Talk Back: Should the president bypass Congress to help the economy?

From CNN's Carol Costello:

Since Congress isn't eager to discuss any part of the president's jobs bill, Obama is moving forward on his own and implementing a series of executive actions this week, such as new rules aimed at making it easier for homeowners to refinance.

Arguing that the president is simply using the excuse of political gamesmanship to get around Congress, Republicans say that the home mortgage plan won't solve anything and some economists contend that it won't be enough to solve the housing crisis.

What is clear is that the economy won't be greatly helped unless Congress takes action. Instead of waiting for lawmakers, Obama is going rouge to show Americans that he's doing something and to shame Congress into acting.

Yes, if the congress cannot act due to the fact they are thinking in party terms then the president must do what he must to alleviate the suffering of people.

What do you mean "bypass Congress"? Is he a king, a tyrant? This is not how this country works. Sen. Reid better bring to Senate vote the 13 job-creation bills already passed by the House, and the President then sign them into laws.

I remember the line by Jimmy Stewart in the movie "Shenandoah. " He said, "if ya don't try, then ya don't do, and if ya don't do, then what are we here for?" President Obama should try because Congress is taking the side of "don't do."

Yes, President Obama should circumvent Congress to help the struggling economy. I would rather see him try and fail than just do nothing while waiting for the Senate to act. If the bill fails then Mr McConnell can gloat all he cares to, but, if the other shoe falls...

Yes! I do believe that President Obama should bypass Congress to help the economy. The Repubicans continue to stonewall all his efforts to run the government. Then he is blasted for not doing anything. Congress is not working together with the President, on anything.

Actually, that is what he should have been doing as a "bully pulpit" action already. That would be very Presidential.

Yes, definitely. Congress is doing all it can to block our President and helping this country. They are immature, egotistical hypocrites only trying to capture votes by pointing blame. Shame on them for not standing behind the President and trying their best to help this country resolve its serious issues. I will never vote republican as long as I live because of these actions.

Great job Mr. President! We are behind you!

Certainly, Congress has become so stagnated that no matter who the President was or is – would have to work around them. Hopefully we can remove the non-performing crowd during the next election.

These people wanted president Obama to fail day one of his presidency. He can not seat there for them block him on every single good thing that this man has proposed. He needs to bypass them and do what is good for this country. Good people are watching what they are doing. It does not make any sense this congress.

Yes, whatever the president can do to help our economy is welcomed. When members of congress make statements like Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has stated " Making Obama A One-Term President Is My Single Most Important Political Goal." That means keeping millions out of work to put one man out of a job!!, and his comment that as long as this President is in the White House they cannot negotiate. America will wake up at the polls. The GOP/Tea Party make term limits a reality. When the speaker of the house continues to accuse the president of not sending them anything, apparently they want President Obama to write the bills, debate the bills, sign the bills into law, then why does he need Congress. Congress does not understand the legislative process. Most Americans know this isn't about them, it about defeating President Obama, they don't care one thing about jobs and our economy, remember the debt ceiling blunder. The GOP/Tea Party would rather take this country down than help this Black President.
