Four NYPD officers talk about responding to helicopter crashes in NYC's East River

A helicopter carrying five people on a private tour for a birthday celebration crashed into New York City's East River on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after takeoff from a riverbank heliport. One passenger was killed, and three others were injured.

Lt. Lawrence Serras of the New York Police Department happened to be nearby when the accident happened. His team was conducting a counter-terrorism exercise in the area when they received the call. Serras and his colleagues, Det. Keith Connelly,
Officer Jason Gregory and Detective Kenneth Fehn immediately jumped into the water with flotation devices and were able to help bring three people to shore.

The officers all join Ali Velshi on American Morning to discuss the rescue.
