Police scour video, evidence in Times Square bomb try
Law enforcement officials early Monday pored through evidence, including a 20-second video, after a failed car bombing attempt in Times Square over the weekend.
The video released by authorities showed an image of a man, who police say is possibly connected to the attempted bombing, changing his shirt along a New York street. A balding man with dark hair is seen removing a shirt and putting it in a bag before walking out of the camera's view from inside a restaurant.
The investigation was focusing on examinations of a Nissan Pathfinder where the attempted homemade bomb was placed. New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Sunday that the vehicle was being combed for fingerprints, hair, fibers and other evidence that may help identify who was responsible. Read more
Oil slick awaits NOLA's new mayor
The first white mayor of New Orleans in more than 30 years steps into his first challenge as soon as he takes office Monday: the massive oil slick that is creeping to his coast.
The fallout from a ruptured undersea well off Louisiana is spewing about 210,000 gallons (5,000 barrels) of crude a day into the Gulf of Mexico. And efforts to corral the rapidly growing oil spill have so far been unsuccessful. Read more

Thanks for the comments everyone. See you back here tomorrow, bright and early!
I think the worst thing we(Americans) could have done was to let ourselves get over run by these terrorists. We should have taken care of them the same time we toke out S. Hassan. We made our mistake and now we have to deal with the end results. We should have US Custom check all Aliens coming to our country completely stating with backgound ckecks through their countrys. It is time that we take serious action against the radical groups, starting with the ones in our country. Wm Crabbe
we, as new yorkers, are the target...due to our freedom. tons of other countries have freedom too, so what's their "chiz" with us? obama's got a good story to tell his grandkids on his FAST action-___-
I feel that everyone cries, but no tears, when are we going to do something!!! HUH, keep OBAMA in, then WE deserve what we get!!! USA is the way!!!
It's good to know that when we kick him out of office in 2012, Obama will have his "COMEDY" career to fall back on.
Fossil fuel, carbon footprints, the footprints lead to all of everyones gas tanks!!! I call it
"Rape of the natural world"!!! These were animal's, people at one time!!! Carbon is what we are made of!!! Oh, How thoughless of me, We
need the gas!!! USA is the way!!!
Good Morning guys I'm back.
I certainly miss your smiles. What a mess the oil companies of the world have made of God's gift. If I was President Obama I would be talking to Mazda about their RX-8 HRE. A car that runs on water. And I would be talking to the people who worked on John Kanzius Radio wave technology. Where they lit salt water on fire.
I once said the oil companies are no longer in charge. This is God's planet and He's come back to claim it.
Have a great day guys. And peace to you and your families
I am wondering why is there such an uproar over the Arizona law on immigration. Were was the uproar over racial profiling against blacks and that is still going on. We have forgotten that coming to this country illegally is still against the law. If you are here legally, you should not mind if they have to profile to separate the two. Remember a lot of foreigners have come here legally. Why are we so sensitive and making exceptions to our neighbors south of the border?
I was watching the story on the mom leaving for the Army.
I have lived through that moment – from the parent who stays behind with the children.
Children deal with deployment in their own unique way.
Our youngest was 2 when my husband deployed the first time. Every night Levi (our son) would make sure that he had a pair of dads combat boots (ones that he had seen dad wear) in his bed with him. That brought him comfort – And made me smile every night – knowing that there was no way he was going to forget his daddy (which is a concern for the parent who has to leave)
Our other 3 kids had their own ways of dealing with the deployment –
I'm proud of how our family has served our country – it was tough – but we did it (and are ready to do it again if and when we are called to)
Our prayers are with the young family. Thanks for your service to our country.
On the issue of the new female recruit. I fail to understand why she needs to join the army. I don't get the patriotism thing at all. She could be a nurse ... a much more valuable contribution. If she is joining for economic reasons it still doesn't make sense. The US armed forces need to prohibit women who are already mothers from joining up. The forces are not a social experiment ... they need fighting men. Enough said.
President Obama says that BP will pay the bill for the clean up of this oil disaster. One Question I haven't heard is, are they liable for the economic loss to the fishing and tourism industry?
Morning guys. I have a question. Isn't it the state government's responsibility to ask for federal government help so the fed. doesn't get accused of oversteping the states soverienty? Don't they have to wait before sending troops till the States gov. ask? By the way, surprised to hear the admission by Rush Limbaugh that Bush mishandled the Katrina emergency.Slight slip of the lip there in a rush to condem Obama.
Good Idea Dan... that should be the motto of US foreign policy. It is was – we would be a target for so many in the world.
New Yorker's keep an extra eye on your streets!!! Quit blaming everyone and find out first!!! Its not OBAMA'S fault, it's our country, our streets we all are to blame!!! The president's office can be won, impeachment, then vote in a winner!!! USA is the way!!!
