Portions of Arizona's controversial immigration law go into effect

(CNN) – Parts of an Arizona immigration law go into effect Thursday as it was passed - after a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction that blocked the most controversial aspects of it.

The injunction, issued Wednesday, means that, at least for now, police are prevented from questioning people's immigration status if there is reason to believe they are in the country illegally.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton also blocked provisions of the law making it a crime to fail to apply for or carry alien registration papers or "for an unauthorized alien to solicit, apply for, or perform work," and a provision "authorizing the warrantless arrest of a person" if there is reason to believe that person might be subject to deportation.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said the state would file an expedited appeal to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, signaling a legal escalation that some expect will end up before the U.S. Supreme Court.

The parts of the law that go into effect include a ban on so-called sanctuary cities, and the criminalization of hiring day laborers who are in the country illegally. The parts of the law dealing with sanctions for employers who hire illegal immigrants also withstood the first legal test. Read more

Turley – I have similar heritage, mostly European and a fraction of Native American. I would think that the European invasion and conquering of America would be a warning. We need to enact laws or we will lose the country we stole centuries ago. If you feel guilty, the Native American people are still here (barely) and will accept any assistance you wish to offer.

Yesterday many sheriffs who support the SB 1070 said we have many laws in the book that we can crackdown illegal immigrants so then do it

Today news papers some state legislators here (TN) still plan to write law like Arizona’s

Now we know They can’t but still they are saying they will

Its all about politics SB1070 became a election year slogan for local republicans SAD

They are going waste tax payer money

Pauly – It's not hatred, it's fear. Fear that we will be reduced to the same level of poverty as Mexico. Fear that the country will barely be able to speak English and other countries will crush us financially. We do need immigrant labor – but how much can we handle? My city had very few immigrants 10 years ago, and now jobs that were performed by working moms and students are being done by immigrants. Is this good? More importantly, the children of these immigrants will not want to pick crops, either. They will grow up in America with all the rights of Americans, benefit from a free American education and will want the same higher-paying, less strenuous jobs my children will want. Then what do we do? Will the economy be strong enough to support all of our children? Or will poverty and divisions breed crime & violence, like it always does? If you have enough money to pay us all a living wage, please post your own web site so they can apply. Oh, wait – CNN specifically asked for no links.

I makes me sad to hear the view that illegal aliens are taking the jobs of Americans. Lets face it my friends. A reality check will show that this is not the case. Without these immigrants, the supermarkets/grrocery stores, restuarants etc will suffer. Who will we find to do these menial jobs. Is anyone in support of this law willing to take these jobs. Think my friend for a moment the benefits of having these folks here. Americans prefer to milk the goverment of free money, for example, medicare/medicaid fraud and food stamps rather than taking a job. Watch the documentary shown recently on CNN and see what they are doing with food stamp money. This is a sad day in America.

@purplepolitics, are you saying that the GOP-Tea Party aren't proposing a way of life and law? Are you proposing that certain 'kinds' don't deserve the right to Liberty, Freedom and the Pursuit of happiness? Comparing the two? Why not? I was thinking about LEGAL citizens. Also, might I add, my objective here is to try to make people think. There seems to be a lot of 'shallow' thinking around these days. (Or a lack there of). I'm thinking of the rights and infringements American Citizens. I don't believe anyone should be treated differently because of looks, language or polical/religious beliefs. And might I add, I do not want impositions upon me as well.

@ Tony- You've got an audience here for your stories. Write 'em. I'll read them.

The law in Arizona was the wrong one to enforce for a simple reason. The tail (labor-legal or otherwise)does not wag the dog (business).

Follow the money trail if you want to resolve the immigration issue.

@ Tony this has nothing to do with profiling but instead maintaining our American laws that keep our country glued together we can not allow to let our laws be ignored and wind up like Mexico and other third world country's .

A report today suggested that th illegal immigrants being featured were not eligible for government help/health benefits, and their children (born in the U.S.) were not either. What the report neglected to report is that the children are eligible for a free education and possibly free breakfast/lunch (they would be in my state). A common practice by immigrants in my apartment complex: when they need medical attention, they go to the hospital, the hospital treats them & releases them, and if any bills come their way they either use a fake name or simply move to another apartment, leaving the hospitals to raise prices for those of us that follow the rules. You see, some had no problem sneaking into America, why bother paying for medical care? Why bother paying the last month of rent? These unfortunate, impoverished people have nothing, and are much better off coming here and playing the system. It will continue until our country is as poor as the one they left.

