Tropical Storm Bonnie could hit oil spill site over weekend
(CNN) – The National Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm watch for the northern Gulf of Mexico early Friday as Tropical Storm Bonnie began clearing the Bahamas and headed for South Florida.
The watch is in place from Destin, Florida, westward to Morgan City, Louisiana.
The storm is expected to pass the southern tip of Florida on Friday afternoon before making landfall Sunday morning near New Orleans.
At 5 a.m. ET Friday, Bonnie was packing winds of 40 mph and moving west-northwest at 18 miles an hour as it slipped past the northwestern Bahamas. It was about 200 miles east-southeast of Key West, Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center.
It could pick up some strength as it moves over the long stretch of open water in the Gulf of Mexico, but the latest computer models do not show it becoming a hurricane, according to CNN meteorologist Chad Myers.
If the storm continues on its path, it could slam into the area of the BP oil spill and possibly put more oil to shore. Read more

@Wendy, what you say is true, however, it had a negative effect all the way to the White House. It detracted from truely important news that happenned this week. My personal opinion is this was intentional. This is how small benign groups can take over governments.

If the GOP was really interested in cutting the deficit, or at least not adding to it, they would quit trying to protect the wealthy & corporate America. You want to cut the deficit? Cut ourt corporate welfare!!! Why do oil co's that make 10's of biliions of dollars in profit every quarter need tax breaks, incentives & subsidies? Why did the GOP block repealing the $35 billion to the oil co's? How are these being paid for? That money could have paid for the unemployment benefits extension!!!!
Think about that for a minute. Oil co's are being rewarded for taking America's resources & then selling them to Americans & others at large profits! We are getting gouged by big oil at both ends!!! And they aren't the only industry getting welfare from the same taxpayers who they are gouging!!!

Wendy... what you posted is the truth. CNN is a left wing "news" organization and their solely purpose is to promote and protect Obama – not just report the news.
If there was ever a law suit that would NOT be frivioulus, is if Andrew Breitbart was sued by Mz. Sherrod for everything he is worth.
This may persuade Mr Breitbart to improve his editing skills for his future projects.

American's money should be spent on Americans and not spent on needless "causes" overseas.
The Internet is not destroying America, however it DOES require that mainstream media act as a Watch Dog and investigative arm of the broader media to examine information put forth by people (such as the blogger that put forth this edited video) and to 1) hold these bloggers to a high standard 2) hold bloggers and politicians to a higher standard of telling the truth and calling them out when they promote lies and half truths.
CNN can be part of the problem or part of the solution, but the decision as to which is up to CNN (and depends upon if they want to do fluff reporting or actuall reporting and follow up).
Pretty obvious..CNN..which promotes Obama all the time..has decided that using the word "twisted" gets the story where THEY want it to be. In fact, Sherrods words weren't twisted..taken out of context, yes,..she clearly admitted that in 1986 she committed racist acts.
Brietbart didn't fire her, The WH did.Brietbart's focus was the NAACP..yet neither the NAACP nor the WH or the media bothered to look at the whole tape before they acted...that was NOT Brietbarts fault.
CNN has on numerous occasions implied that the Tea Party was racist..based on what? They have yet to prove anything either on tape or audio, nor do they report the physical attacks on Tea PArty members..but obviously it is their agenda..to protect and promote Obama and the Democratic Party...sad..objective journalism is dead..

Could this be the real reason the Media is inundated to the point of saturation with the 'racism issue'? Again, where did this start? Who stands to gain or lose in terms of finacial gain with the legislation that has passed? Understanding that news organizations get paid by their apparrent viewership (ei ratings) and advertising revenues. How is that money divied up? Once this is understood, suddenly it all becomes all clear as to why things are the way they are.