Pauly, id you see CNN's interview of Robert Kennedy, Jr. either Thursday or Friday afternoon? It was so informative. It seems that deregulation of the oil industry allowed a fool proof safety system to be removed from American ocean drilling operations. He said this safety measure is allowed on all well drilling in the North Sea and one other place that America government doesn't regulate.
If only CNN's editors would allow it to be replayed but they have a large advertisement account with BP I am sure. It is just like Governor Spitzer's interview about the Goldmn Sachs robbery.
I swear if I don't get my hands on my Ben Hogans and get to the golf course one time before spring is over then I'll spend summer in a straight jacket at a Veteran's Hospital! ...lol
What should the Federal Government attempt to "fix" next – the oil spill or the invasion of Illegal Aliens?
I mean treat people the same way as you would want to be treated.
With all the oil rigs already in the Gulf & the GOP calling for more, why didn't Bobby Jindal & others have some kind of emergency response plan? The Gulf states have licked their chops over the years w/ the flow of oil industry cash to their coffers. Now it's the federal govt's duty to protect their shores?
As Gov, Jindal could have mobilized the National Guard immediately. Why did he wait for assurances that DC would foot the bill? Why are all those who have been complaining about the federal govt being too involved in their lives now begging for the govt to come to their rescue?
The criticism of DC is just a diversion from the fact that the Gulf states were unprepared for an accident waiting to happen. During every hurricane, there are worries about the oil rigs & oil refineries. Why wasn't a plan & a fund for such emergencies in place?
Way too much coverage and speculation about this "Times Square bombing". Could have been anything from a hoax, to the act of a nutbar acting on the voices in his head . Calm down everyone and let the police pursue their investigation.
PS the "furtive " guy changing his shirt just looks like a guy who decides he's too warm and is removing an extra layer of clothing.
Item #1: I wish we Americans all had our "carbon footprint" (oil Consuming measures) available and then rather than the National Guard being called out to assist the affected states we could just call out those with the largest carbon footprints to assist those in distress in the oil spill.
Item # 2: The young lady going to begin her military career is so much like the past recruits in our military in that she is driven by economic need. Too bad millionaires and billionaires sons and daughters never go because they are reaping the greatest amount of America's imperial spoils.
Item # 3: We must not forget our huge military base with all that oil under it because we will be in Iraq until the oil is gone.
Item # 4: Warren Buffett backs his $500 million investment in Goldman Sachs by saying there was no fraud, But he is not being true because anytime Goldman Sachs lets a customer create his own investment vehichle and it is short then he is saying to them "now you go find buyers. These guys knew long beforehand that the home mortage world was down the tubes.
Item # 4: Until the United States of Arrogance stops it's oil gluttony and our nuclear armament of the Middle East we will continue seeing terrorist attempts or acts of terroism. Israel has over 300 nuclear armed weapons and America is Israel. Ask Rohm Emanuel!
Right now in this country there is political war and political sabotage. The oil rig incident is not Obama's Katrina. The concern should be focused on resolving the issue.
The police officer who was murdered in Detroit this morning had a ten year old son and the soldier who left to join the army has a two year old daughter. I believe that, in any branch of the military or at any level of law enforcement, those who put their lives in danger are serving their country; I hope that the other four wounded officers are going to be okay.
We are assuming way to much. You know what happens when you assume. Our president is a useless piece of Crap. Can't we all just get along, seriously? Our fist step would be to get Obama out of office!Nicholasville ky
Good Morning CNN
Is there any connection to New York Citys bomb scare and the BP oil disaster? No table can be left unturned in a investigation, I learned that in working with the law
It sounds like a very amateurish 'bomb' like we might put together in Chem 101. One wonders who could be so childish and also so mean and nasty to want to hurt people.
It's a shame that there is so much hatred in the world today. I just wish that all mothers would teach their children to learn to love one another and to treat people as they would want to be treated. Maybe then in a generation or two we all might be able to live in peace with our neighbors while learning to show respect for each other.
Your comment, "Was the Obama administration too slow" in response to the natural diaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Please tell me, what was the Federal Government supposed to do that they haven't done to date? Yes, wouldn't we all like to reach down in the depths and turn off the oil well! Have a cup of coffee and breath in some reality!
John ... Kiran,
As faithful listeners of yours ... Your two voices are the first sounds I hear each weekday morning.
Well not really ! ... you are preceeded by your horrible musical selection of drums and cymbals crashing in an insane arrangement.
Now you guys have been up for hours, while my ears are still awakening ... Please tell someone to spare me at 6:00 AM so I can start my day with just seeing Kiran's great smile and John's new suit (except on Friday's informal dress day !).
Change the music please !

IF it is the jihadist as you claim .. is it any wonder? ... Does the term "chickens coming home to roost" mean anything to you?