I would like to ask the people on this blog who are in support of this law. How many of you have served in the miliary or even gave service to your country? If you haven't contributed anything the benefit of society, then you have no credibality addressing the issues of the proposed law.

John, I have owned a crown vic (not the same one) now for over 25 years and I love the ride and comfort of the auto. I get over 26 miles per gallon with the powerful 45.6 liter V-8 engine. This is much higher MPG than the Toyota you mentioned. I am very sad that the Crown Vic is going away. I will, however, purchase the Mercury model when the time come to replace. I have over 112, 000 miles on the car and expect at least another 170,000 miles before requiring replacement. Try that with the Toyota SUV.
    Love the show.

    Profiling an issue to address

This is real my friend. I am a naturalized citizen who has served 24 years in the military and has been a high school teacher since retirement. The Arizona law if passed will only legalized profiling and strengthened prejudice in this beautiful counry. To deal with the frequent profiling stops, I have had to resort to changing my car license plates to an Armed Force issue tin order to display the fact that I am proud to have served this country in the above areas. It breaks my heart everytime I am stopped and these young white cops end up apologizing to me. I would love to share my stories of these frequent stops to the media and bring light to this matter.

Nothing in the proposed AZ law had anything to do w/ border security!!! The sheriff of Pima County, AZ stated that much. This administration has deported 10% more illegal last year than the previous administration did in '08 & 25% more than were deported in '07!!! Hey but don't let facts get in the way of your hatred!!!

If the 11-12 million illegals were rounded up & deported, the economy couldn't handle it!!! Americans aren't going to work long hours under extreme conditions for low wages & no benefits that many illegals do. If farmers weren't exempted from many labor laws, tomatoes would cost $10 each. That is if they could find people to work in the fields!!! Farmers in several states are exempted from minimum wage, overtime & even worker's comp laws!!! If any Americans want to pick crops in 100 degree heat, you can apply at takeourjobs dot org.

Bush couldn't get immigration reform, either. Why is this Obama's fault? Where's John McCain? I haven't heard a peep out of him regarding immigration, or anything else. Isn't he a U.S. Senator from Arizona?

Let's get the microscope out and take a good hard look at the business men and women in the Southwest who are creating the incentives to work here illegally. They are the reason the economy is tanking in these states, and it is having a tidal wave effect throughout the country.

If voters keep congress from acting on immigration reform by saying what they want instead of find a solution, we have no solution. Everybody has their views what is the common ground and congressmember will need to find that. Its time that the voting base say what they will take as common ground so congress know the path to take. I would rather be heard then forgotten. Those polls have voters for and against or two side to the arguement and I'm willing to say do a good job congress.

@Tom It is totally illegal to ask someone who is affiliated with a political party to show papers because of the political party they are affiliated with. It is our RIGHT as LEGAL citizens to choose whatever political affiliation we s o choose. You are comparing apples and oranges. A person can change political parties, but can illegals change their immigration status such as person changes political affiliation? No. You shouldn't even be comparing the two.

good morning, this immigration issue has grown into a real problem.it
seems as though the law makers in washington have no problems in approving trillions of dollars in taxpayer money for two wars and wall
street bailouts ,but when it comes to securing our borders its something that does not get done properly.this issue just did not happen overnight as we all know, its been going on for years and
washington was aware of the problem, but failed to take care of it then.
in the mean time our economy is in a shambles .our schools, hospital
systems, and social programs are overburdened.i dont feel that immigration reform or amnesty is the answer, and i dont agree with it,
and any legislation for reform or amnesty.so i say to our lawmakers in
    washington do your job.

@Tom We are not talking about socialism my friend and every country and its government is not a form of socialism because if it were Carl Marx would be rising from the dead. Some countries do have SOCIALISTIC POLICIES, but that doesn't mean they are a socialistic country. Just because we have racism within our country it doesn't mean everybody is racist does it? No, just as having socialistic laws doesn't mean were socialist. Within a socialist country everything is ran by the government including the economy. Are all private businesses ran by our government. Again NO.

Oh and another thing why do we even have a border then?? If they are allowed to be here?? If that is the case then why do we have US Customs checkpointsfor people to fly into the US. You cannot get in without passing thru with papers..... right. or a Visa... We have US Port Authority for those who came in via Boats. they check for your documents, too , right.... ???? If we have a border in place and they cross it without legal papers they they should be targeted, because if they flew in and crossed security check at the airport point they would be targeted as well.. Anyone would (doesn't matter what race you are) be questioned and asked to see documents. The Federal govt is being lacadazical. The president and govt. does not listen to what the people want. If so there would be changes, by the way wasn't what te Obama administration was about. Don't get me wrong I like the pres, but I am starting to doubt his whole change campaign. The US is hurting finacially and emotionally. We (the US) cannot fix everything.. We need a rest from needless spending and get back to restructuring our wounded country.

