Primaries put incumbents on the line
(CNN) – Tuesday's primary contests will put the nation's anti-Washington mood to the test as voters choose between incumbents and anti-establishment candidates.
The races come in the wake of some tough blows to sitting lawmakers: Sen. Bob Bennett, a three-term senator, failed to advance at the Utah GOP convention, and Rep. Alan Mollohan didn't win over fellow Democrats in last week's West Virginia primary.
Leaders of both parties agree - it's a tough year for experienced politicians.
"There is no question. There is, at this moment, an anti-incumbent mood," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California. And House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, warned, "It's 'politicians beware.' "

Oil spill 'not near the end' as Day 2 of hearings begins
Hearings continue for a second day in the Senate on Tuesday as lawmakers assess the response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, where a ruptured well continues to gush thousands of barrels of crude.
Three hearings are scheduled, with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar testifying to lawmakers in two of them. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Thad Allen and BP America Chairman Lamar McKay will speak at the third.
On Monday, oil company BP touted its progress toward plugging the massive spill, but the Obama administration said the disaster is far from over. Read more

When Obama said it was time for change he was dead serious and some people dont even have change .
Change change change that's what America has left in there pockets is loose change and no dollars .
If I was Arlan Specter's advisor I'd say, Look Arlen old friend let's go righteous and form the SO team. Yes the SO team and go down in World history as the greatest politicians ever to live in modern American society! Let's grab that old retiring Conressman Obey and he is the O in the SO and throw whistles around your neck an his and don't go back to D.C. as lobbyists but as whistleblowers and undo and expose all the corruption of corporations and the wealthy thathas poisioned the nation where others have died in your behalf!

What America needs is a complete system overall. Get rid of Democrats and Republicans and replace them with Americans.
Response to MeLoN: Changing parties does not make Specter a "turncoat." When the party you are affiliated moves in a direction you cannot abide, switching parties means staying true to your principles and to the people you represent. I live in Pennsylvania and I would much rather be represented by someone who stands up than by someone who allows him- or herself to be dragged along in the wrong direction.
MeloN the answer is not in the canidates lord knows we have been through that spill before! Ron Paul and Rand Paul are not any answer and lord I know man as I am surround by liberterians and live in Texas where there are more Baptists than people.
The answer is in you! Within in you ignited by your sinew. That part that yells hold on just before the tears begin to swellup when you are about to cry when you realize that men have corrupted our America...
The sinew where the many unite to do the mightyt! The answer is we take our institutions back and we take our elected offices that are compromise 546 offices that control the lives of some 300 million people. We will do it with 21st century technolgy and not the current 18th century technology we are ruled through.

Lafenmom, do you believe voting incumbents out of office will change anything? After Scott Brown was elected, he campaigned to get his daughter back on American Idol, signed a book deal, started campaigning for his comrades & then started fundraising for his re-election campaign in '12.
Unfortunately, all we have are career politicians. Average Americans have no chance of running for office today. The SCOTUS made sure this wouldn't change when they got rid of the ceiling on corporate donations. It's definitely time to get rid of the same old politicians but soon, the newcomers will be the incumbents of today. The only change will be their names. They & their votes will be bought by corporate America.
You just showed photos of Arlen Specter and Joe Sestak onscreen. You had Sestak labeled "Sen." He is not a senator, he is a representative–member of Congress. Your graphic needs to be revised. 🙂
The ACLU (Alien Civil Liberties Union) is anti-American and on the same level as ACORN was.

Look where the 'incumbents' have taken us – millions of illegal aliens protesting for their rights, Obama's auntie ignoring a court order and getting rewarded for it, mega-corporations too big to fail, stealing us blind and giving themselves bonuses out of bail out funds, unknown substances from China being put in our water as 'flouride' that doesn't dissolve as flouride should, land being stolen from VT farmers..