Karen, you think the reason the White House didn't inform you of their pending call to Ms Sherrod could be because they, like many Americans, don't trust the media? The Sherrod story is about the media not doing it's job. When you have networks like Fox fabricating stories and other news sources not calling them on it, means you are just as guilty as they are. This is not a story about the White House – it's about YOU.
CNN has CHOSEN to cover and obsess the Sharrod case from morning until night rather than cover what has been passed through Congress and signed by the President.
Two weeks from now you will be criticizing him for not "selling his accomplishments" instead of doing your job in a democracy which is to inform the voters.
Art... No problem in America can be solved instantly in one day but it must start somewhere.
All Government is corrupt. Politicians are only out to line their own pockets – from the President on down – whether it is a Democrat or Republican. If it was up to me – I'd give the whole Government a total system overall. Get rid of "professional" politicians. Set term limits. Maybe go back to the form of Government this country had before "professional" politicians took over.
Would you conduct your personal finances in the same manner as America conducts the country's business? If you had debts that you couldn't afford to pay would you continue to increase the money you spent or would you control what you spent and cut out the needless, wasteful spending? Would you increase the amount of money that your kids and grandkids be committed to pay because of your decisions? Why do you believe one can spend their way out of debt?
With the loss of jobs in America would you continue to have an open border and not attempt to stop the flood of illegal aliens into the country or allow jobs to flee the US thru NAFTA?
What corporations do with their money is irrelevant – as long as the money they earned was done by legal means and not by scamming people. Would what you do to stop the billions of dollars leaving the Country thru remittances by illegal aliens? Would you force people to buy health care insurance but neglect the cost of health care it's self? Would you increase business and profits for the insurance companies and still allow insurance rates to skyrocket?
I am hardly an "expert" but one doesn't have to be an "expert" to see that something is broken. No.. I don't have all the answers but I know the answer isn't just going along to get along.

Since the onset of this ongoing disaster BP has avoided the ovious fix of the spill.
Remove flange and old pipe stub and install new riser to surface...
Flange and broken riser pipe should/could have been replaced on day 2 and this disaster avoided completely!
That would have given the accurate rate of oil leaking and this was not done avoiding fine for correct estimate of total leakage.

How can the low March numbers for popularity be related to Obama's successes in Wall St., unemployment benefits, etc. Shouldn't you use more current polling numbers?
For days now, CNN has raked the White House/President Obama over the coals for the edited tape. I want to know why you are NOT treating the person who perpetuated this edited, thus fraudulent, tape the same way. This person stated that he was not after the eventual victim. What on earth did he think would happen? He had absolutely no regard for the effect it would have on her and quite frankly, he has shown that he did not care. All he was interested in doing was trying to show the NAACP was a racist as the Tea Party. All he has done is perpetuate the notion that the Tea Party is becoming more and more racist. So again, I ask – why is CNN not exposing this man for what he really is? Why is CNN now ignoring him? All you seem to be interested in doing is making President Obama look bad.
Those who have benefited the most from the Bush tax cuts have proven they did not deserve the Bush tax cuts. 8 million jobs are gone, and the disparity of wealth between the rich and poor has increased.
Now they are saying they will not invest in the recovery by hiring people until they know their precious tax cuts will still be there for them. They claim to be "afraid" of Washington.
TAX THEM! And go after their offshore accounts, too.

I get most of my news from CNN; however, CNN can "worry" a story to death or really push an angle of it to the point where I have to tune you out.
Why is CNN running around trying to find out who requested her firing? Is that the real story? CNN has focused on the White House and its reaction and has done little, as far as I know, about taking a serious look at the sob ( and others of his ilk ) who just expediently distort things and exploit situations. In the process they do unnecessary harm to individuals and to the country as a whole.
I am more interested in finding out what Ms. Sherrod can legally do to get her to punish this guy who should be punished. I am more interested in knowing whether this guy has "spliced and diced " before and why isn't he being taken to task for such outrageous,slanderous conduct for which he has still to apologize.