Okay, down to the basics....Are people breaking the law? Yes. Should something be done about it? Yes. Thanks to a State the issue had been brought to a head. We can talk about it till we are blue in the face. I just hope as a single 30 yr old mother of a beautiful 7 yr old girl that has never once had to be on welfare or get food stamps or WIC that this issue is resolved peacefully and without a lot of heartache. The children of the U.S and Mexico are the ones that are suffering.

I have heard all sides of this and my stance is still this....In a position of importance, if you aren't making people mad at you then you aren't doing your job!
Law breakers will eventually get caught....Just how long it takes is the key.
I still think the U.S. should turn it's attention to the reason why we are harboring illegals..maybe they need help in their country. I'm from TX and think we should help out our neighbors if they need our help.

@Pauly You are arguing semantics now. Mexicans also weren't Mexicans until the Spanish conquistadors raped and pillaged their communities. Reform the US needs – it simply adopts that of Mexico

    1. If you migrate to this county, you must speak the native language

    2. You have to be a professional or an investor. No unskilled workers
    allowed.

    3. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools, no
special ballots for elections, all government business will be
    conducted in our language.

    4. Foreigners will NOT have the right to vote no matter how long they
    are here.

5 Foreigners will NEVER be able to hold political office.

    6. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no
food stamps, no health care, or other government assistance programs.

    7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount
equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.

    8. If foreigners do come and want to buy land that will be okay, BUT
options will be restricted. You are not allowed waterfront property.
That is reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

    9. Foreigners may not protest; no demonstrations, no waving a foreign flag, no political organizing, no badmouthing our president or his policies, if you do you will be sent home.

    10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be hunted down
    and sent straight to jail.

Harsh, you say? The above laws belong to the immigration laws of
    MEXICO!

I know when I had to register my children for kindergarten, I had to produce a birth certificate, social security number and complete immunization records. And, how do they get jobs here? I've had to produce two forms of identification just to get a job here and I'm a born American. I'm tired of these CNN sob stories. Good Morning,

I want to know how does "illegal immigrants" have right's in the US. does that mean that as soon as you touch american soil you automatically have rights? I thought in order to have rights in this country, you have to register as a US citizen or already be a US citizen, pay taxes, pay for healthcare, have or apply for a job, obtain your voting rights. As I see it in the state where I am from on the East Coast you have several of them loittering at convienient stores detracting from daily businesses. Which by the why NO loittering signs are posted and they still hang there. Our housing structure in the US is out of control because so many of the "illegals" are obtaining false social security cards and using alias's to purchase new cars, houses. The US allows "illegals to starts a business without being licensed. It pay alot for business insurance to carry commercial auto, gen liability insurance, being bonded in the state, carry a home occupancy permit to run a business from our home, reistering with the state DPOR, and carry a contractor's license. I know this because I get calls to fix what they so called slapped to gether because they don't have a clue of what professionalism is. I know some of them out there do try to do the right thing by registering to be a US citizem, but you have the majority of them that are doing busisiness with out this process and I cannot afford Health Care. I am lucky that I get by with dental. Anyway, it angers me that they get immediate assistance as soon as they come into the states and have kids immediately so that their children can be US citizen within a year and by the way they already have more than they can afford, and as long as the parents are undocumented its ok, they dont have to pay taxes or anything, live off of the state as long as they want to. I know US citizens are getting tired of seeing to many families living in the same house. Anyway if they were here doing the right thing by registering instead of not being registered, then they should not feel like they are being targeted by posessing citizen papers. right?

Very confusing take on the segment showing illegal immigrants fleeing Arizona. Are we supposed to feel sorry for them because they have uprooted their lives to avoid capture? They already left their real homes when they sneaked into America.

Pauly – if I am suspected of doing something illegal, I will be asked for my ID. The influx of illegal immigrants has forced the need for legal immigrants to carry ID, so they will not be detained. If there are people that look like me committing crimes in my neighborhood, I would hope the police are stopping people that look like me to catch them, and I will have my ID ready.

