Sanjaya from 'Idol' defends Bristol Palin, 'DWTS' voting

Remember Sanjaya Malakar from "American Idol"?

He was that season six finalist who advanced all the way to seventh place with the public’s vote, despite having a singing voice poorly received by the show’s judges. Sanjaya gained popularity from the website Vote for the Worst, which encouraged Idol viewers to vote for the worst singer as a diversion from the competition.

So, is Bristol Palin like a "Dancing With the Stars" Sanjaya? She has not been the judges’ favorite, yet is a finalist in tonight’s finale. Some fans and bloggers question viewers’ voting intentions and are asking if the reason she’s a finalist is due to her dancing abilities or her mother’s politics.

Today on American Morning, we ask Sanjaya about the Bristol controversy and his thoughts on how audience vote-in shows are tallied.

I think a lot of people forgot what DWTS is all about. It's not about who is the BEST dancer. The title is for America's FAVORITE Dancer. All this noise about conspiracies and such is nonsense. What it does is boost the ratings for the show. No one ever names a particular person.. the "news" says "They" but not who. These shows will start any rumors to get higher ratings. We need to stop buying into all this stuff and just enjoy the show for what it is.

People are complaining because Bristol is still in the competition. But last season, people were complaining that the Pussycat Doll won since she is already a dancer.
Bristol had no experience AT ALL.

So, who should win this competition ? Someone with lots of experience or someone with no experience who has been taught well ?

I stopped watching Idol due to him and havent watched DWTS since Audrina was booted and Bristol stayed. The voting should be one vote per phone number, not allowing a group of people to keep dialing until they drop. That way the votes will be accurate.

I don't think Sanjaya was so much defending Bristol as saying that's the way it is on these shows, people vote not just based on technical ability but based on a whole range of factors, such as popularity, and yes, politics. That's the whole reason they put Bristol on the show in the first place. The more controversy, the better the producers of the show like it because it generates ratings.

Of course the Palin worshipers are rigging the vote. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

I really hope Bristol doesn't win tomarrow night because I wouldn't want liberals shooting anymore TV's and holding their spouses hostage for saying they are acting irrational.

Sanjaya's voting was spurred on by a webiste called vote for the worst. It was designed to keep the person voted the worst singer on the show. So Sanjaya had a lot of artificial internet generated votes by people not watching the show supporting him just as Bristol.
