Gulf oil spill victims waiting for BP's checks

(CNN) – Bad information may be the only thing you can rely on from BP these days. Right now, thousands of people who make a living off the Gulf have suffered devastating losses. They've filed claims with BP, but they're still waiting for checks.

The oil giant says it's paid out $49 million so far, with another round of checks on the way, upping the total to $84 million. But as our Ed Lavandera found out, BP's promises don't pay the bills.

BP should pay all the costs involved to retrain oil workers and fishermen who lose their livelihood. Renewable energy would be a perfect field for many of them. Stop pumping oil and start building solar panels, etc.

These people needs to use these checks wisely for the purpose of relocating because reinvestment is not a good idea.

Yesterday I sent some comments on how disappointing it is to keep hearing the attack, attack, attack on BP and the President to the point I switch channels to try and find a better more real picture of the oil event. I really like CNN for my news but not the attack mode of some of the newscasters. WE NEED more of the John Roberts and Kiran Chetry real news and less of the Anderson style please! I have heard many others in agreement and seen this morning on CNN that there is a feeling out there that is in agreement also. Turn the cameras off, stop attacking, and placing blame now. Only cover what is real for today, not some agenda for later. Newscasters should report the news NOT what they think is the news or should be and do it in the most positive manner as possible on really bad events. The general public needs leadership, positives, in times of crisis!! HELP from CNN!!
