwork like taxes, health care, etc. How many of the ranches, farms & other AZ industries were built by the sweat of "illegal aliens"?
I think the CNN reporter should have asked Anna the question “Why is your husband still here illegally why has he not started the visa process? “ If CNN is going to report on something do a complete report and ask and air all the questions and answers.
We as americans are supposed to accept the fact that the illegal crossing of our borders is now acceptable. What about the communicable diseases that could be carried with them or the criminals that come across unchecked are these not problems that should concern us all. Will breaking and entering be the next illegal thing you want us to accept.
Please people, stop wining! Next you are going to complain that you should not be asked for a passport when you enter the country! There is nothing wrong with saying if you are not American then you either need to leave or apply for Immigration through the proper channels so you can be documented. I was not born in the U.S. My family applied for immigration in 1984. We are a family of six. Our paperwork came at different times. We were separated for a while and the first of us came legally in 86 and the last of us got here in 92. It was a hardship for us because we lived in a warn torn country. We had no money and we had to travel to another country for our individual appointments at the U.S. embassy which had closed in ours. Still, we persevered. We are grateful to be Americans and living here. We did not feel above the law or entitled to come illegally, not learn the language, not follow the law of the land and have the gall to demand to be treated otherwise! America , stop being so politically correct.
I support the AZ immigration law.
I'm a recent graduated international school. I wanted to live in the States since I was a kid. Now I struggle to do so because I cannot get a job. I try to do the right thing when a lot of people do it illegally. I will have to leave this country if I don't get a job soon. I feel like I've been punished try to do the right thing. So why those illegal immigrants can stay in this country by doing the wrong thing? It doesn't matter where you come from, illegal is illegal. Those people choose to do the wrong thing at the beginning. Another group of people to be blamed is those who hire undocumented labor. Because there's demand so there will always be supply. If the government can do better in checking if any business try to save money by hiring undocumented labor, shouldn't they also be punished?
Good morning guy's, the germans ,itallians.swedes,irish,etc.had to become lagal to come and stay in this country for a better life . They went through a very strict process. Why do the hispanic people think that they are better than any of those people that had to follow and obey the law? They don't have the right to protest if they are not legal. Those rights are reserved for american citizens.Just suck it up do the right thing and follow due process.
Your story about the woman in AZ having to separate from her husband was just ridiculous. I am married to a foreigner and when we came to live in the states in 2001 we applied for a green card for him to live and work her LEGALLY. Why can't her husband do the same? There are a lot of people all over the world who want to immigrate to America. Why do we make some countries follow our immigration laws and others not??
The couple in that last segment have no excuse not to be legal. If she's a US Citizen, she can sponsor her husband on a K-3 Visa. Speaking from experience, the process is not difficult, and can be completed in a just few months. This would be an important fact, and since it wasn't mentioned, leads me to believe they haven't even tried.
Why should Americans feel they are under invasion and fear for their lives in their own country?
Just watching AM.
There's a story on an Arizona couple facing the impact of the new Arizona immigration law. Undocumented alien husband. Throughout the story, the husband's face is blotted out for privacy. However, there is a second or so during the footage where the husband's face is clearly visible. Show editors should take note I believe. It is just after the wife attempts to answer the question: Why marry an undocumented alien?
I really think it is about time that people stand up for AMERICA. Since when do illegals have all the rights and benefits of an American citizen.
They get better education, health care, welfare and even unemployment benefits then an American citizen gets.
Why, just because they came across our border. When are we going to take care of our own.
I have known many people who have gone the correct way to citizenship and I couldn't have been more proud of them. But, just because they cross the border, they are better then us, I don't think so. This is a land of laws, everyone should have to follow the laws, not be given everything just because they cross our border illegally.
Concerning the offshore drilling disaster...I wonder why America doesn't require automatic well shutoffs like many other countries do. I think we need answers from our government officials about this to prevent future disasters.
ILLEGALS are leaving AZ. Great! That is the current Federal Law – you need to be in this country legally. Now we need to have the AZ law for the ENTIRE US so illegals leave the country not the state.
