BP says no decisions have been made on changing management

(CNN) – No final decision had been made regarding whether embattled CEO Tony Haward will leave BP, the company said in a statement Monday morning.

"BP notes the press speculation over the weekend regarding potential changes to management and the charge for the costs of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. BP confirms that no final decision has been made on these matters," the statement said.

The statement, which did not mention Hayward by name, said "any decisions will be announced as appropriate," noting that BP's board would meet Monday night ahead of the announcement of its second quarter earnings.

Despite widespread media reports that Hayward was on the verge of leaving, BP said Sunday that he still had the company's support.

"Tony Hayward remains our chief executive and has the full support of the board and senior management," company spokesman Mark Salt told CNN.

Hayward has been in the crosshairs of criticism over his handling of the underwater oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico ever since the BP-contracted Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded in April, killing 11 people and creating the worst oil spill in U.S. history. Read more

Long time viewer of CNN so much so that I have burnt your logo into my old TV.
I am commenting today because something has been happening at your station. You have become a celebrity magazine show and the little news you cover is regurgitated over and over.
I cannot abide it anymore and this viewer is looking for another daily news source.

@ Sara Martinez, way to go! I am not a racist, but i do believe when you break the law the punishment should be carried out and for illegal immigrants there should be no trial, just deport them, we know that they have broken the law!

Irony, Mornan Missionaries from Utah travel to other lands and cultures and preach the wonders of the religion and the glory of living in Utah are they really so dense that they did not expect others to flood in seeking the advantages they preach about. I wonder how many other ethnic groups reside enmass in Utah the Hispanics can't be the only group

All illegal aliens should be on a list for deportation. No if ands or buts.

If a person that was hungry and homeless broke into YOUR house – would YOU allow that person to live in YOUR house? Why is it any difference with YOUR country?

Of course the person that broke into YOUR home wants to stay in YOUR house.

On the tax cuts for the wealthy do we really know about paying taxes for exsample do the young people realize that back in the days of our great world wars what the rich and business paid in taxes Tax rates were in the high 70% and the only way they didnt have to pay these taxes was to hire or reinvest in the business and we built our industries I am sorry but look back i did and i was shocked at what i saw If you make lots of money you paid taxes and not just 33% or 36% it was 69%or 76% and we built on that so I think we need to stop wining and do what has to be done look if these people in charge of business and making over 200.000 dont like it let them look at the tax rates of our greatgrand father had to pay or use that money to exspand the business, lets get real raise taxes let the tax breaks run out and lets pay our debt. And just move on without all this wining

Jane: The first thing that has to be done is to verify that what is floating around about American involvement in the release of the L. bomber is to validate its authenticity. It looks like it is the same type of thing as the doctored Sherrod video.

Why is it that you overlook the fact that the President is making small steps, which is all one can do in a fragile ecinomy, first by having a bipartisan commission on ways to deal with reducing the debt as well as signing into law a bill to force gov't agencies to take a harder line on investigating and reducing fraud to save billions over the next few years?

Those tax cuts were put into place at a time when America was fighting two wars and when the huge prescription plan was put into place. Perhaps you could have someone on to explain what those cuts did to the ever increasing deficit.

Another thing you could do is explain how Congress says they want to reduce spending...as long as it isn't in their backyard. T

The other item you over look is the present jobs bill that yet agian the republicans are stalling includes several initatives for small business.

You are hypocrites; you spend time explaining how voters are tired of the partisan politics and reporting and then you did the very same thing immediaitely after!!

Any American politician that approved/ok'ed/went along with/ knew ahead of time the release of the Lockerbie bomber should be prosecuted for aiding and abetting a terrorist or treason and executed if convicted.

Will there be any discussion today of the information that the US government may have approved of the release of the Lockerbie bomber? They wanted him to stay in Scotland, but were OK with the release at the time? We've heard a lot about BP and it's supposed lobbying for the release, but so far not much mention of the US memo.

I really dont think tony hayward really did any thing wrong and this is just a push to get people to buy stock in their company and that is sameful and goes right to the point that this country will settle for a fix that really has no good to it . this man got in front of the spill and was taken apart for some small statements taken out of contexts and taking his young son on a boat race why was that so wrong People dont make any smart or make there own opinions they follow like sheep

Make BP and the other big oil companies have at least two ways each to stop similar leaks before oil drilling
off shore is resumed. President Obama kicked BP'S ass and made them put 20 billion dollars in a fund over republican
objections We need to put BP'S balls in a vice until everyone gets paid!

