Weigh in on Arnold and Maria

In the wake of the revelation that Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child with a member of his family's household staff, his wife Maria Shriver issued the following statement:

"This is a painful and heartbreaking time. As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment."

Shriver attended the taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show's farewell episode Tuesday.

What do you think of the way Arnold and Maria have publicly handled the situation?

American Morning is asking you to weigh in on our Question of the Day. Kiran Chetry and Christine Romans could read your responses on air.

APPARENTLY SCHWARZENEGGER PAID ALOT OF MONEY TO KEEP THIS QUIET. CNN SHOWED HIS MISTRESS'S HOME....REALLY....HER SALARY COULD AFFORD HER SUCH LUXURY?! WHY ISN'T ANYONE SPEAKING "AUDIT"? PERHAPS NOW WE KNOW WHY CA IS BANKRUPT!!

What is interesting to me is that in 2011, sexual profiling is so prevalent. It appears the majority feels that the woman is ALWAYS the victim. How is that ALWAYS the case? Does the American public NEVER consider other plausibilities, or do we always blindly follow the opinions of the media?

Schwartzenegger didn't make a mistake and for anyone to say this was a mistake doesn't realize that a mistake is something done unintentionally; Armold knew exactly what he was doing and his affair was intentional. How he thought he could get away with this and maybe even hold his marriage in place might be mind boggling, but when when you think about it, powerful wealthy men often feel untouchable and the rules that apply to everyone else seldom apply to them.

As sad and painful as this situation may be, we must stop being hypocrites, trying to pretend we are so much better than celebrities. The only reason we may get away with stuff like that is because we are not as exposed as they are. Yes, Arnold did something terribly wrong to his family, but can we honestly look in the mirror and have our consciences completely free of guilt? Think not.

Arnold came forward to acknowledge his affair and this "love child" only because he must have had a clue the media was coming out with this, so he wanted to get ahead of the story and try to soothe public reaction. The fact that he referred to the his son with a staff member as a "love child" though only made matters worse for him and deepened Maria Shriver's wound. A love child implies that he's in love with the woman he had that baby with. That must have really hurt Shriver more than just knowing the other woman was pregnant at the same time Shriver was.

Publically better than most. But, after learning that the love child is 14 years old, that was really a long time ago. The family should not end. Heal yes, but nothing hurts longer than a breakup. Been there, done that.

Yeah.. Arnold MADE this female pregnant and she had nothing to do with it. What a strange way to look at things.

The comments that Maria Shriver must have had super-telepathic powers to know about her husband's activities indicate the inability of some people to comprehend the concept of trust, betrayal and destruction of confidence in oneself to competently evaluate people. Ask anyone who has performed due diligence, background checks, and personal reference checks. There are still loopholes for the destructive people to slip through. Trust is the bedrock of any relationship; automatic trust is naive in every situation. That's why I taught my children to evaluate people's behaviors and not what is said.

Men should get a big stomach when they cause a pregnancy!!! This way they would think twice before they engage in this activity. There should be an app that can be triggered when you engage in this activity and make another person pregnant. After all God knows that you did it, why not the rest of the world.

I think Schwarzenegger made a mistake. There are more than just his and Shriver's children involved. Just as with the the alleged victim of assault by the French IMF chief, there is a boy who has to see and hear about this story everywhere. It's difficult enough growing up–this boy did not choose to be a subject of a scandal. For the sake of this innocent young man, perhaps news agencies should drop the coverage. Forget about a juicy story–leaving this family in peace is the right thing to do.

Should we not celebrate life? Maria wants to protect her children, is the child born to Arnold not count?

I think this is a bigger secret than Tiger Woods', and we saw how Tiger's wife took off and we haven't heard from her since. But a 14-year old child with you and your wife's housekeeper? C'mon, keep that detail to yourselves. It's nasty to be gloating the way Arnold is about something so serious.

I think she has known this for 10 years! Political wives Like Maria choose to stay because of all the "PERKS" that go along with being a public figure. Once she is not in the public eye...People will forget all about her.

The whole world now knows, Arnold screwed up his family just as badly as he did the state of CA. He proved not only can he not act, he can't govern, and can't raise a proper family. Can we drop it and find some more important and pertinent news to broadcast?
