(CNN) – Gen. David Petraeus is on his way to Afghanistan today. It's been two days since he was confirmed for the job and now he's got to study the battle plan, get his staff in place and turn things around after the deadliest month of the nine year war.
Paying for progress isn't cheap. President Obama asked for billions more to win this war. And late last night, despite the growing discord between Democrats and the president's policy, the House approved $37 billion to fund the fight in Afghanistan.
And the war is raging on during the change in command. Overnight, the Taliban claimed responsibility for an attack on a U.S. aid agency in northern Afghanistan, which killed at least four people. Our Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr has the report. Watch ![]()

No ...ur wrong ronvan. 1 war that the US shouldnt have gotten in to...the Iraq war was a crime. The Afghanistan war is the good fight...against a real enemy...the Taliban. They attacked you. They throw acid on young girls. They kill women who walk around without their male family members. They bomb schools for children. They wont stop...because God wont let them. If the US pulls out they will get stronger and become a north american problem again. No one wants that. The best thing for a bad economy is a long war. Governments borrow billions and spend it. I dont like war...I wish it wasnt necessary but against the Taliban...I dont think we have a choice. Its them or us.
WE are just kidding ourselves! 2 wars that we should have never gotten involed in. Billions, maybe trillions, before we get out, that could have gone to OUR country. The loss & crippling of our magnificent military. Countries that do not want us there, except for those that are getting money put in their pockets from the U.S.
Handcuffing our military, due to politics, to an extent that they cannot do their mission. And of course, POLITICS, politics, politics! While Gen. McCrystal put his foot in his mouth and suffered the consequences, which was just, replacing him with Gen. Petraeus will not change anything! While in his heart he knows what should be done, he will take orders from our "elected children". Unless we change and give our military the "green light" to finish, and WIN this war I think that the withdrawal times are a joke. We will be there for many years, just like Russia, and wind up leaving without anything!