@purplepolitics, I have news for you. Every single county in the world AND history is a form of "socialism". The question is, is what kind? If there are laws governing 'behavior' (of which I'm glad) then there IS socialism. We all need to look at the 'big picture' here with an acute understanding of the past history and details. Could America become a 'facist corporate state'? With the economic situation the way it is, it indeed can! It all starts with 'labeling'. Beware, we are almost there.

If our Gov. would step up to the plate, states would not have to do what AZ did. The illegal immigration is weakening our country, soon we will have a 3rd world status, it sickens me! My gov. at this time sickens me. Doesn't anyone have the Ba–s to protect our country?
Surely our laws should be enforced. You break a law and see what happens to you.

@Turley Our nation is a melting pot this is true, but how is protecting our borders from illegal immigrants any different than any other country. We are the only country that could imagine letting millions of illegals in and its a shame. There are far worse punishments than being deported in any other countries if you are caught as an illegal citizen. Also, the "illegals" that you speak of that came many years ago paid taxes didn't they?

It makes me mad that there are 8 MILLION ALIENS in the US. If Obama wants to get us out of the mess we are in KICK THEM OUT!!! What do you think they are going to do when we are out of money and go into a depression? They will go back to Mexico!

The Obama Administration constantly brings up the Constitution. The Constitution charges the Executive Branch with enforcing the Federal Laws. Obama says "I won't enforce Immigration Laws and you can't either Arizona!", even though every pole shows that the people want him to enforce the laws already on the books. When did our nation become "Me the President" instead of "We the People"?

Shame Shame on you if the feds would do the job at hand there would be no discussion.......... I am a supporter of our President but not on this one!!!!!! He should be ashamed of his actions T he LAW is the law and the feds are not up holding it respondsablity and that is just wrong, we have the right way to come in this country and if they cant or wont do it the right way they need dealt with and it is so open that the feds are not going to do what they are supposed to do. Unempoyment is high here in the states and many employers will hire illegals to work for them and pay a non- living wage and get away with it I say arrest them along with the illegals and then maybe they would pay a living wage and all the jobs would be done by legals and our own americans. But right now i am so sick of the law being broke and the Fed gov. will not enforce them. but let someone get caught with pot and see how fast they put you in jail...... President Obama for the frist time i am ashamed of you and your people there with you, I think you need new advisors and get rid of the ones you have because they are leading you in the wrong way and it is really starting to show once again shame shame shame on out fed gov.....................

Why is your show glorifying "Oscar" for doing the right thing? He is illegal. He shouldn't have gone to high school here, and for sure, he should pay back full tuition to Arizona State if/when he obtains a legal visa/work permit to this country.

    July 29, 2010 at 7:36 am |

At Pauly: Like everyone has said if they are not legal they shouldn't get the same rights we do. If they were born here they will either have a birth certificate, social, drivers license, or some form of i.d that they are a citizen. If they cant prove that yes they need to be taken into custody. We have to have a license to prove our self and if we don't we can get a ticket. We get penalized. I think they should be deported. The way the economy is going even if someone was to take a job no one else wants to do they cant because the illegal aliens are here working so it puts a citizen who has the right t work here out of a job. They work for close to nothing so they get hired instead of an AMERICAN

@Ronny, I'm not. Its the 'undertones' from other peoples point of view that the law implies. This kind of law is the beginning of where 'things' can go. Note, specifically what was 'blocked' by the judge. Note also The Tea Party controversy regarding the 'race stuff. The GOP apparently joined up with the Tea Party or vice-versa. What about the Mark Williams comment regarding "purging" the moderate republicans from the GOP. Who's gung-ho all for absolutely FOR the Arizona Law? Answer, the Tea Party and now the right-wing conservatives. I could go on and on. Get it?

Anyone who breaks a law should be held accountable for their actions. Is that not the point? If we protect law breakers what is next? Why not open the borders and allow all the people who want the American dream to come in and take it from the Americans. I do not understand why people insist in believing that we should protect people who are breaking the law. If I try to go live in another country illegally I would expect to pay for my actions when they find out i am breaking the law. Don't get caught by breaking the law in the first place. The parents of these children should be ashamed of them selves by putting their children at risk while thinking they are "doing the right thing" by breaking the law in the first place.

Maybe we should send troops to Mexico and help them out with their problems then maybe they wouldn't have to run for protection in the U.S.

Once again SOMEONE is spewing garbage... most of the protesters are ILLEGAL ALIENS.

Wake up to the real world. Police can and often do stop and question anybody at any time they want to. Happens everyday in America. I've been stopped and questioned at times.. for being white in a certain neighborhood – several times.

