Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) - A 52-year-old American citizen who said he was searching for Osama bin Laden was detained in Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan this week, Pakistani police said Tuesday.
The Californian named Gary Faulkner was carrying a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian religious books, said Mumtaz Ahmed, a police chief in the area.
Faulkner was detained as he was walking from Pakistan toward the border into Nuristan province in Afghanistan, Ahmed said. He told police that he had been looking for bin Laden since 9/11 and had traveled to the area several times before, Ahmed said.
U.S. Embassy spokesman Richard Snelsire did not confirm that Faulkner had been detained but said that the consulate in Peshawar did receive notification of the detention of an American citizen. Snelsire said they were trying to get more details.
"We're hoping to get consular access to the individual," Snelsire said.
Faulkner told police that he had no intention of killing bin Laden, Ahmed said. But police believed he was trying to kill bin Laden because of the weapons he was carrying, according to Ahmed.

Why is all the work on the well in the Gulf being done in series. All attempts have been tried knowing that drilling a second well is the solution – so why has that not been going on from time zero?

Why not construct a large 1 sq mile funnel of some flexible material that will trap the oil and let it rise to a given size opening where it can be harvested?
Please, Please get off his back – I'm so tired of listening to you give your take on what the President has said.
He's working hard with everything the former administration left. When President Obama came in, we all said it would take a generation to clean up the messes that have come about due to reduction of regulation s in may areas that impact the American public as a whole (CDC,EPA, FDA).. This latest one is in part due to lax monitoring of oil companies and a reticence of the Bush administration to take the oil companies on.
Please, please support our president as he works through these troubles.

I will support this president as much as you supported the last President Linda
Your efforts to catch me are futile, I am hidding under your nose in America, I like the Hilten accross from the White House, the food is very good and I get to eat for free because I am working as a waiter until my movie deal goes through.
We should be giving the guy all the information and aid he needs, maybe he can get bin laden. He could probably use the bounty!
I'm glad he had the passion and the *guts* to do what many of us Americans want to do to....but can't or won't. Obviously our hard working military can't do this for political reasons ! It's not that they aren't capable of doing it...it's our ties w/ Pakistan and the politcal red tape involved. People....! don't forget that Bin Laden killed thousands of Americans. It was smart for this guy to 'fly under the radar' b/c that's how he's gonna get caught or killed. ...I just wish he would've succeeded.
Does this guy really think he could do what are military is unable to do? His brother says he's not crazy, he's just passionate. Hey, I'm passionate about space travel, but if you ever see me on my roof with 500 bottlerockets strapped to my legs, my mental status might be a little in question.

he is my hero. i wanted to go after bin laden but with a family here it doesnt make much sense.
there is after all $50m on his head
I'm not surprised they arrested him. The Pakistanis don't want anyone to get near Bin Laden. An individual wouldn't have areas where he would not be allowed to search like the military have. That has always been the problem with politicians micro-managing a war.
Wouldn't surprise me if Bin Laden was not even in Afghanistan or even alive for that matter.
