Talk Back: Is President Obama neglecting the black community?

Despite the fact that the unemployment rate for African-Americans has risen to 15.9 percent since the president took office,  Obama has not attended any of the job fairs organized for the black community by the Congressional Black Caucus.

President Obama also neglected to visit any majority black communities during his his three-day bus tour through the Midwest this week.

In light of this, Representative Maxine Waters spoke out yesterday, saying that unhappiness with the president is rising among African Americans who want him to stand up to Republicans and fight for the poor and unemployed.

Talk Back: Is President Obama neglecting the black community?

Let us know what you think. Your answer may be read on this morning's broadcast.

Yes he is neglecting the Black Community, he also has neglected the Hispanic community. He promises change, immigration reform, jobs, and failed us all! I voted for Obama believing in his promises and transparency, I have come to realize he is great at speechs but fails at leadership! I am voting for real change in 2012. Voting for his removal as presendent.

If you completely blame the President for all that is going on, I think you need to re-think you life. Blame the Congressman that "are on vacation" for not being in Washington taking care of the people of America. There is nothing more important these days than getting our folks back to work and getting the economy going. Congress is the blame, not the President. He doesn't make the laws....Let him have some peace on his vacation. CNN isn't bugging all the Congressmen? Why?

Someone need to tell Maxine Water to stop it. Now she is playing the victim in the madness of re-election. Very simply, President can't be everywhere at once. 3 days in middle America does not a snub make. Everybody need to grow up!

I would hope so, he's the American President, not the Black President. I hope he's looking at the big picture of what's good for all Americans

All of Washington DC (including CNN) ignores the black community when they step over homeless people every day on the street. At least San Francisco has put up public toilets for the homeless. In DC the homeless must either soil themselves or risk arrest. The conditions at DC Central Lockup are so horrendous that anyone would choose to lie in their own filth rather than be taken there.

I think it's very ironic that the so called "TEA PARTY" didn't exist until Obama came into office. It seems like every since the tea party was created, president Obama has had the hardest time in the white house. It's not about him neglecting anyone of any color, he's trying to do what is best for all American's but the tea party has been killing him on every thing that he wants to do to help Americans. It seems like the tea party and most other people in the office really don't like the fact that they have an African American in the office who is really trying to help us.

Yes, President Obama have totally neglected the black community, he don't want any association with the African American (native) people. You have to wonder what is he afraid of ? If it wasn't for 80 to 100% of the black community voting for him he would not have received the overwhelm vote of the Latin and Caucasian people, all the blame is not on Obama. If my spouse was the president of the United States, there is no-way I would allow him to get away, without doing something for my people knowing how they continue to suffer here in America, and not as long as I have a black-mother and a black-father. There would be no-way hosei, Mr. President don't you get it twisted.

A stupid question deserves an equally stupid response. Did President Bush, a white man, neglect the white community?

With Wall street burning, our President goes on a "working" vacation. So, shouldn't the question be:

Is President Obama neglecting the Country? My answer would be a resounding YES

I think the President should be more aggressive in his tactics, he has been ridiculed since day one. As far as the black community I think he should be just as aggressive to keep our vote. We are jjust as jobless, homeless, and discouraged with the American Gov't. as the next man or woman. The news caster said he pretty much has our vote, the question is does he want to keep our vote.

While I realize the challenges faced in our country are weighted towards minority communities, we also must recognize that Obama is the President of the ENTIRE country, not just one segment. Additionally, as the U.S. President, his responsibilities extend to the entire world. There are too many people on all sides of the political spectrum who expect that ALL of the world's ills should be solved by one person. That's just not realistic.

I'm a white voter who voted for obama but he is neglecting them. However, Obama knows one thing, black voters WILL vote for him in the end-they're not voting Hermain Cain(that is if he wins the GOP nomination). 90 percent of blacksvote democatic.

How dare you ask that question. The president will always have the best interest of Black America first and foremost in his mind, and we are not the problem. Black America will always support the president. White Americans, on the other hand, would rather eat out of a trashcan and vote Republican then recognize which party has there best interest at heart. So no Obama is not neglecting the black community, he is speaking to those who need to hear it. A rising tide helps all ships!

How about if the Congresswoman that spoke out against him steps up and takes the lead on helping the urban poor. Not everything should fall on President Obama, and maybe it's time us Americans stop waiting for others to do, and we start doing for ourselves.

When I voted for him, then Senator Obama touted both his black and white heritage. Since his election he has almost exclusively referred to himself as black. I suppose he has done a race flop and since he figures he has the black vote sewn up, it's time for him to be white again to try and garner my vote. If he wins reelection, he can turn black again and brag about getting the most important job in the world for a black man.