Notice how some fail to answer the question why is it legal that American citizens are required to carry ID at all times but to require the same of people that might be in the country illegal wrong. How does that work out again?

I do not understand why the illegal aliens would not just simply go and apply for citizenship. Especially some of those that CNN has covered in the past couple of months that have been living here for years already. Their story is being covered as "pity us" but they should just go and apply for their citizenship if they want to stay in the U.S. Mexico has strict laws, U.S. is not in the wrong about this.

I am happy that at least parts of the Arizona law have been stopped. Six generations ago on both sides of my family immigrants from England and Ireland landed on the shores of this great country, and yes they did so on their own, with no "papers", or even legal status. Hundreds of thousands of us "white" people are descended from many from Europe that had no "legal status" when they got here. I would lay odds that a lot of those crying about illegal immigrants coming to the US today, are themselves descendants of illegal aliens. Sure, we need boader security, but only for the reason of keeping terrorists out of the country. We were created as a nation of immigrants and should allow everyone who wants to dome here to do so. At least then we would have some people with a real work ethic, instead of the lazy American wworkforce that seems to think they are entitled to oney just becdause they show up for work, not that they do their jobs well.

@Pauly I am going to ask one simple question. Those constitutional rights that you so cleverly refer to who exactly are they intended for? That's right LEGAL American citizens. The same constitutional rights that we have as Americans don't apply to illegal immigrants. What is this probable cause issue your talking about. Isn't it enough probable cause that the ILLEGAL immigrants have come here ILLEGALLY. They have already broken the law haven't they?

I don't get why we have border patrol if they are letting the illegal aliens stay here. They should have to keep documentation. They can easily put it in there car or wallet or even a purse. They are in our country that some of our husbands and sons fight for. They aren't fighting for them to come into our country and take jobs. They want to do something to help the economy. Let us have our jobs. Let the police ask for there papers and deport them if they aren't suppose to be here!!! If they want the right to be here then they need to become a citizen.

i have worked in the medical field where many LEGAL immigrants have worked for years. Like the rest of us on the job, most of them are hard dedicated workers. But, since it is difficult for me to get jobs outside the USA, i often wondered:
Is it our educational system that no longer makes us ready for the working environment or that employers would rather pay lower wages and illegals are willing to take any risk to earn a living in order to stay in USA than go back to their home country?

Perhaps our president should enforce our laws instead of apprearing on TV chat shows. Does his uncaring attitude toward law enforcement mean the legal population in this country can break whatever laws they want or only the illegals get to do that?

    July 29, 2010 at 7:14 am |
  85. Pauly

First of all, most of the protesters are American citizens, not illegal aliens. There's nothing more American than protesting. Especially protesting a proposed law that is unconstitutional.

Secondly, and more importantly, is that the proposed law decreases the threshhold of probable cause to reasonable suspicion. Not just for immigrants but for Americans that were born in this country. You can't even stop, question, interrogate and/or detain a suspected murderer in this country w/o probable cause.

I heard one AZ lawmaker say it's the same as laws already on the books where people are arrested & then the facts are figured out. That's a serious problem & goes against the most protected right in this country, liberty! More than reasonable suspicion has always been required to deprive any American of their liberty. Under the proposed law, if anyone of Hispanic descent is reasonably suspected of being in this country illegally, the police would have the right to detain them.

What if the person doesn't have immigration papers or a green card because he was born in this country but the cops have a reasonable suspicion that he was born in Mexico or they have reasonable suspicion that the id isn't genuine? There are Americans that argue states don't have the right to require driver's licenses, gun permits, etc. Lucky for them, they are white & wouldn't be affected by this new law.

When I get pulled over for speeding, I get my driver's license out to give to the officer. I broke the law, and it's my identification. Everyone legally in America shouldl have identification. Why are you not discussing the death of an officer during a Phoenix drug bust? Do the lives of American police mean so little?

@tom Why would I imagine myself back in Germany. We are not a socialist country my friend. The idea that you think this law would be like Germany in the 1930's is ludicrous. Why is it that these illegal immigrants can forgo the proper immigration process like immigrants from Africa or immigrants from Asia. There is a right way to do things and jumping the border to live in this country illegally is not one them. Are you telling me that these illegal immigrants that are coming are justified and therefore shouldn't be deported? The idea is to keep the illegals out not to force those who do have proper paperwork out, They went through the process as should everyone else to come into this country LEGALLY!!