Obama is wrong – we are a county of immigration and laws. We do not need immigration reform for this. BTY – what is Mexico laws on immigration – yes I know them – and they should be adopted here in this county.
Anna's husband(who apparently doesn't speak english) and other "mexicans" are fleeing because they know they in America illegally. They will just go to a different state.
the problem with the Az law is the likes of Sheriff Arpaio & others, whose terrible treatment of minorities while in jail is well known. What happens when the jails are so overcrowded with those who are unfortunate enough to not have the proper documents? Az is becoming the racist capital of the US, least it is appearing that way.
It seems everyone has forgotten about the other part of this story, 11 people dead in oil rig explosion
Your story headline states people are leaving Arizona in fear. What is there to fear if they are legit and have their "papers"? I produce my drivers license all the time to prove my identity. I could say I am also being "profiled". This conceept of profiling is way overblown and seems to be a convenient argument to deflect publicity from the real issues. It is resurrected in a similar way to racism!
Hey, Lisa Smith of Plano, TX, why don't YOU stop calling them "undocumented immigrants"? They HAVE "documents". Those "documents" are either unacceptable, stolen or fake, but they have them. Furthermore, why do people like seem to think that America should be the only nation on Earth that should NOT define and enforce it's own immigration and entry laws? Why should WE be the dumping ground for the excess populations of the Catholic World? Let the Pope take care of them. They're HIS problem, not ours.
Thank you CNN for the interview John Roberts just hosted with Tammy about soldier suicides.
If I were the CEO of Halliburton, Exxon, Shell or any other company in the gigantically profitting oil industry that were having the U.S. Military bodyguard and protect the companies employees during this Iraq war I would go into immediate action to contact Tammy. I would this day call in the advertising agency and told them that our advertising focus was about to take a major shift.
I would feature the humanitarian side of the deeds that came from the soldier and vetrans of Iraq's castrophe and show the changes for the better. I would feature soldiers in ads and I would sponsor veteran reunions so these guys can get together often and allow their developed love and closeness to buffer the strife caused by seperation of their commraderie. Close the gap that has developed by these guys and gals seperation.
The day tha Iraq voted just recently I walked across the street and thanked an Iraqi' vet for his service in doing his part in allowing those people the right to vote or not vote. We both laughed that things in Iraq are as corrupt as here in America, He has gone through his divorce since he returned and trying to sell the house. I am a veteran and our other neighbor is a Purple Heart receipent from the Viet Nam war. The Viet vet and I keep a close eye on this Iraq vet.
But Exxon, Halliburton, Shell ,etc. should begin promoting the good will that our soldiers did over there.
These guys don't suffer from PTSD because the Iraq war isn't over. These guys suffer from Active Inabilty to Relieve Sorrow! AIRS!
Reunions of these men and women by Pro-Active means by corporations wil help. Can't the Clinton-Bush fund find jobs for some of these guys in organizing diaster response from these volunteers?
Can't miltary leaders
Let's talk about how 'Smart' the people are whom designed this oil platform...oh yea, let's talk how smart the big men who made this disaster of an 'oil bomb' in the gulf...prosecute them now...
How on earth could a foreign oil company (BP) be permitted to drill in U.S. waters without the same safety measures and equipment as required in their home country and other places (i.e., emergency remote shutoff)?
You report that people here illegally are concerned and are going back to Mexico. Is that a bad thing?
Whose fault is it that 5 out of 6 illegal aliens comes from Latin America? THIS is the backlash against all of those Million-illegal marches four years ago.
Mexico's gov't has more crooks and special interests than the US Congress...I'd want to leave their too...
I am tired of hearing people complain about immigration...plain and simple, You don't like something, fix it! When tankers have oil it is not the militaries problem (in reality). I do feel bad that the spill happened and that people were hurt but it was bound to happen sooner or later. I think it should be looked into to see if someone was paid to keep their mouth shut about the problems on the rig. That is what bothers me.