Has anyone else noticed that BP is NOT trying to stop the leak by plugging the pipe? Everything they have tried so far has been designed to capture the escaping oil for their use
The original containment dome was designed not to just stop the oil from spreading but to allow it to be tapped and removed to a vessel waiting above. This new "pipe fix" is capturing some oil from the leak but allowing more to escape. There is talk of a "junk shot" to seal the pipe but that is all talk. The relief wells being drilled will not seal the well but will allow the oil to be diverted to alternate pipes. All this is to save some of the investment the BP has made in the well.
It is time that someone confronts BP and DEMANDs the pipe be sealed. And if BP will not seal it, or is not capable, the US Government might mobilize the Army Corps of Engineers or the Navy Seabees to seal the pipe. Alternately the Government could tell BP to get out of the way and offer a bounty to the first company that can seal it, payable only after success.
The tyrants in American society are winning because they are so aggressive. They seek to corrupt the institutions and to overtake by their influence any place or thing where the decision making processes of American life occur. They are not new and only created by the origination ofour society as tyrannts have sought to infect and control governments and other facets of life since the beginning of time. The oil corporations use the elected officials as stenographers of what the corporation feels is best for them. Our forfathers freed us from the tyranny of King George.
All men are created equal I believe. Tyrannts believe that some men are not created equal hence there was a civil war in America but the civil war stopped slavery and didn't stop the tyranny in America.
I hope Brandon can suck it up and be the man of the house. His wife is making the most personal and ultimate sacrifice she can to support and he can't babysit his own daughter...What a wimp!!!!!

On Jeannie Most's story about the Taco Bell – what did the customer do wrong? They were handed money. Ethically, yeah, there's a question. However, Fire the Manager!!! This is clear stupidity by the manager of teir restaurant and the owner. Also, Taco Bell's franchisee training needs a major redo. Why didn't they put the receipts in a bank bag?

Yesterday, a report in a pediatrics journal showed a ten-fold increase in children w/ MRSA infections. CNN & other media reported non-stop on MRSA a few years ago. At least for awhile. Now studies like this are ignored. MRSA is killing people, including children, and the media thinks primaries in AR & KY are more important!

BP has been stating that the amount of oil leaking is not important, it doesn't matter if 5,000 or 50,000 barrels are leaking. It makes a huge difference. Yesterday they claimed they were siphoning 1,000 barrels. That would be 20% of 5,000 but only 2% of 50,000. Now they are claiming to be siphoning half the leaked oil. Is that half of what they claim is leaking or half of the actual oil leaking?
Politics should be a part time job.

I agree w/ Donna Brazile, the media should get rid of the pundits. I'm tired of hearing their opinions on everything. They are portrayed as experts on everything in the world. They usually offer nothing more than the party line of the day.
I would like it to be taken a step further however. Quit letting the politicians make uninterrupted speeches. If you're going to interview a lawmaker, challenge them on the subject instead of letting them ramble on w/ lies & talking points. If you know what they are saying is false, you owe it to the American people to call them on it.
Wouldn't throwing a soft drink on the employee working the drive thru window be a crime?
You should view the TEDTalk by Jamie Oliver (the chef) where he demonstrates two bottles of chocolate milk per day for the 5 years children are in elementary school equal a wheel barrow of sugar.

How can the media judge the anti-incumbent mood based on the PA primary? Isn't Sestak an incumbent? Just because he's running for the Senate rather than the House now doesn't change the fact that he's part of DC. He's an incumbent of Congress!!!
Just a couple of short weeks ago, 3 incumbents won their primaries. Did this prove pro-incumbent fever? Most candidates are/were part of govt prior to running now. Most are professional politicians.

It's ridiculous how the media & their talking heads are promoting these primaries as some kind of major election. The media is once again trying to make the news rather than report it. Politics 24/7 is getting a bit annoying for many of us.
As far as the anti-incumbent feeling in this country, it's been going on for awhile. People have been pushing for term limits for many years now. Politicians are now too busy worrying about the next election than fixing the problems faced by Americans. The campaigning begins immediately after the last elections.
Unfortunately, electing new lawmakers won't change much. The newcomers will be driven by campaign contributions/lobbyists just as the incumbents were. It doesn't matter which party they go w/ or if they go independent or as tea party candidates. It's time for new faces but the same old corruption & vices will live on.

That student from Harvard who allegedly faked his credentials is a disgrace not only to himself but to his institution. While the student deserves his punishment for defrauding his own school, Harvard is not completely blameless. The school administration should be more circumspect in screening future applicants as well as its current students.

The only video I've seen of the underwater oil leak has been grudgingly provided by BP. Has the US Navy taken any of its mini-subs down there to take an independent look and measurement of the leak ? Why hasn't the EPA demanded that ? BP says 5000 bbl per day, others say up to 40,000 bbl per day. Is BP lying to cover their butts and limit potential liability ??? Is the fox guarding the henhouse ?
