What would you REALLY do if you found a bag of money?

A Utah man moved into a house and found $40,000 in cash stashed in the attic. The man didn't keep the money for himself but instead returned it to the rightful owners.

Our Question of the Day: What would you REALLY do if you found a bag of money?

Let us know what you think. Kiran Chetry and Ali Velshi could read your response on American Morning.

These people who returned the money to their rightful owners can sleep with a good conscience at night because they did the right thing. Sometimes you just know in your heart what you must do.

Seeing it on the news, I would like to think that I would do the right thing and track down the rightful owners, but with the cash in front of me, I wonder if I would start thinking about my own interests? Probably not an easy decision for anybody.

The guy did the right thing in giving the money to the previous owners kids. Imaging how long it took the person to save $40,000 in cash. I would not want that spirit to come back and haunt me for that.

The right answer is to keep it, because the house is now yours and everything that came along with it.
But, if I knew the house was owned by a senior person, more likely to contact them. But, if there was more owner's chances are I would keep it.

If I knew the previous homeowner was an elderly person I would definitely return the money to his/her family. I the money was found on the street in an envelope that would be a different scenerio completely.

I would give it to the Red Cross–Alabama has been ravaged by tornados. Their is a lot of need here and in the Missip Valley. The ones that want to keep it are a bunch of BUTTHEADS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would do just as the Father did. It is very important to all of us to see such examples of pure honesty.

(I would not say anything about the other $960,000 though!)

If I found $100,000 in the attic, I'd say I only found $40,000 and give it back to the original owners. Then I'd make sure the media got out there to cover my good Samaritan story. Who knows? That might work out in my favor too 🙂

At first I would probably want to spend it all, but after the initial excitement and my conscience kicking in I would probably wait and see if anyone came looking for the money. But, If no one comes looking, I would probably just use it to pay of some debt and save for a rainy day.

5% to charity and bank the rest. I would never broadcast it. Doing so could attract bad attention.

Perhaps I would pull a Schwarzenegger and wait ten years, then tell my wife that I spent it all 🙂

Actually, If I just moved in, I would wait a while to see if anyone claims it. But after a while I would keep it.

I will reported, because you'll never know if it can get you in a big problem at the long run. It could be stolen money from a gangster. I live better with a clear conciense.

  33. Poor College Student.

I would use it to pay back the huge amount of student loans I have acquired over these year since the chance of finding a job for a college student right now is about as good as Dominique Strauss-Kahn getting his job at the IMF back. My current plan to deal with my student loan debt involves fleeing Libya and fighting for Gadaffi. Say what you want about warlords and dictators, but they always pay their bills on time.