How does law enforcement in Arizona expect to enforce this law without racial profiling? I don't see them stopping blondes or reheads. Of they do, it will be only so it looks likes they're not racial profiling. Reports are focusing in on Mexicans, but are they going to be stopping Asiana also? And if you are a Mexican that is living in this country legally, I can only imagine how many times they will be stopped for their papers over their lifetime.
@ Randall....Or may someone didn't do their job right?!
Whereas the law is the law I believe this law comes to little to late. Our government always put the illegal immigration problem on the back burner and now the chickens are coming home to roost by way of laws that may be legally sound but not in the spirit of our country.. illegal Mexican immigration is no longer a legal matter but a human one
The oil leaking into the Gulf waters is a terrible disaster. What is worrying is the fact that it might take some time to stop up the leak. it's an environmental catastrophe. As horrible a situation as exists within this oil tragedy, an even worse problem is looming concerning our aging nuclear facilities. We should be proactive in assuring the safety and proper functioning of nuclear sites.
I say if the government wants to get involved they should place the soldiers we have available along the border and not just in certain areas and add a few towers
I find it highly ironic that illegal aliens are protesting the new law in Arizona and that they are getting so much air time. Do all criminals get so much air time on CNN? The police and military should attend these "rallies" and round up the illegal aliens that attend those anti-American protests.
All persons that are against the new law are anti-American and are attempting to destroy America. The Government needs to step up and protect American CITIZENS.
Thinking about sending the military to help with the oil spill but won't send in the military to stop the invasion that is happening? Won't use the military to help save American lives? That is the purpose of the military.
If you want to stop illegal immigration you must get rid of the factors that cause it. Some of those factors are:
NAFTA and other Free Trade Agreements, which work to the detriment of South American nations. The US, through NAFTA was able to put Mexican farm workers out of business; they simple couldn't compete with US subsidized corn which is plentiful and cheap.
Free trade works to the benefit of the US because US companies can open up sweat shops in other nations and import the products made there free of cost, this while the indigenous population en mass is impoverished. They are not Mexican companies, for example, manufacturing car parts and making the money from sales thereof. Rather, they are American companies who come into the country and see a ready supply of workers who were left without jobs due to cheap American corn importation.
Why is it that a demonstration by tea partiers of a gew hundred gets wall to wall coverage while a protest of six thousand protestors against Wall Street gets a second or two of coverage with no interviews?? Doesn't sound "fair and balanced" to me.
Troy F. are you saying someone such as a Greenpeace took the lives of 11 workers and were placing their act for all those others to be witness too? Tremenously underthought!
I feel it is time to lose the word "spill"! Spill is what happens and you see eveidence of on the concrete at gasoline stations. I believe we can call this a deadly and punishing eruption that brought on a ravaging flood. It is a flood not a spill.
It is truly evidence that the Industrial Revolution has ran afoul and it can truly be siad it is a weapom of mass destruction at work.
Yet the Adam Smith economic sysytem will proceed wildly along and the news will speak of money, money and more money lost. It isn't about money at all yet it is about food. And the President rather than staying at home at the White House will burn his thousands of gallons to appear onsite.
The totally non productive world of Professional Sports will proceed wastefully along and no one will reduce their carbon footprint. Jet setters will continue their foolish trips and arrogant galavanting the globe while the natural systems suffer from their emissions.
This oil that was never converted to gasoline is killing without carbon dioxide fumes. As the Pearl River grows more polluted the style conscious America has no change insight.
From the comic strip Pogo I submit: "We have met the enemy and he is us!"
Good Morning CNN,
Please stop referring to UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS as illegals, illegal aliens &/or illegal immigrants no1 BORN on PLANET EARTH can ever be an illegal anything. In addition, HUMAN BEINGS can only be in a COUNTRY UNLAWFULLY not illegally. Thx.
Has there been any talk about the oil rig being an act of sabotage? I find it odd that no sooner are new areas of exploration opened up and this happens. sounds like an environmental group took a radical step.
I was thinking... will this AZ law, if declared "unconstitutional" have any affect on the Federal Law already in place? Or will the Fed Gov't do as normal and say the Fed Law is for the good of the people?