This new law can only do nothing but good for all the law abiding citizens of America. During the report it was stated that the median income for illegal workers was 36,000 per year.. the sad part about that is that is 36k that a law abiding , tax paying citizen could earn. Not only are these people illegal but they are also a burden to our society either with medical or food assistance. I work for a county jail and on a daily basis i deal with illegals. they have no problem carrying a food assistance card and also have a medical card as well.. the bottom line is this.. if you or I decide to illegally enter Mexico. I use Mexico as an example because the majority of the illegals that are here are from there. if you or i decide to apply to live in mexico they have strict guidelines to migrate south of the border. come on america wake up;..they are breaking the law...

It's pretty clear to me, based on my own personal experience while traveling the country after discharge from the military, that employers in the border states are a huge part of the problem within the illegal immigration equation. From La. to Ca. there were a whole host of employers which were hiring employees to work for "under the table" wages. They even had the chutzpah to advertise their "employment opportunities" in the newspapers. A person gets the "bad news" when they apply for the job.

This still has to be going on down there, and in other states along the northern border to have 11-12 million "illegals" in this country. Why aren't the state governments looking into this? Which is the greater of the two evils- A man or woman who takes the risk of working one of these jobs (believe me, you do not want to get injured while in their employ), or the employer who continues to provide the "opportunity," and as a result isn't paying his or her fair share in wages, or taxes?

Tom why do you compare the Arizona law to Nazi Germany concerning illegal aliens but fail to include American citizens that are required to carry their ID at all time. The issue that bothers me the most is that The Federal Government is "upset" that someone else is "doing their job" i would be happy if someone took some of the work load an didn't have to be held by the hand. (Baby-proofing America) Go Arizona! It only takes action to get results and if this is what it takes to open some eyes.

If i break the law do i not suffer by paying a fine or getting jail time for doing so. Proud to be an American protected by the same laws that protect law breakers!

Maybe the police should not be able to check for warrants which is checking my legal status...just a thought...I don't want them taking me to jail because they can check my "legal status" Hey at least that is just jail not deportation!

Hope everyone has a great and productive Day!

@purplepolitics; What's the big deal? In order to get a good answer to this question, imagine yourself being back in time say 1935 in a country called Germany. Furthermore, you are Jewish, Gypsy, Political Disident, or other. Other than that, you break no other laws. In other words, you and your family are of good character and conduct. The Gestapo man comes up to you and says: "Papers Please"

Rick Sanchez has a recent interview with a border guard person in Arizona. I suggest Amfix play it this hour to help answer your comment. This American National Socialist is anxious to get started.

I am so tired of the sympathy being shown to the enormous amount of illegal immigrants living in this country. For those who are fleeing AZ and moving to the other states will have a rude awakening when those states enact the same law as AZ. It's a sad day when we have judges protecting illegals when they have no rights. They are/have broken the law if they're here illegally! What don't people get about that, watch the continuous video CNN shows of them jumping the fence. Try that going to another country and see what happens to you..................

Illegal aliens leaving Arizona is a good thing for Arizona but back for other states... it just means the illegals other states will be flooded more with illegals.

    Just why is CNN anti-American?

How is checking the "legal status" of a person any different from "checking for warrants?" In a way it is basically the same thing. Which is checking the legal status of a person who is in question of breaking a "law." When an officer asks for my "papers" (In Example My License) am i not legally bound to turn over the information asked for? Which is checking my "legal status."Whether walking down the street or driving in a car i am required by law to turn over that information as a citizen of the U.S. When an illegal immigrant is asked for proof of documentation and does not have it should not be protected by the same laws as a U.S citizen.

    Good Morning CNN!

Two points I'd like to make ...

I find it highly offensive that there are people in the US illegally are out in the streets protesting anything American. Allowing criminals to protest laws concerning criminals is outrageous and insane.

Does striking down a law requiring people to carry their papers at all mean that the American citizens that are required by law to carry ID at all don't have to any more? If I don't have my ID on me at all times I'd get penaltized for it – why do illegal aliens have more rights than an American citizen does in his own country?

It's extremely sad that there are some Americans that believe the US can take in unlimited number of people from around the world – without having any affect on the American public. It's the same as over loading a life boat. It's putting everybody at risk. End results... everybody drowns.

I don't understand what the big deal about this new law is. The fact that legal residents would be required to carry their immigration papers is not that big of deal. It would be just like carrying a driver's license. Also, why would it be a bad thing for police officers to ask for documentation. If the person has legal documentation than he/she has nothing to worry about. Right?
