Gulf well tests held over another day
(CNN) – Tests on the ruptured BP well in the Gulf of Mexico will go on for another 24 hours as federal and company officials try to explain "anomalous" pressure readings and possible leaks, the federal government's point man on the spill said Monday.
"There is no indication at this time this is any indication of a significant problem in the well bore, but we are running every one of these anomalies down," former Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen told reporters Monday afternoon.
The pressures recorded on the well in the four days since it was temporarily "shut in" are lower than expected, Allen said. Meanwhile, there are possible leaks of methane gas from around the well and from the inoperative blowout preventer, as well as a separate and possibly unrelated seep from the ocean floor about 3 kilometers (about 2 miles) away, he said.
Allen said scientists and engineers are still debating whether the low pressure is caused by either the well's depletion after three months of oil spewing into the Gulf or whether oil is leaking from the well into the surrounding sea floor.
"There are arguments to be made on both sides," he said. "But those discussions continue, and we're trying to develop information that will allow us to do that."
He said a joint in the capping stack placed over the damaged well appeared to be leaking a combination of oil and methane, but there appeared to be no sign that it was hindering the equipment now being used to contain the worst oil spill in U.S. history. Read more

This in no joke! I slept last night with CNN on and dreamed that I was a local reporter all night! I never sleep with the TV on and just happened to fall asleep in front of it last night. I guess it does have an effect.
Mike from Boston
Colleen,
With respect I have to say that our forefathers did believe in freedoms but would not accept a group that threatens everything our founders fought for. Islam is not just a religion. It's a culture and a way of thinking. I very much believe that EVERY person has the right to believe in whatever god they choose but not at the expense of others and the safety and stability of the American people. It's not fair that peaceful Muslims have to be roped in with extreme Islam but on that note it's not my fault that Islam is the religion of choice to terrorists.
I simply can"t beliece the people of New York could possibly allow a Mosque to be built within two blocks of The Workd Trade Center. It will simply give the radicle Muslims a monument to the most succesfull terrerest attack .n U S history. How can this be.There must be some other piece of proerty in the NerYork area tha would t be worthy of constructing this Mosqcue. We cannot let this happen.
Louramore.... Your spewing is pure Anti-American and nothing more.
If that's what you see... I would suggest going to the eye doctor and getting glasses.
I am disgusted by the smugness of Allan Chernoff during the interview and live discussion regarding the mosque at ground zero. He evidently doesn't think people are afraid of this – and deservedly so – not of the extremist muslims but of the creeping moderate muslims who expect us to bow to their every demand (even under veiled threats of violence or being called a 'racist' or 'politically incorrect') and are even preparing for the possibility of sharia law in the US (outside of the Constitution but yet protected by that same Constitution).
A reporter is supposed to be unbiased but it was obvious in his interview his level of derision for the interviewee.
Islam is the religion of the group of people that do not believe that we in the western hemisphere have the right to live our lives as we choose. If the developers of the religious center have some problem understanding why some of us feel so strongly about a Mosque/Islamic center being promoted two blocks from the site of an Islamic attack maybe I can shed some light on the situation from a non religious perspective. I see the world as a dangerous religious place, many many wars and battles of a smaller scale are fought over different religions. As an independent person with no real belief in faith I feel that we as a society are way to accepting of Islam and the effect it has had on America and allied countries. Instead of spending money on a Islamic center to teach tolerance of "moderate Islam" why not spend that effort and money actually moderating the people who share your religion?
I'll simplify. If I were part of a religious group who are without question the most active in committing crimes against humanity and acts of terror I would look for a better way not a way to teach others tolerance of my religion.
Someone correct me if I am wrong..... 95% of terror attacks are by Muslims ?????? Maybe it's time we put the politics aside and take a stand
America was founded on Christian faith all other religions were invited to join our faith not take it over .
Would it be acceptable to build a Christian Church near the Oklahoma City Federal Building?
@Colleen:
You are so right. Unfortunately, Americans only believe in the US Constitution's freedoms when it affects theirs'. They fail to understand that the US Constitution applies to ALL Americans! No individual or group can claim it's guarantees & then deny the same to others. If this was allowed, the US Constitution wouldn't be worth the paper it was written on!!!!
This is obviously a bigger problem than any American civilian could have imagined but like all conflicts either put forth by mother nature or human advisaries We will prosper, clean up the mess and move on. The Rainbow Dude is deffidently under the influence of some sort of highly powerful and probably dangerous mind altering substance, believe me you would not have to travel back in time to find such drugs either, chemists in all high ranking Universities are working hard day and night to help people open there minds and maybe live in there dreams with peace, love and equality.
The endless train of ideas and new jargon (junk kill, top kill, bottom kill, static kill) indicates how screwed up BP's priorities were / are. To have a fully operational, manned rig hooked up to this volcanic oil formation before they had a fundamental grasp on the geophysics and resultant engineering implications was inherently dangerous and risky.
