CNN investigates America's threat from within

(CNN) – Faisal Shahzad is not the first U.S. citizen linked to a home-grown terror plot. Others have pleaded guilty in similar cases. But how do everyday Americans become radicalized and turn against their country?

Senior international correspondent Nic Robertson joined us on Monday's American Morning with a preview of an in-depth CNN investigation, "American al Qaeda."

Program Note: You can catch more of Nic's report and our in-depth investigation "American al Qaeda" tonight on AC360 at 10 P.M. ET, only on CNN.

Hey everybody, just because this country HAS to protect and control its borders DOES NOT MAKE IT A POLICE STATE. This is some thing that should be done anyway but, our federal government is full of incompetent idiots who don't listen to the people. Its time for a change, a real change, we need smart younger politicians in Congress and get rid of the the old and pathetic do nothing one we now have in the poop hole called D.C. we need new blood in Congress instead of the CLOTS that are there now!!!!

Terrorists have killed about 3500 Americans on American soil since 9/11. More Americans than that die from flu every month. More Americans than that are killed by other Americans every year in gang fights, drug deals, family fights, and faculty meetings. More Americans than that die every year from complications associated with aspirin. A hundred times more Americans die from alcohol and drug abuse.

We could save more lives enforcing seat belt laws than installing underpants x-ray machines in our airports.

We need to prioritize. Terrorism is not that big of a deal.

I'm more worried about the nuthead traitors (democrat and republican are one and the same) we have leading this country than the terrorists (its all false flag stuff anyways). We have to get our fiscal house in order (Abolish the FED-its run by the banks, not your country), bring our troops back home (the only thing wars benefit are oil interests, military contractors, banks and politicians), and deal with the illegal immigrants (they are cheap labor for the rich and destabilize the economy). We don't need to become a police state like the traitors of this country want us to become. It is the elites (one world order) way of taking away your freedoms so that they can dictate what you do and say. Read the United States Constitution and any time someone says that our country was founded as a democracy, let the have it with both barrels and inform them that this country is a REPUBLIC! Our founding fathers DID NOT want a democracy, and warned us against it. We are a nation based on laws and not mobocracy (democracy) like everyone would have you believe. You have been lied to for years by our leaders = traitors and educators = mostly foreign immigrants (look at any college campus and they are from India, Asia, Pakistan, or who knows where)?, yet everyone wants to believe that these are the good guys. Trust me, their not....

A naturalized citizen of Pakistani descent is NOT an average everyday American.

The reason terrorists exist and continue to be able to recruit is because of the lack of honesty in our world. Our government has been incredibly dishonest with the American people and the world in many things it has done, wars it has started, conflicts it has created, drug activity it has been involved with and even acts against the American people. Even out financial system was wrecked and set into chaos because of a lack of openness and honesty. Our environment is on a perilous threshold of disaster because we will not be honest with ourselves about what we have done and continue to do. And yes, other governments and countries have done the same.
But that does not make any of the acts right or justified. Until we simply begin to truly value, respect and demand honesty from ourselves, with others and about others, we will continue to create terrorists of some kind.
And it really is that simple. The world’s apathy about the truth of things allows terrorists to organize. Whether it is gangs or foreign terrorists or military or protestors, they will continue to emerge and recruit until, above all else, truth and honesty is paramount in our way of life. Terrorists or protestors or revolutionaries are simply demanding the truth.
It is ours to change. If we can become honest, even begin with being honest with ourselves, we can change our world…simply and peacefully.

The law is the law. If you are a US citizen, then you should be afforded all the rights of all citizens – even if you are a terrorist. I don't agree with these nut cases, but if they are US citizens, then we must give them miranda rights – as our constitution says. That's our law!

If they're from other countries, then they should be treated as terrorists and put in a deep dark place forever!

Maybe its time to slow down on letting just any one into our country???
Think about it, a country so free that freedom now becomes the
shackle of the peoples safety and security. Look what happened at Fort Hood Texas, The Shooter there was a Major who was a Dr. who could not resist the needs of the Quran. How sad but true, we must now look at and evaluate the need for this country's safety and Security. We were very lucky that a lot of people where not killed in N.Y.
That situation is a WARNING to the rest of us and we must also CONTROL our borders.

Why are you so fixated on AL Qaeda. We have other home grown threats, like the militia members arrested in Michigan for trying to lure police into a kill zone, or Timothy McVeigh who almost killed as many in Oklahoma City than the WTC attack, the uni bomber, Or the sniper, or the Klan dragging someone to death are all forms of terrorism. today the far right like neo Nazi's and skin heads are arming up for a showdown as we keep looking to the east, more attacks will come.

If we want to stop the attacks from the mid east, just pull out of their lands. Let them turn the clock back, as we make advances in medicine, space and technology, stop buying Saudi oil as it funds radical fundamentalism. If we do that and keep beaming in our culture through the internet, the people there will rise up against their leaders as as they did in Iran. American policy and the media give Al Qaeda its purpose to exist

citizenUSA, you are a fool. Fear has become the primary motivator in our society. We continue to give up our way of life piece by piece because of the actions of a few. In that, the terrorists have truely won.

Look at the results of 9/11. We have the patriot act and homeland security. In the past few years, the documents coming out of DHS have defined 80% of Americans as potential terrorists. There is the no fly list which skirts due process and the only way you know you are on the list is by going to an airport and trying to get on a plane.

I am sure that you are wrong about the founding fathers. I am sure that they would have held fast to their core beliefs that defined the constitution and created this country.

This is really rediculous that people do this. They're brought up in the greatest country in the world and given everything they want, then they turn around and join groups like al qaeda??? What selfish jerks!! They're given everything they could possibly want, and theyre throwing it away for something as stupid as this. Come on people, really? Grow up and think a little bit, and learn to be more appreciative.

Holding 3 Billion Americans to tote the line 24/7 without any violence nor crime breaking out is literally impossible. And every-time 0.001% of American's take part in a violent protest, 100% of American's lose significant freedoms, rights and liberty's.

It is entirely a Lose-Lose situation. There is always going to be people in America that are entirely unhappy with the graft, corruption and blind justice that American's living on Main Street have to live with and deal with 24/7.

I guess everything that can be said about the Al Qaeda/Talibutt threats have been said. Sure I'd love to keep this a free and open country. But not at the risk of American lives. No one needs to think America is scared. We are being protectful. It is ludacris to think that we can still live with all the ideals our founding fathers had over 200 years ago. I'm sure they did not expect the world to turn out this way. I'm sure they would change things.

Our policy should be that if you are traveling to or from one of these problem countries, you should be put through the most rigorous screenings we can devise especially trying to get in.
