(CNN) – Gen. Stanley McChrystal, America's top military commander in Afghanistan, has been recalled to Washington amid his controversial remarks about colleagues in a Rolling Stone article, officials said. McChrystal was summoned to attend a meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan in person rather than by video conference, a senior administration official said Tuesday. I gotta say, I liked McChrystal's ideas. Things being as bad as they are now, imagine how much worse it would be if we were killing loads of civilians with air support and indirect fire? However, even the best strategy is no strategy at all if can't even be given a try and that seems to be what's happening here. If I were a policy maker, I'd say try giving Taliban leaders more of what they want. For instance, instead of forcing them to let women go to school, how about just making men liable for honor killings? I don't know. It could be that the war in Afghanistan is simply unwinable in which case it may be better to try and get out while we can still do it on our own terms.
Gen. McChrystal should immediately be forced to resign in disgrace. Gen. McChrystal's shake and bake Afghanistan troops and regional governors in Marjah (the first test) was not a lasting success, it was a failure! The UK and NATO commanders from day one stated the McChrystal 'shake and bake' strategy would FAIL.
The troops under Gen. McChrystal are very unhappy with Gen. McChrystal's rules of engagement (ROE's) and want Gen. McChrystal to resign immediately.
The in-depth Rolling Stone article indicates Gen. McChrystal's own staff strongly dislikes the commander in chief (President Obama), and thinks very ill of Obama's staff, cabinet members and even the Afghanistan US Ambassador himself. The only person Gen. McChrystal liked in the current administration was Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Gen. McChrystal's staff are simply echoing how their boss is saying everyday among them and should be pushed to resign immediately and be pushed into retirement in disgrace thereafter.
Gen. McChrystal's remarks and those of his own staff could easily be seen as utterly treasonous. Such remarks encourage a military coup and President Obama should bear that in mind and fire Gen. McChrystal or accept his resignation immediately.
This sounds strange I know but it almost seems as though Gen.McChrystal ws trying to hve himsellf dismssed from the War .Maybe he didn't want to be viewed as a quitter.
Hey..Why does a 4 Star General do what he did ?
This doesn't add up at all.
Hope he is bringing his bags with him cause he is "history".
McChrystal is only a 4 star general and a life long professional military officer. What makes him think he knows more about military matters than his vastly experenced commander in chief. Since he disagrees with Obama I suspose that automatically classifys him as a racist as it has so many others that disagreed with the president.
Where is the focus? On the war or on the comments of the media or an interview. Help the man to do his job as the general in theater, since he is the one with his boots on the ground and knows what is going on over there. Service to country not service to self. This is only focusing on an ego, not a country.
Many Generals in the past have suffered for comments made but history judges them to be great leaders. (Patton, MacArthur and Grant) Lets listen to one that has the most years of service to his country as a military leader.
they need to fire this creep and then figure out how to get out of there.