If the polls show 52% against the Mosque then the majority should rule has our country lost the power of democracy .
What percentage of New Yorkers are Jewish?
Has not Scott Wheeler ever heard the term "Onward CHRISTIAN soldiers"?
Scott Wheeler is a nutcase and a wannabe domestic terrorist.
Simple as.
A blip on the ticker says a purported tape from Al Qaeda's #2 says victory is coming. Maybe the govt should hire another 50,000 "experts." Since President Obama took office, the GOP has been criticizing big govt. They didn't have any concerns when new intelligence agencies were created, new intelligence directors hired or new contractors were given govt contracts during the last administration.
Any mention of cutting the defense budget was always followed w/ fearmongering. It should concern every American that now not only do we have to worry about big brother watching us but also many hired by big brother. When you say you're concerned about your freedom, you should remember the warning by Ben Franklin, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty or safety..."
Why don't we all"get along" to quote the great American philosopher, Rodney King? Jeez, LET IT GO, New York....9-11-01. Nearly NINE years ago? We've been booting the "radical" Muslims around for 9 years, in Iraq, and now Afghanistan. We've made our point, by now....The Muslims I know, and I know many, are nice, kind, and good Americans. I do business with them daily...I count some as friends. Fact is it's the "lunatic fringe" of the Muslim community that we should fear. Not the everyday, go to work Muslim...I've been priveleged to know many Muslims....They're great people, who REJECT the violence shown by their "radical" brothers....It's like every other minority. Illegal Mexicans are in the main hard-working people...Blacks are in the main hard-working good Americans. I am acquainted with both.....I'm bi-racial, my Mom was a Mexican, an ILLEGAL Mexican, when I was born in 1946. I find the outrage of New York to border on hysteria....give the average New Yorker a chance and they'll react hysterically, historically. We ALL know that.....Come on people, DROP THE ROCK! My wife has encountered many Muslims as well. They all speak English fluently, are congenial, and pleasant. We've NEVER had a bad experience with our Muslim neighbors. They raise their children well, MUCH better then the "rednecks" that populate this little town we live in, believe me....Racism, and xenophobia is alive and well, in the USA. That is to our detriment, and is a public shame, in my opinion....Mike and Val Posey Lakeside California
Bob M.... exactly.
For some unknown reasons – Americans can't grasp the concept that ALL life is precious and equally valued.
Doesn't it bother anyone that the intelligent agencies have grown a 1000%? We were clearly capable of doing good intelligence analysis before Sep. 11. The agencies didn't want to share their information with each, that is what caused our problems. Pumping millions of tax dollars into clandestine programs is not the answer. It is just more shadow work cloaked in secrecy and away from the eyes and laws of our great country.
I am still dumbfounded when I hear how hurt and outraged people are over both the release of the Lockerbie guy and the building of a mosque in New York. I feel both the Lockerbie deaths and 911 were horrific events but I never hear any compassion for the 110,000 thousand plus innocent civilians needlessly murdered in our misguided invasion of Iraq. Not military foes – innocent civilians.
Am I to believe only American lives having value? Am I to believe that only U.S. citizens can feel outrage at a despicable and needless slaughter? This all reminds me of the fact that when one points at another, three fingers are pointed back at the pointer. Do we as a culture have the ability to be accountable for our own life ending follies?
The US is NOT a "Christian" Nation. We are a Nation of all religions. All Americans have the right to Religious freedom which was of utmost importance to our Forefathers.
As long as the media stay's within its bound's on top secret information our country will stay secure but all it takes is one misstep .

The CNN reporter that asked the question... "why not teach Christianity ...." only showed her bias by asking that. Does she ask the same question to Churches and Synagogues? Is that reporter of the Jewish faith?
Do not allow New York City to set "religious policy" for all America. They do not represent the majority of Americans. New York City is the largest Jewish city in the world so their opinions needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
to Dan; Oklahoma City was not muslim, school shootings were not all muslim, and those are just terrorist acts off the top of my head.
The fact that there are Americans arguing this is embarrassing! IT ISN'T A TERRORIST CAMP, its just a community building for a religion! The reporter on this story was just as dumb with her questions! WHY NOT HAVE A PRAYER CENTER FOR OTHER RELIGIONS??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? You get paid for this?? THERE ARE Christian community centers, Jewish community centers, etc etc! The Muslim religion did not destroy the towers! A terrorist group that was Muslim did! TERRORIST GROUP! Stop being so ignorant.
All news outlets are covering the upcoming unemployment vote in congress today, doing pieces on the unemployment problem in this country.
You run an old piece on Food Stamp fraud.
Oil in the Gulf ad nauseam
Oh hows Lindsey this morning?
Buying condoms with food stamps would be Ok. if you were a Cone Head from outer space but is it really a bad thing to control the birth rate that would result in the lower cost of food stamps .