Yesterday the Senate passed a $60 billion bill to further fund the Afghan war. They trimmed $20 billion from the House bill that was for domestic programs. I didn't hear the usual argument that we need to pay for this bill first. However, when it comes to unemployment benefits for Americans, it needs to be paid for!
Some have said we should renew Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy w/o concern how to pay for them. Somehow they won't add to the deficit. They have & will if they are renewed. Reagan's tax cuts for the wealthy led to a major recession. Bush's tax cuts led to even a bigger recession. We can't afford to renew these tax cuts!!!

Do you really feel that this problem can be resolved TODAY? Does capitalism have the tendency to trigger the dark side of human nature, and if so, what alternatives can we select to resolve it TODAY? How would you resolve the loss of American jobs to countries with less expensive labor TODAY?
I've noticed you have a problem with the President spending money to break the back of this recession/depression. Most of the people I know who have started businesses have gone to the bank with a business plan to secure the start up cash they needed to start their businesses. The loan is money they don't have. How is this any different from what the Obama administration is doing TODAY?
How would you make the corporations who are siphoning off, then hoarding the money in this country accountable TODAY?

Yesterday the 4 major oil co's announced they were starting a $1 billion rapid response team for oil leaks. That's great but what happens if a leak occurs before it's operational? And even when it is operational, there is no technology available at this time to end such a leak immediately.
Some of the tar balls that have washed up on the TX & FL coasts have been determined to not have come from the Deepwater Horizon leak. Where have they come from? Is another well leaking or is a capped well leaking?
If I was a ceo of an oil co, I wouldn't want a moratorium either. If for no other reason than I would want to start drilling before the liability cap is raised. At the present time, it's still at $75 million. Maybe BP gave in because they are a foreign co. I wonder how an American co would react when the law states they only have to pay a certain amount of liability claims?

OIL COMPANY EXECS ARE LYING TO YOU
You can't order someone to quit! You can request them to resign or fire them. If Mrs Sherrod refused to resign & she was fired, being a federal employee, she would have been entitled to an arbitration hearing. If she failed there, which is unlikely based on what we now know, she could have taken her case to a federal court. She has successfully sued the govt before.
She has said many times that no one was interested in her side of the story. So why did she resign? She has fought for others so why was she so quick to abandon an injustice against her? She has been all over the media doing so but why didn't she force the issue into the proper venue? If she refused to resign & was fired, she would have been placed on aministrative leave, w/ pay, until the hearing which wouldn't have been necessary.
Why is CNN not focusing on Andrew Breitbart, Fox News and all the other networks who published the Sherrod story without checking facts. I think you are giving a pass to those who tried to detroy this woman. Why?
Has CNN become an apologist for the oil companies? How can you talk to the Shell CEO and not bring up the incredible destruction being caused by the oil companies along the coast of Africa? What we have seen in the Gulf is nothing compared to what they experience in Nigeria every year. It is immoral for us, the U.S. consumer, to demand safeguards along the U.S. coast but have no concern about what our demand for oil is doing to the environment in poorer countries. We should push Big Oil to put in safeguards for not only in the U.S. but everywhere that they drill. It may cost more but it is the moral thing to do. Ultimately, we have to change our oil consuming ways and move to more environmental friendly forms of energy.

What happened to the "balanced reporting" that CNN says they have? Everything on CNN for the past few days has been negative about the President from the Sherrod case, the poll numbers and complaints from the left and right. Now John Roberts is pushing the CNN talking points that the Obama Administration mishandled two race releated issues.
I for one think it was the press who mishandled the Gates affair and believe the president was right in the treatment Prof. Gates received. If was the media who made the big deal about the beer summit and overlook that it was a success for the two men involved.
What about a segment on what the President did achieve this week by signing into law the following:
1. The most sweeping financial regulation bill since the Great Depression including consumer protections that will positively affect most Americans.
2. The bill directing all gov't agencies to cut down on waste and fraud which voters and the media have been complaining about for decades.
3. Signing extending unemployment benefits that will help over 2.5 million people.
