Militants attack Bagram Air Base

From Atia Abawi, CNN

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) – Nearly a dozen insurgents and a U.S. contractor were killed when a group launched an early morning attack on Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan on Wednesday, officials said.

Nine service members were wounded and a building received minor damages during the attack, which included rockets, small arms and grenades. Four of the slain insurgents were "intended suicide bombers," the military said.

U.S. Army spokesman Lt. Col. Clarence Count Jr. said the insurgents failed "to breach the perimeter" and were "unable to detonate their suicide vests."

"The quick defensive reaction by the Bagram security forces likely saved a lot of lives," he said.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told CNN that 20 armed men wearing suicide vests stormed the base around 4 a.m. (7:30 p.m. Tuesday ET), with four them detonating at the entrances to allow the other men to move in. Mujahid said that a "major firefight" took place inside the base. Read more

Why are you all concered with Mexico?? This is an American War not Mexican. And the person who commented about that there war is better. No war in any country is good. I dont think we should compare, but if it make you feel better go ahead. Any loss of live or injury is sad no matter the numbers.

My cousin is a proud Air Force pilot serving at Bagram Air Force Base. I thank God that he and his squadron are safe, and my heart goes out to the family of the contractor who was killed. What it comes down to is that our family members are over there, doing us and our country proud by risking their lives. May God keep them all safe, and help our governnment and all involved find an end to all this conflict.

I wish you the best of luck A1C Montes. My prayers are with all of our very brave service members! As for Steve, what are you talking about? You sound like a very immature person trying to act like a grown up. Perhaps you should join the real world like A1C Montes and fight for your Country instead of trying to play grown up. God Bless the civilian contractor's wife and family and those who were injured. Finally, hooowaaa America for being able to defend the base so well.

Amen to A1C Montes. Steve Real needs to get real. I have friends and family serving in that area for the freedom of this nation. It's no small potatos when there is blood being spilled. I guess Steve has seen too many movies where the body count is part of the plot. Montes we will be praying for you and all the other service men and women.

My good friend is a contractor in Afghanistan honey. So when you want to talk hard times, we can't ignore the Sinola gang who put over a 1000 people into their graves in under 6 months and not over a 10 year period. That's war babe, this thing over here in Afghanistan is small time compared to what's going on Sinaloa. I did my thing for this country in 04 so I ain't just trash talking, I walked the walked.

    Steve Real,
WOW!!! American's are out there in the suck so that you can sit on your computer and make stupid comments like that. I can only imagine what the spouse of the civilian contractor is going to go through when she see's a blue car with a white top come to her house and 3 people wearing full service blues get out. My people (mexicans) are going through a really rough time and they have before but we are all strong and we'll get through it so dont worry about the mafia, instead, pray for my wife and hope that she doesnt get the same visit as this spouse when i deploy and end up serving my country with pride and honor.

    Small Potatos

Thank God this wasn't the Mexican mafia,
these guys (the taliban) come across as amateurs or more like hillbillies with guns.
    This was an attack?
    20 teenagers getting themselves killed?

They didn't even make it pass the perimeter of the base.
CNN is looking to me like a bunch of Taliban sympathizers.

Now, if this was a Mexican mafia attack?
Well then brother you'd be looking at one serious battle,
these guys (the Taliban) are small potatos compared
to what's going on in Sinaloa.