Ms. Sherrod's situation is unfortunate. Most folks aren't as candid about the transgressions of their past, and for that, I admire her. She basically led herself to slaughter, and NAACP politics finished the job. I feel for her as a person, as her intention was to inspire social growth. Unfortunately, the NAACP capitalized on her candor and vulnarability to further their image. They selectively cast dispersion on racism, never shining the light on themselves – Best of luck Ms. Sherrod.
Regarding my previous comment and the now existing relief well now 4 feet from the blown out well. There is an opportunity to learn something here about the rock strata characteristic and be extra carefull at the same time. I suggest that 'heavy' mud be injected into the relief well as well. Ascertain that the relief well is sealed and pressure remains constant during the primary 'heavy' mud process. If the relief well pressure rises as heavy mud is injected into the primary well, then we will know that the rock strata is compromised due to oil/gas depletion. This is intended to be a cautious approach to solve the problem. We can all mutually agree that a blow out occurance would be an embarrassing and troublesome problem to cope with. Good luck and be carefull!
Sherrod is suffering from the double edge sword from the NAACP. When jealous said that all organizations have to get rid of all racists or accept full responsibility for them this is the other end of it. She is a person of color and she made racist comments, so therefore they had no choice to get rid of her. I think they made the right call in doing this. If the NAACP makes an issue of this and tries to help her get her job back it will only prove how irrelavant they are now. Another thing about this that annoyed me is that towards the end she plays the race card as well as the female card with the comment of, " It was all happening to fast." Here is what I have to say to that," Cry me a river."
Static kill, top kill. THEY ARE THE SAME THING. of course minus a few differences. Also, when this well reptures from the strain, can we own bp and then disolve them to pay for the costs that are sure to arise that BP wil not pay for. The government isnt in control. If they so in control as they say then there would be measuring instruments down there among other things.
The thought of a Mosque being built near Ground Zero is disturbing to myself. That is not the place for such a thing nor should New York allow it to be built there, that is like a slap in America's face.
Ssherrod is a lying sack of dung, she is trying to cover her rear on your show, her comments on that video is disgusting, she stated plainly what she thought of this farmer being white and he needed a lawyer of his own "kind". She doesn't deserve the job she had, period.
After observing the first cut to the B.O.P. and the damage it caused the static kill method seems inviting .
Good Morning CNN!
Let's hope for success in the oil leak in the Gulf.
The black racist that made the speech before the NAACP was in MARCH and the NAACP did nothing about it until the video hit YouTube proves the NAACP tolerates racism – as long as it is a black racist against a white person. Hypocrite much NAACP? Did not the crowd cheer and applaud when she was making those comments? Sherrod beyond any doubt is a racist. More double standards in America.
The Mosque should be built wherever the owners/builders want to build it. The attempt to restrict the religious freedom of any group of Americans by another group is UnAmerican and is a very slippery slope to start going down. America is not a Christian Nation – it is a nation of many religions and the home of religious freedom. Christians have killed and tortured more people than any other religion in history.
Boo Hoo for the 18 million British BP pension fund holders. You don't have a "RIGHT" to amass dividends to retire through a corporation which is exploiting resources and people. In fact, if you really wished to amass enough wealth to retire, and actually enjoy it, you would be on the front lines in this fight so you actually CAN retire. Make a few conscious choices with regard to what is dignified and acceptable, for a change, in relation to your retirement investing. It's time for the "pigs at the trough" method of investing to go away.
This so called static kill makes a lot of sense. Since the well is no longer flowing, the motion of the fluid within the well can be said to be 'static'. The 'heavy' mud, when injected into the top of the well will 'fall' to the bottom of the well. The key here is, is to somehow get 'plugging/sealing' materials at the absolute bottom of the well. The pressure of the 'heavy' mud hopefully work itself into the pores of the oil/gas bearing strata. As the mud is being injected, the well pressure will at some point begin to rapidly rise. This indicates that the mud is penetrating into the left behind voids in the once saturated oil/gas voids in the strata. Care must be taken so as to NOT rupture the well casing and the BOPs now in place. Thus, the risers to the ships above MUST be installed and functioning to relieve pressure as required without expelling oil/gas into the Gulf. Once the well is filled to the top, the BOPs can be removed, and concrete then can be injected into the existing drill pipe to the bottom of the well forcing the 'heavy' mud out of the well. This method seems to be a lot more safe than intersecting the well miles below.
What color or colors do the N.A.A.C.P. stand for and is it not raciest to denounce any race or color or religion .
The N.A.A,C.P jumped right in on the immigration issue with Arizona but has left no foot print with the Mosque in New York is the N.A.A.C.P. raciest against Muslims .

DO NOT build a Mosque near ground zero. I understand this may upset many.
Let's not forget. Not all Muslims are terrorists; however, all terrorists are Muslim (maybe with the exception of Timothy Mcveigh).
Each and every terrorist attack the last 50 years has been conducted by a Muslim.
The Muslims won't tell you this, but the Quran talks about Christians as Infidels, and want to annialate us.
The United States is a CHRISTIAN nation, NOT MUSLIM. Don't forget it.
