Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Dr. Bill Frist team up to fight childhood obesity
With one in three American children obese or overweight, doctors are declaring childhood obesity a national health epidemic. The problem has gotten so severe that for the first time in our country's history, children will live shorter lives than their parents did.
Today on American Morning, Carol Costello talks with New Jersey Mayor Cory Booker and former Senate Majority Leader Dr. Bill Frist to discuss how they're teaming up to fight this urgent problem. If we don't do something to curb the childhood obesity epidemic, "we could face the greatest health challenge in a generation," Booker says.
Sandusky hires private investigator, Fine's wife to make statement today – Paul Callan on legal challenges in each case
Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach accused of sexual abuse, is working with a private investigator in his quest to prove his innocence, his lawyer said Monday. Attorney Joe Amendola said his client, who is free on $100,000 bail, is conducting his own investigation. Sandusky is charged with 40 counts related to the alleged sexual abuse of eight young boys.
At the same time, the wife of former Syracuse basketball coach Bernie Fine plans to make a statement today regarding the validity of a taped conversation she reportedly had with one of her husband's accusers. The taped conversation suggests she knew about Fine's alleged abuse.

Egyptians vote, but concerns remain over democracy progress – Rep. Dreier on monitoring the election
For the second straight day, Egyptians are headed to the polls Tuesday to vote in the country's parliamentary elections. These are the first parliamentary elections held since Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule was brought to an end in February.Â
So far the turnout has been huge. But some Egyptians remained skeptical of whether these elections would actually lead to civilian control of the country.
Today on American Morning, Christine Romans speaks with Republican Congressman David Dreier, who's in Egypt to monitor the election process. As Dreier tells Romans, "this is not a perfect election...but things have gone much better than people have feared."

Heading a ball can be a fun and effective way to score goals in soccer games. But a new study suggests that repeatedly head butting soccer balls can lead to brain damage - even the kind of damage seen in football concussions.

New Herman Cain accuser emerges – Has the Cain train veered too far off course?
An Atlanta businesswoman is accusing GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain of having had an affair with her that lasted nearly 14 years. Â
"I was aware that he was married, and I was also aware that I was involved in a very inappropriate situation - relationship," Ginger White told Atlanta television station WAGA. But in an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN's "The Situation Room" Monday, Cain said he knew White as an acquaintance, but flatly denied that they had an affair.

This morning, we're watching:
* Breaking news this morning: AMR, the parent company of American Airlines, has filed for bankruptcy protection. The decision comes after the airline was unable to secure cost-cutting labor agreements. The airline says it will still honor all tickets and reservations.
* Right now, U.S. markets are on track to extend yesterday's rally. The Dow, Nasdaq and S&P 500 futures are trading higher.
* Markets are up in Europe this morning as investors are optimsitic that leaders will get it together and fix the region's debt problems. This even after an ominous warning out from Moody's. The ratings agency says the current debt crisis is threatening the credit worthiness of every nation in the European Union as well as more than a dozen of the region's largest banks.
* There's new evidence that Washington's inability to reach a debt deal is going to hurt all Americans. The credit rating agency Fitch affirmed America's AAA credit rating but revised its outlook to negative. That change means the agency sees a greater than 50% chance it will downgrade the country's AAA rating within two years.
* Cyber Monday turned out to be more popular than ever this year. Early estimates from IBM show sales were up 18% from a year ago. Another research firm predicts customers spent around $1.2 billion dollars yesterday.