The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility before more info became public. Terror orgs want to install fear & the notion of the Taliban being able to strike in NYC would scare a lot of people.
I wonder if they would like to retract their claim now that it has become evident that the person responsible was an idiot! Non-explosive fertilizer, consumer grade fireworks & amateurish wiring for the detonation suggests this McVeigh wannabe lacked any knowledge or training in explosives.
He thought removing the vehicle's VIN & placing stolen plates on the vehicle would prevent authorities from identifying it. There are several serial numbers throughout the vehicle. Many stamped on metal components of the engine. An explosion wouldn't have harmed these.
He was also unaware of the security cameras in NYC. He left the engine running & the emergency flashers on. I suspect when he is arrested, it will be shown that he has closer ties to the Tea Party than the Taliban!
@Water-MeLoN WOW what a come back...you sure got me there. I mean what are we to do without you pointing out the obvious. 😉 I think that NY is on top of things and that vigilence is the key. I think that is where the true power will come against the jihadist is our vigilence. In Pakistan and Afganistan they can run around like cockroaches in the dark undetected. Here we have camera and lights...easy to see suspecious behavior here.
Obama needs new writers.
Why did some blame Bush for Katrina?
I'm curious who's going to end up paying for most of the oil spill clean up? It would be sad if BP only pays a few dollars in the short term clean up and taxpayers end up paying for the long term environmental impact.
Why blame the President for the oil slick? This is so silly - so partisan - just look at who those are who are saying such things. I support our President. He came to office with such a mess and has worked daily and very hard to help our country overcome these problems. Mr. President, I appalud you and the work you have done in such challenging circumstances.
STOP THE INVESTIGATION! Solvo has it all figured out already. We can all sleep better now. ... lol...
I don't understand why your network has aired nothing of the historic flooding in middle Tennessee over the weekend. There are people such as myself needing to know what's happening with family members and friends but your news organization has been of no use! Over the past two days you continue to repeat the same stories about a bomb scare and an oil spill. It's ok to add something else in there! Please tell me what's happening in Nashville.
That isn't proof of anything. Probably a few "groups" making claims to it.
While it is stated that BP will pay the bill, how much of what is paid will be exempted from their taxes?
Maybe it was illegal aliens trying a different form of terrorism in their attempt to destroy the US?
Please google Pakistan Taliban group claims NY bomb attempt. If that is not proof that it was a jihadist car bomb..not sure what is Melon..want to apologize to me now for "ASSUMING" what I was typing was garbage?
Is there any connection between the bomb threat in Time Square and the bomb scare in Pittsburgh, PA. that was found yesterday during the Pittsburgh Marathon? Seems a bit odd that President Obama was in NY at the time of the Time Square bomb threat. One has to wonder if these events are taking place due to the increase number of hate groups and militia activity that have been on the rise in this country.
@Melon HAHAH!! you don't watch the news much do you. The Taliban have already taken responsibility for the attempt. I can't post a link here so..LOOK IT UP!! OMG!!! melon =epic fail
Let's not get ahead of ourselves by assuming that Saturday's incident in Times Square has anything to do with Jihadist, for all we know it could be domestic terrorism, it could be a test to gauge response time, it could be a number of things. What we don't know is who is responsible, therefore it is irresponsible to blindly and without evidence suggest it's jihadist. Doing so will limit our view leaving us wide open to further attacks.
Solvo how do you KNOW it was Islamic jihadist?... or are you just spewing garbage?
So glad no one was hurt in the bombing. Goes to show those islamic jihadist still thristing for American blood. I am wondering how they are going to deal with "Draw Muhammad Day" coming up. The chick who started it has backed down because of religious oppression(threats from islamist) but other people have picked up the cause. Just another excuse I guess for Jihadist to behead people and blow things up.
"the current presidential administration" is doing it's best to derail it's self.
Governor Jindal rallied against the stimulus, yet accepted most of the funds that were available to Louisiana. He's now critical of the federal government's efforts to shut off the oil well; is he going to change his mind if their fortunes turn?
Good Morning CNN!
Saturday night in New York we were reminded once again that Americans are targets for all kinds of American haters in the world.
Too much "glad handing; pat on the backs going on in Times Sq. They actually were too late(Officials). The Pathfinder "Found it's way on Manhattan Island. Got threw a tunnel, or a bridge – (??-!!
It's all about the money for oil companies and again a clear example of corporations controlling the enactment of laws through lobbying. This could have been prevented and yet all people seem to care about is who to blame. Cleanup and blame later.
Is there any connection with the bomb threat in New York, and the simultaneous Correspondence Dinner in Washington DC.? The programing of the Correspondence event was stopped shortly after the opening remarks. There was a long pause on TV and then the bomb threat in NY was reported/ released. Just wondering if this is another effort to derail the current presidential administration.
Good Morning!!!