You changed something, today! I have watched CNN for many years and all of a sudden you have started with the infantile attempt to lure buyers to commercials by increasing the volume by about 20% for commercials. Please tell me that some newbie there has come up with a bad idea or we will have to consider looking for a more mature station's news to watch.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Why is so much attention being paid to Chelsea Clinton's wedding by the media, yet there was not so much coverage or curiosity by that same media when a sitting President's daughter got married (one of the Bush twins)? We didn't hear the breathless reporting about who is on the guest list, how much it cost, that it was like a "royal" wedding, etc.).

Where the fascination with Chelsea Clinton and her wedding? Jenna Bush was able to pull of a pretty private event, why can't the Clintons?

Another stupid idea. Raising taxes on 2 or 3 percent of the population will have no affect on paying off the national debt. Raising taxes without controlling spending is pointless. More evidence that the system if flawed beyond repair. Scrap the current system.

A totally new and fair tax system is needed. Implement a flat tax system. All citizens should be taxed at the same percent. No tax rebates, no refunds, no tax credits or tax returns.

Just curious why extending the tax cuts for the so called "rich" has to be paid for via spending cuts somewhere else, but the rest of the tax cuts (for the remaining 97% of the country) don't have to be?

In the workplace bullying interview there was some inaccurate informtion. Generally the discussion was a good one but the attorney stated that HR is not on the side of the employee but rather on the side of the boss. As a strategic business partner, HR's responsiblity is to look out for the best interest of the organization. If the boss IS bullying then HR should take steps to correct the situation and change the behavior of the boss – even if this means the boss must separate from the organization. The comment was a complete generality and implied that HR is biased toward the boss. This has not been my experience and I have worked in and taught HR for over 25 years. HR, like other business partners such as accounting, finance, and marketing must operate strategically and make decisions that help their organization survive and thrive.

If I was Hayward, I would have resigned a long time ago. Along w/ a change, comes a nice severance package that most can only dream of. He surely didn't handle the onslaught of criticism & media attention well. However, he did accept responsibility & was remorseful about the damage done.

On the other hand, Mr Blankenship of Massey Mines doesn't feel either. He's busy blaming the govt & mine workers themselves for the explosion that caused so many to lose their lives. Like the oil industry, coal mines have been cutting corners that have placed workers health & lives in danger & caused much destruction to the environment.

There is no reason Tony Hayward should loose his position with British Petroleum. He only wants his life back. He wish to go back to when the gulf area was not endangered. He prefer the eleven lives not be lost. He prefers not to have to watch the lose of billions of dollars. He killed nothing, damaged nothing; nor did plotted the distress of America. The pressure and headaches of this experience is what he wishes to escape.
And as a result of wanting his life back, these loving and kind hearted Americans want his blood. They don't care that his getting his life back means they have gotten their lives back.

I am a hispanic legal citizen and I completely support what Arizona is doing! Maria is hiding because she is illegal! I think the whole United States should follow in Arizona's footsteps! Maria wants to whine and cry about how hard it is to be an illegal immigrant???? How about try being a citizen who gets put off by our government to aid illegal immigrants!!! Immigration has been an issue and the recession just finally showed everyone just how big the issue really is! Schools in Ohio have had budget cuts and closings, due to not enough funding. But yet illegal immigrants children, who do not speak English gets classes during the summer?? These classes are funded by the school years budget...thus taking away from American children! It is not just schools illegals are taking from. They also rob Americans of jobs, government assistance programs, and pay thousands less in taxes, if they are one of the ones that do pay! Get them out! ALL of them! Illegal anybody!!!!! Not just hispanics! Drop the race card and show the green card or get out!

    Hooray for Prince William County!

The illegal alien that was interviewed on tv should be afraid – SHE IS IN THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY.

Americans that commit crimes go to jail why shouldn't there be a punishment for being in the country illegally?

The main problem is balancing the economy and health issues. I get this. Tourism is huge down in the Gulf.

You can't keep telling people there is no oil danger or corexit danger. You can't keep ignoring the reports of acid and corexit/oil rain.

Im glad Hayward is leaving B.P. He did not handle this oil spill as it should have been handled. I was very amused to see him turn red and sweat under pressure during his testimony. I am a proud American and was very proud of those states represenatives, that ripped Hayward a new one. He and B.P. completely deserved it!!!! I still say we take them to the parts of the gulf that is still heavily covered and let them swim, while we take pictures from shore of the oil covered Hayward and associates!

    Good Morning CNN!

Hayward is the atypical Brit – American hating, snobbish, rude and ill-mannered. He doesn't care what damage has been to America. Replacing haywayd with an American Lackey (Dudley) doesn't cure anything.
